No limpian las habitaciones diariamente
Nos alojamos en el hotel riu costa del sol uno de los días que estuvimos alojados no nos limpiaron las habitaciones. Lo pusimos en conocimiento de recepción, responsable de limpieza y responsable de hotel y al final tuvimos que hacernos las camas. Ni hablar de compensación económica pagamos un servicio que no se recibió. Se disculparon pero ni se realizó el servicio ni obtuvimos compensación.

Awful, overpriced, dirty rooms and unhelpful senior manager and after sales staff . Definitely NOT a 5 or 4 star and they’re only interested in making money off guests by charging ridiculous prices for shocking service . Got bitten and was told to wait in the lobby for over 12 hours , senior management don’t care and after sales or customer service on the phone is pointless

Stayed at tres Islas very old fashioned bleach stains on carpet yes carpet ! Who has carpet these days in any hotel abroad, lamp was all glued together mirror in bathroom hanging off the wall not the best for a 4* I would rate it much lower! Although we paid half board was treated very differently to all inclusive holiday makers ,eg not offered drinks around the pool area etc felt invisible water was charged although you need water to boil in kettle , drink ,brush teeth but charged a lot just for bottled water ! Beach area was the best beach I’ve ever been too just let down with hotel & staff

De havde ikke skiftet sengetøjet, der var meget sand i benenden under lagnet som var redt som om den var nyredt.
Kloak på bad stoppet.
Solsenge meget beskidte. Ikke al mad så friskt ud. Skuffer til tøjet stank, så vi beholdte tøjet i kuffert. Der var små dyr på badeværelset og det virkede noget slidt på gange. Mange turister og solsenge spærret af håndklæder uden de blev brugt. Kaffen er rigtig dårlig. Drinks al for søde og al for stærke. De ansatte søde.
Betalte 52.000kr for 5 personer 1 uge.
Vi hyggede os i vores eget selskab, men vil ikke rejse dertil igen da det ikke indfriede vores længe ventet rejse som skulle føles mere behagelig.

