Spoiled meat.

Admittedly I didn't think it could be a bad idea to order during a heatwave and I should have known better

However, one of the cold packs had ruptured and most of the meat was greenish and foul smelling. I am awaiting their responce. I would give it a miss unfortunately

I've used the DMC for over a year, placing 20 orders. My experience of the customer service and food has been outstanding. Varied and popular cuts of meat, great steaks, best burgers ever! On my experience and taste buds, I cant recommend them highly enough.

I am very very disappointed, I read all the reviews they were excellent, don’t know what went wrong with my order, I ordered 2 fillet steaks and 2 porterhouse steaks, I’ve been cooking steaks for over 40 years, these steaks must be the worst I’ve had,
I will not be buying anymore from the DMC

The quality of the Beef Wellingtons was absolutely superb in flavour and tenderness. The fillet is wrapped in just enough mushroom duxelles and prosciutto crudo (not pancakes as some use). So many others overdo the mushroom which overpowers the meat.
Delivery was exactly on-time, with the Wellingtons well packed and very well insulated.
Highy recommended and we will buy again.

Ordered a family bbq box. Very high quality meat - sausages, burgers and rump steak. Very efficient delivery through DPD . Will use again.

I specifically set out to buy genuinely nitrate and nitrite free bacon. Like many people, I started with a Google search, which listed The Dorset Meat Company alongside other suppliers of nitrate and nitrite free bacon.

The marketing immediately appealed to me. The website talks about "GRASS FED | FREE RANGE | ETHICALLY REARED | SUSTAINABLE FARMING" and says its meat is produced "in harmony with nature" by small family farms, claiming this is better for "the farmer, the animal, the local ecology, and for you" and produces meat "you can trust completely."

As someone looking for food with as few additives as possible, that gave me every reason to believe I had found exactly what I was looking for.

I ordered from The Dorset Meat Company and another artisan supplier whose website gave a very similar impression. Our intention was to cook both products side by side in a live taste test.

That never happened.

Before cooking, I read the ingredients carefully and was genuinely astonished. Despite all the emphasis on traditional curing, sea salt, slow growing pigs, ethical farming and natural production methods, their standard Free Range Smoked Back Bacon contains E250 (sodium nitrite), E251 (sodium nitrate) and E301. When I previously purchased it, even their Pork Belly Confit contained the same curing additives.

After going through the range carefully, I discovered that the only genuinely nitrate and nitrite free bacon they sell is their Free Range Smoked Nitrite and Nitrate Free Back Bacon.

To be fair, this product is exactly what it claims to be. It contains no nitrites, no nitrates and no preservatives, and I give them full credit for producing it.

Unfortunately, it arrives having already been frozen and thawed and is labelled not suitable for refreezing. Unless you intend to eat it immediately, it is of little practical use if, like me, you buy meat online to stock your freezer.

My disappointment is not that The Dorset Meat Company uses nitrites and nitrates in most of its cured meats. Many producers do, and customers can make their own informed choices about that.

My disappointment is that the overall presentation of the website creates a strong impression that these traditional, ethically reared products are somehow different from conventionally cured bacon, when in reality most of the bacon still contains the same curing additives found elsewhere.

After finding another artisan supplier using remarkably similar marketing while selling conventionally cured products, it left me feeling that there is far too much smoke and mirrors in this part of the industry. The emphasis is on traditional methods, natural farming and wholesome language, while the ingredients tell a rather different story.

If you are specifically trying to avoid nitrites and nitrates, don't rely on the marketing. Read every ingredients list carefully. Also be aware that some producers use celery extract or celery powder as a natural source of nitrates while promoting products as "uncured" or "naturally cured". If avoiding nitrites and nitrates is your aim, always check the ingredients rather than relying on the wording on the front of the pack.

The Dorset Meat Company may well produce high quality meat from well cared for animals, and I have no reason to doubt that. However, I came away feeling that the website promises far more than most of the products actually deliver, and as a customer I was left disappointed.

I’ve used this supplier over a number of years and throughout, I’ve found they’re consistent in quality and service. All meat is well butchered and easy to use directly or store in the freezer as it’s vacuum packed. Chicken, pork, beef, sausage…it all tastes as meat should and very different in quality to supermarket offerings. The order process is seamless and in recent weeks, through a very hit spell, my orders have arrived totally chilled throughout. Extra freeze packs have been used to ensure the chill is retained. Very fast from order to delivery. If I order Tuesday evening, it’s with me Thursday. Outstanding value and the customer service is exemplary. I’ve no hesitation in recommending the business ( and I’ve tried a few over the years).

I ordered bbq food (burgers and sausages) to feed a party of fifty for our boy's 1st birthday party. The ordering process was as smooth as I could have hoped, specifying my ideal delivery date was simple and DPD followed instructions to the letter. The food was well packaged and well chilled, and went down a storm, with plenty of enquiries about where I bought it, due to its quality and flavour. My only feedback would be that some of the meat was slightly squashed on arrival, due to its soft packaging, but ultimately it caused us no issue on this occasion (it's not hard to roll a sausage back into shape!). I've ordered from plenty of suppliers that I'd describe as similar to Devon Meat Company, and they have immediately become my favoured choice, and I'd not hesitate to recommend them.

