Myself and three friends booked a day off work for a spa day so we could spend some quality time together. We chose Clifford Spa in Nottingham, which, as we’re from Walsall, is quite a journey for us. On the morning of our visit, just as we were about to set off, one of us received a call informing us that due to staff sickness, our treatments would be cut short by 50 minutes. There was no real apology and nothing offered to compensate or enhance our stay. The receptionist seemed completely indifferent.
We decided to go anyway as we were already prepared to leave. When we arrived, we raised the issue about our shortened treatments, but again, the receptionist (who had a broken foot) showed no concern. We asked to speak to a manager and were told they were busy and that the only option was to email customer services, which is handled by an external company. No apology, no effort to provide any customer service.
We were given no instructions on where to go or what to do—just a dismissive “thanks and bye.” When we asked where we should go, we were met with more attitude and rudeness. I requested complimentary towels given that our package had been reduced, and she said she would “go and ask someone”—despite previously claiming there was no manager available.
The spa itself is nicely laid out, but cleanliness was below par, and the afternoon tea was disappointing—no free-flowing tea or coffee. The treatment therapists were lovely and actually told us about facilities we could use, which we hadn’t been informed of by reception. We only learned about the upstairs suite because of them. When we asked the therapists about the sickness issue, they knew nothing about it, which raised further suspicions.
When we left, we tried again to speak to a manager but were told none was available. Later, when we went to leave a review, we discovered that many others had experienced the same issue at different times. This suggests it’s a recurring problem and feels like a scam. We will be reporting this to Trading Standards.

AVOID I have paid for the life membership then upgraded to include monthly treatments. Prebooked treatments have been cancelled since June. I get a text message on the day to say it's been cancelled due to staff sickness. I've complained formally twice with no response. In process of seeking advice from trading standards

Absolute con artists unfortunately! After booking, we discovered so many negative reports about this establishment that we tried to cancel. We were informed that a refund was not possible and unfortunately we had to re-book. We did so, on the day that we were due to arrive, we were called and told that due to staff sickness, our treatment had been halved in time. To us this was unacceptable, when looking on trust pilot, we discovered complaints about treatments being halved on the day( due to staff sickness) going back as far as the beginning of this year!
we travelled to the spa in hopes of getting a refund. We were told that no managers were available, they don't have telephone numbers for them to be contacted and that reception staff cannot give refunds. Whilst in discussions, a manager did call on a mobile phone. The lady dealing with our complaint went on to explain that lots of customers were unhappy due to treatment times being halved. He asked her how many , she replied 42. He said that isn't many and she agreed. I explained that this is false selling and ripping people off! I will be reporting to trading standards and press. They have now blocked me on line to prevent my feedback from being seen. STAY AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT RIPPING OFF!

If I could give them a minus star I would. I’ve now been waiting 8 months for a refund. Afternoon tea booked with 90 mins spa treatment. They only managed 40 mins due to staff sickness. I was told I would get a refund and after a ridiculous amount of emails, fb messages and phone calls still nothing. Staff are rude and completely unhelpful. No one ever comes back to me with answers. It’s the same thing every time I contact them. Even the staff on the phone make you feel like you are a nusiance and you are interrupting them. Stay away!

Clifford Health Club are using sickness as an excuse to cut people treatment times and offer free afternoon tea the next time. Why should people pay to go again when they don’t get what they have asked for. This has happened on a few occasions which is false selling. Not been back since and will not go back neither will my family and friends.

When visiting a health spa you would normally expect a nice welcome with smiles and a professional attitude but this isn’t the case staff were very uninterested to be there messing on their mobile phones, now also when you visit a spa in my past experience you would normally expect complimentary towels and robes sometimes footwear to walk around the facility’s in(nope) not this place they charged us both 12.99 each to use a robe and towel which you have to hand in at the end of your visit for that price I want to keep them. No actual lockers to use unless you brought your own pad lock so we had to place our item in a cleaning cupboard next to a Henry hoover( such class) now walking round bare foot in a spa you would expect clean floors but because of the volume of people walking around I could compare it to having a spa in the middle of King’s Cross station awful. There was one male toilet and two female that we could find anyway but this was because the signage was poor all these people and so little toilet facilities. The afternoon tea was poor and the massage session was more like a mr meagre wax on wax off Daniel son session. If you want a nice relaxing spa day the. Don’t go here

Booked a spa day with massage and afternoon tea for 3 people. Confirmed details prior to arrival and at the reception and on arrival due to dietry problems and on every occasion told no problem we can accommodate. We were given a time to have afternoon tea and when we arrived at the café we were told we did not have a lunch. As they did not know about dietary problems and could not accommodate them now.
Massage was poor, repetitive movements that felt like " wax on, wax off," and not a lot else. I asked her to increase pressure and no response. The bed was too high for her, she was stood at the head end for most of the massage and when leaning down to "wax on wax off" my lower back she was leaning on my head with her stomach pushing my head into the bed. Music was playing from a CD in the room that kept jumping and skipping, all in all not the tranquil experience I was hoping for.
On the day I spoke to the manager apparently called Tara, who agreed the whole experience was not acceptable. She told me that she had sent this information to the complaints team to get in touch with me.
I received a satisfaction email when we departed which I completed outlining the experience. NO RESPONSE.
I emailed customer services and left it 14 days, as this is apparently the time frame to respond. NO RESPONSE
I emailed again the customer service team and waited again NO RESPONSE
I called to speak to the manager due to the lack of response. I was assured that Tara the manager was not available at that time but the receptionist would get her to call me back.NO RESPONSE
Having had no call back after another 5 days I called again asked to speak to manger explained the whole saga about no contact and was assured by the receptionist I would get a call back that day. NO RESPONSE!
2 months on and still no response.
Terrible customer service and experience. Do not go.