Let’s get straight to it.
Yes, it’s all inclusive.
No, it’s not my type of place.
We were moved here by TUI from the Royalton Negril — a genuinely superior hotel — to the RIU in Ocho Rios. That should have been the first warning. This place is clearly aimed at budget holidays. If you’re after value over quality and enjoy chaos, you might be happy. I wasn’t.
⭐ Star Rating Reality Check
Advertised as 5 star.
Actual experience:
• Aesthetics: 1 star
• Food: 1 star
• Room service: 1 star
• Reception: 1 star
• Facilities: 1 star
Adding five 1-star experiences together does not magically make a 5-star hotel. Maths doesn’t work like that.
🛎️ Check-in & “Quiet Area”
We arrived on 8th December and were put in what was meant to be the quiet area.
For the first two nights, music blasted until 1–2am. We had a 4-year-old with us.
Went to reception to complain:
• Judgmental looks
• Zero help
• “Go see your rep”
• Dismissed like I’d asked for a personal favour, not basic sleep
Customer service at reception was useless.
🍽️ Food – Survival Mode
The food deserves its own warning label.
Honestly, I’ve seen better organisation at a soup kitchen. And for anyone who doesn’t know — that’s where free meals are handed out to the homeless. That’s the level we’re talking about.
• No flavour
• Hardly any Jamaican or Caribbean food
• Mostly basic US and British rubbish
• Restaurants opened “on time” but with empty trays
• About 8 food stations, most empty
Every meal felt like a live Hunger Games event — fighting large, aggressive Americans for the last scrap of chicken. Some of them could eat for ten families and showed zero manners while doing it.
We asked staff if more food was coming.
We got attitude.
Some days we genuinely missed lunch or dinner because there was nothing left. The food court is far too small for the number of guests.
🏊 Pool – Antarctic Edition
The pool was:
• Freezing cold
• Never cleaned once in 14 days
Yes, they dumped chlorine in.
No, that doesn’t remove:
• Dirt
• Glass
• Vegetation
I actually found glass at the bottom of the pool one morning. That was the end of that for my family.
Lifeguards?
Present in body only. Sitting in huts, chilling. A legal tick-box exercise, nothing more.
🍹 Bar Service – Pick & Choose
The bar service was some of the worst I’ve ever experienced.
I felt ignored, undervalued, and genuinely uncomfortable. Staff would happily serve people they liked and completely blank others.
Before anyone jumps to conclusions:
• My wife is Black
• She noticed it too
She’d get served instantly.
I’d be ignored like I didn’t exist.
Orders felt like an inconvenience. The attitude stank. It honestly felt like some staff just didn’t like white guests but tolerated them to pay the bills.
Credit where it’s due:
• Breakfast and lunch waitress ladies were mostly great
• One lady called Rasta was brilliant — kind, warm, amazing with my son, and a real asset to the hotel
Without a handful of decent staff, this place would’ve been unbearable.
🛏️ Room Service & Cleanliness
Room service was… average.
• Only top sheets changed
• Bathroom often not cleaned
• Toilet blocked and nearly overflowed twice
We all started getting bitten when sleeping in the bed.
When we slept on top of the bed with spare sheets — no bites.
Draw your own conclusions.
💸 Missing Money Experiment
I did a test.
Left money hidden under sweets and a receipt.
Went out for lunch.
Came back — money gone.
Several people enter the room (cleaners, drinks staff), so I can’t say who took it. But it happened.
Lesson learned: don’t leave cash in the room.
🛍️ Gift Shop – Customer Service Rock Bottom
The gift shop is massively overpriced, which I expected.
What I didn’t expect was the two young girls working there:
• Zero interest in helping
• Dismissive
• That classic “why are you talking to me” Gen Z look
I asked if they sold a plug adapter.
You’d think I’d interrupted their life plans.
Worst customer service I’ve seen — and that includes the UK.
🚕 Taxis & Excursions – Tourist Tax
Don’t be fooled.
• Taxis charge tourists $35
• Locals pay about $1
Excursions are the same story.
Example:
• Day trip quoted at £450 by one woman
• Went back later
• Different woman, same trip — £300
The first one was “temp cover”. Funny that.
Everyone involved in transport and excursions is out to rinse tourists. Be sharp.
❌ Final Verdict
Would I recommend this resort?
Absolutely not.
At best, this is a 3-star hotel pretending to be a 5-star.
Poor food, rude staff, dirty facilities, weak service, and zero value for money.
Jamaica itself is beautiful.
This hotel does it no favours.
As a customer you’re just a number
As a customer you’re just a number. Buffet made me sick and management could’ve cared less. Riu ownership is European. They have an F rating for BBB in the US. Skip it. This chain of hotels needs to go bankrupt.
Nie wieder RIU nach vielen Jahren
RIU macht die Fehler und wir werden durch RIU Class eiskalt dafür abgestraft, obwohl wir alles durch RIU Rechnungen lückenlos belegen konnten.
Jetzt werden wir nach fast 30 Jahren RIU nie wieder diese Hotelkette buchen.
Wie sagt man, nach dem Hochmut kommt der Fall !!!!

Matige ligbedden
Prima vakantie in RIU OASE in Maspalomas.
Prachtige tuin en 3 zwembaden en nog een spec zwembad voor de kleine kinderen. De ligbedden zijn een 5 * hotel onwaardig Veel te hard en zonder oplegmatrasje of kussen. Erg attent personeel en een zeer uitgebreide keuken. Voor elk wat wils.

We booked our once a year holiday at the riu cape verde hotel 5 star! pushing to be a 3 star at best poor basic rooms plain cocktail drinks no trimings holes in towels & no chance of getting a sun lounger by the pool all reserved by 7am

4eme séjour dans des hotels différents. Top karamboa cap vert et tres bien tikida beach Agadir.
Riu joue sur les jardins magnifiques et les piscines.
Au tikida dunas, tout est sale des restaurants en passant par les chambres vétustes.
Pas d animation, ils se planquent derrière leur jogging rouge.
Pas de spectacle, de la musique à la réception.
Au Founty Bar heu … la récréation
La nourriture une honte: tomates concombres choux oignons. Pâtes bolognaise, gratin dauphinois, paella ! Que du riz on est en Espagne ? Kebab que l os , pauvre serveuse à 20h15 apres on remballe.
Pizza surgelée bref une honte . 2 jours sans viande ni poissons et de la dinde à volonté en sauce. Cherchez les morceaux …
Piscine intérieur une honte : poussettes, baskets, au bord du bassin et personne pour surveiller. Bref a fuir