I've placed quite a number of orders with Dorset Meat Company and have been extremely happy with everything. The dry aged steaks in particular are a favourite of mine and are all of the highest quality, cook well and are extremely tender with no gristle. The oak smoked black treacle bacon is fantastic and so flavoursome. No water appears no matter how I cook it. Try the wine, cheeses and butters they have too.

I have thoroughly enjoyed everthing I have had from them. Delivery is great (to Sherborne) and everything is well packaged, protected and packed with ice bags.

I honestly can't recommend them highly enough.

Ordered a selection of blue cheeses for my dad for his birthday. I only discovered afterwards that he received 2 of the same due to supply issues. It would have been nice if someone had contacted me to check what a good substitute would be or as an absolute minimum, send one of the 3 blue cheeses that I hadn't ordered to still give him a variety to try. Disappointing experience and not inclined to reorder based on this experience.

I was gifted by my sons a Father's Day meat hamper from Dorset Meat Company and was particularly looking forward to trying their Black Treacle Bacon, which is described as being hand dry-cured, smoked over oak wood chips and treated with molasses and treacle.
Unfortunately, the bacon supplied did not, in my opinion, resemble either the product description or the promotional images. On opening the pack, I could detect no discernible smoke aroma and no indication of any treacle character. When cooked, the bacon released sufficient liquid to stew rather than fry the rashers and produced a significant amount of white protein foam.
I contacted Dorset Meat Company, who responded promptly and courteously. Rather than accepting a refund, I requested replacement bacon so that I could experience the product as intended. The replacement packs exhibited exactly the same characteristics.
Dorset Meat Company subsequently confirmed that both the original and replacement packs came from the same production batch (CC0402), that the bacon is cured and prepared in-house, and that following review they were satisfied the batch met their normal production standards.
This means that, according to the company, the bacon I received was representative of the product they intended to supply. Whilst I appreciate the professional manner in which my complaint was handled, I personally could detect no smoke flavour, smoke aroma or treacle character in any of the packs supplied. The cooking characteristics were also not what I expected from a product described as traditionally dry-cured.
I have no criticism of the way my complaint was dealt with. My disappointment relates solely to the product itself, which did not, in my opinion, deliver the characteristics suggested by the description and marketing.

I appreciate your confirmation that batch CC0402 was reviewed, found to be representative of the product and met your normal production standards.

That confirmation removes any suggestion that I received an atypical pack. My review therefore relates to the product itself rather than an isolated quality issue. In my opinion, the bacon supplied did not resemble the product shown in the promotional photographs and did not, in my experience, cook, smell or taste anything close to what I expected from the oak-smoked, treacle-cured product described on your website.

Prospective customers can decide for themselves whether the product they receive is likely to reflect the impression created by the description and imagery used to market it.

Pork chops no rind and vacuum packed, black pudding tasteless with no seasoning at all. Bacon tasted off... not a pleasant 1st order experience.

Fantastic, quality meat that is the tenderest, most flavoursome we have ever tasted. All cattle are grassfed and meat sourced from local farmers. Very helpful when you call the company, email received day before confirming delivery. I highly recommend this company as an online butcher

I bought a flat brisket for smoking this week as my normal supplier couldn’t make it on time and although it wasn’t too bad of a piece of brisket they should have stated it that it already came trimmed with no fat left on top of the brisket and very thin towards the lean end. Not a lot of inner marbling either which was a shame. 5/10 I’d give the flat brisket.

Dorset Meat Company has seriously impressed me.

Everything arrived fresh, well packaged, and full of flavour — the corn-fed chicken in particular was excellent. But the real surprise? The nduja relish. Absolute game changer. Rich, spicy, and dangerously good… I’m now putting it on everything.

Already planning my next order — highly recommend!

Would not recommend at all spent £180 on meat then went in the bin was all full of fat and grissel disgusting

We ordered a selection of meats , a reasonably large order , the meat came well packed , however I can honestly say we weren't impressed with any of the goods we ordered , in particular the large steaks we bought were tough and gristly , the chicken was tasteless as was the mince , the rest of the stuff, beef joints , chops , bacon ( dearest bacon I've ever bought) were so so. Needless to say we won't be ordering any more from The Dorset Meat Co,

The quality of the salmon was amazing. Best I have ever had. I can’t wait to try some of the meat next. Customer service was also very good. Super responsive and helpful.

I ordered a leg of lamb on 10th March to secure my delivery in time for Easter. It was due today but got an email saying it would be delayed and would be delivered tomorrow. I have just received a call from the Dorset Meat Co saying my delivery has been cancelled and I will be refunded my £90 which will take 3-5 working days. I now have to spend more money buying a replacement. Disgraceful customer service. One lost customer who spends quite a lot of money there.