The deals are not deals, they call you on the day and halve your treatments saying staff sickness, we asked alot of people and the beautician and no one knew anything about it, its a con!
This happened to a friend also, called on the day to halve the times, they have given us another 'day' however its an hour to get there
The receptionist was very dismissive, didnt tell us where to go, we almost missed a whole area thats hidden by the ladies toilets the serenity lounge, we only knew about it at 5pm because the ladies doing the treatments told us about it

Visited the spa on Sunday and yes it was busy but we 3 managed to access all areas. Our slot was 12 til 5. The treatment was lovely and afternoon tea nice.. have given the rating due to value for money.. we had a great day and will return

Lovely helpful staff,clean facilities, nice enough food but rather small portions, the sreamrooms are enjoyable, nice swimming pool,amazing massage therapists although the treatment rooms could do with a little update.great value for money, i always look forward to going..

Terrible and none existent communication from the company. I sent an official complaint today via email and on WhatsApp and heard nothing back Terrible! I did a 140 miles round trip on Saturday (26/10/2025) to this spa for a day experience with treatment, and due to staff sickness which I appreciate cannot be helped we only got a 40 minutes treatment and are having to go back (another 140 miles round trip) for the remaining treatment. I sent an official complaint as the least they can do for mileage and expenses incurred for the second visit is provide afternoon tea when we are there. When we arrived on the 26/10/2025 the lady who checked us in said it would be included on our return visit which sweetened the situation and then when we checked out another lady said no (very conflicting information). I sent an official complaint today and they don't even have the courtesy to respond on email or WhatsApp.

Been waiting for customer sevices to reply for several days now as they have no availability to use our vouchers that we have already purchased. Shocking service.

If I could give this spa a zero I would! It’s utter shit!! Over crowded and poorly run. The facilities were broken and the hot tub was freezing cold. Nowhere to sit as they allow too many people in who leave their towels on beds to claim them. Staff do absolutely nothing to police this. Reception staff seemed clueless and barely make eye contact with you on arrival. We weren’t offered towels or robes and had to ask where we even enter the spa as it was our first time, girl on reception just said “oh right… over there!” And continued to faff about doing something else… was supposed to have 90 minute treatment each but they had moved our treatment time and failed to inform us so we lost most of it. The girl doing my massage was terrible, she kept huffing and puffing like it was all a massive inconvenience for her to be there, kept taking one hand off the check her phone and was aggressively massaging the sides of my throat for ages… it was the most bizarre experience…. And they had shoved all dirty towels under the spa bed so that’s what I was looking at throughout the treatment. It was awful!! We left the spa 3 hours before we were due to be out, complained to reception about it all and were simply told “we can’t do refunds in house” I was given an email to send my complaint to and when I sent it off it bounced straight back as unrecognised!! Crafty lying shits! I tracked the correct email down and I have sent 3 emails with zero response so far!! How this spa is still running is beyond me..🤯 DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! It’s all a big scam by the look of it…

Paid for a package to take my mother for her birthday, standard of treatment wasn’t great my 2 year old daughter could have applied more pressure, and also the package I paid for (treatments) was different to what we was offered.. when I checked online there was a £40 difference to what I paid for and received. Put in a complaint and haven’t heard anything back 3 weeks on, exceeding the time frame given to receive a response. Absolutely no help at all. I’m constantly receiving emails with deals, so they’re quick enough to take your money but don’t give a damn when it comes to customer service. If you’re attending I would make sure you’re getting the correct treatments that you’ve paid for as it’s very much a conveyor belt with no care given.

If I could rate them -100 stars I would. Terrible customer service. Been waiting for a refund since March. Emailed and rung loads of times and still no one comes back to me. They have all my bank details. And I’m still chasing. No one takes any responsibility when you ring. They cram too many people into the place. Should have had a 90 min treatment and only had 40 mins due to sickness. The whole day was a disappointment from start of finish.

What an amazing day we have had as a group of 4 friends today.

The staff all made us so welcome. Holly so helpful over second bookings and the back massage Sonia gave me was delightful, relaxing and freeing!

I have never been to a Spa offering so many different sauna, steam rooms and water therapy options! And all looking clean and inviting.

The afternoon tea was perfect. Looked and tasted very good.

Great relaxation areas with several heated recliners.

Oh and all exceptional value. Thank you all at Clifford Spa.

On arrival staff were very helpful especially being my first time at the spa. The variety and amount of different spas and saunas
was great and such a joy to try them all.
My friend, who had taken me, arranged the time for our afternoon tea which was delicious and not a crumb left on the plate.
Next was the brilliant 90 minute massage by very professional ladies ,who were determined to give us a memorable experience , which never let them down !
My personal Masseur was Getuta and she was absolutely brilliant! Looking forward to my next visit.

Asha, the therapist was using her phone throughout the session. She was only using one hand on the massage, and the other was on her phone. I caught her doing that and said she was on it the entire time and she replied, not all of it. She never apologized!!!

Reading these poor performance reviews is also a reflected with regards to staff treatment , maybe paying staff wages on time and treating staff with some respect may maintain staff levels and staff attendance to prevent poor customer services . Never visited for what they offer and would never attend knowing what I know about the business and how they treat staff ,