RIU hotels in cape Verde should be all demolished there filthy falling apart and there's a huge issue with the food and water food isn't stored or transported hygienically it's preparation and cooking leaves alot to be desired they are currently being taken to court along with TUI.where.upon 2000 plus claims have been made for food poisoning shigella ecoli gastro complaints and refuse to accept that they are the real problem here this has been going on for years and the companies act that act against UK law and with impunity

Horrendous
Hi,
we are unfortunately very disappointed with the standard of Riu Republica notably the front desk Marially the supposed “manager”.
Yesterday, when we got in our room there was a water leak and sand in our bed. We were then promised to get a room with pool view the next day (today). At noon, I went to the front desk to ask about the room change I was told to come at 3 pm. At 3:05 pm we went to the front desk and we were told our room is not available anymore as it was given to someone else. Apparently we were supposed to arrive at 2 pm. According to the “manager”.
The manager was speaking Spanish with her colleagues saying that we are annoying her, and that we are liars. Unfortunately my partner speaks Spanish and could understand. I then explained again calmly the issues we faced and what we were promised as well as the first passage at noon to change the room and the information received to come at 3pm.
She finally gave another room Saying there also is a pool View.
The view if of a roof.
Riu Costa del sol.
Just returned from our second visit this year and once again the service and welcome we received were above and beyond. Food excellent, Housekeeping first class and all staff very welcoming and polite.

RIU Touareg Cape Verde disgusting
Recently returned from Riu Touareg Cape Verde. This hotel is marketed as a 5 star but most definitely isn't of 5 star quality. The rooms are tired, dated and dirty. We refused 3 rooms because they were filthy, dead insects everywhere, curtains hanging off rails, dirty bedding. The room we ended up with had problems with air con breaking down, safe not working with our passports and valuables stuck inside it. Light fitting in bathroom ceiling dropped down. Something happened ever day. It was laughable. As Riu have a reputation for good hotels, I complained to them direct, to make them aware of the issues. The response was shocking They just said, you booked with TUI so your contract is with them not us!! Not what I would expect from a multi national company. Very disappointed. Won't ever stay in RIU hotel again.
RIU Palace Maldives
RIU Palace Maldives - excellent and highly recommended if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful location. The staff were superb, shout out to Rumesh at the pool bar, Anu, Puja and Daisy at the bar and Cloudy in watersports. Always greeted by our first names and a welcoming smile (how they remember everyones names is beyond me!)
We stayed on the Palace side of the island which was quieter than the Atoll side. The staff work very hard to keep all areas immaculately clean, cannot fault the room cleaning and the towel decoration is a clever and lovely touch….. TOP TIP: if you have a beach access suite use one of the room bins filled with water on the patio to wash off feet and shoes preventing sand getting into the room, the cleaner will even change the water for you every day :)
The food was well presented, lots of variety and very good (it’s the first holiday we have had without a glimpse of a bad stomach!)
Highly recommended 5*

Surprise du manque de considération des clients par un Riu : l'annulation de ma réservation via internet a buggé. Je n'ai reçu aucune relance de la part de l'hôtel concernant le paiement j'ai donc été débité de pénalités assez conséquentes. J'ai pourtant expliqué mais rien à faire, je trouve ça juste irrespectueux surtout que j'étais client fidèle !
Surprised by the lack of consideration for customers from a Riu hotel: the cancellation of my online reservation glitched. I didn’t receive any follow-up from the hotel regarding the payment, so I was charged quite significant penalties. I explained the situation, but nothing could be done. I find it really disrespectful, especially since I was a loyal customer!
Sorprendida por la falta de consideración hacia los clientes por parte de un Riu: la cancelación de mi reserva en línea tuvo un fallo. No recibí ningún recordatorio por parte del hotel acerca del pago, así que me cobraron penalizaciones bastante importantes. Expliqué la situación, pero no hubo nada que hacer. Me parece realmente una falta de respeto, sobre todo porque era un cliente fiel.

Wir sind öfter in riu Hotels unterwegs und leider stelle ich immer wieder fest das es von Jahr zu Jahr schlechter wird. Man fühlt sich nach dem Essen (nicht viel Esser) extrem schlecht voll und schlapp. Liegt wohl daran das sehr viel Geschmacksverstärker und Konservierungsmittel genutzt werden. Zu dem ist das Abendprogramm einfach nur langweilig 🥱 Getränkeauswahl sehr schlecht. Angestellten sind alle sehr freundlich!!!
