Terrible experience. Brought my dog to be groomed here. Been bringing him and his brother regularly, for the last 3 and half years, between Waterford, Carlow and Kilkenny. Last week brought him to Kilkenny and on arrival the girl asked me what I wanted her to do and I explained that I wanted the body short and the hair and ears a bit longer. She continued to feel my dog’s hair for ‘knots’ and said that his hair was matted. I felt his hair myself and couldn’t feel any matting, only a couple of very small knots (that I’m sure could be brushed through with no much effort) but she said that they wouldn’t do that to a dog so I told her that she could cut them off, which she reluctantly agree and said that as long as I didn’t mind a couple of ‘holes’ on his coat, which I said I didn’t mind as they would be so small. I work from home, so just drop my dog there and hurried back home to keep working on the laptop. Was only in the door, when I got a phone call from pet mania Kilkenny. The sane girl rang me to say that they needed to shave him all off as the hair was matted, badly matted. (My dog got a short groom there 3 months prior.). I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I thought we were after agreeing with what was going to be done and that I was going to collect him in 2 hours time. I have a job to do and really not happy to be messed around like that. I told the girl that I was not going to pay another extra €20 (is expensive enough to pay €70 for standard grooming and they wanted another €20, that would be €90 for small enough dog that wasn’t even matted. I’ve asked to speak with the manager. This young, absolutely clueless guy, came on the phone and said that he as inside with the girls and when they were using the hairdryer they realised the hair was very matted. Absolutely bulshit. He said that if I wasn’t happy to pay the extra €20 and have the dog shaved all over that I could go and collect him. So I said, fine, I’ll collect him. When I got there, the 3 of them were there talking to me and still insisting that my dog was matted. I said that I’ll never set my foot there again and will not bring my two dogs there ever again and will be writing on a bad review. I felt totally gaslighted. Got a number for another groomer, brought my dog there, paid €60, she done exactly what I’ve asked, never even mentioned the condition of my dog’s hair. When I’ve asked her after, she said it was ‘grand’, couple of tiny mats on the legs which she said she was able to brush through with no problem at all.
The last time I bright my other dog to Petmania Kilkenny, the very same thing happened. Myself and my boyfriend were totally gaslighted by this young girl, again saying that my dog was matted and she had to shave him all over, very short (this was middle of winter, dogs get cold). This other dog just has a curlier hair and she kept saying that she couldn’t run the comb through. Funny enough I brought him to Carlow pet mania a few times and they must have some other magic comb that are able to run through his hair. Another €20 extra paid and dog totally shaved, a dog that didn’t even had one knot. Looks like they want to do very little work, just shave the dogs really short, make people pay an extra €20 for a dog that wasn’t even matted. Robbers!

Great products, fast delivery, and helpful, polite staff. I have always had a great experience when buying in-store or online. Recently, my online package arrived incomplete. Some items were missing, and a few unordered items were sent instead. I emailed customer care, and they quickly sent me the missing items plus extra treats as an apology gesture, and organized a pickup for the ones I didn’t order. Always a great experience. I highly recommend Petmania.
