I signed a 5-year JLA Catering Response maintenance contract in November 2025 for 7-day emergency cover, annual services, gas safety checks and bi-annual extraction cleaning on all our kitchen equipment, including ice machines and walk-ins. We pay £472 + VAT monthly in advance.
From day one the service has been dreadful. Constant delays, often weeks or a month for call-outs despite the 7-day promise. JLA admit they have no engineers in our area and rely on contractors.
Repairs are poor quality. We paid £398.45 for ice machine parts that failed in 24 hours. JLA then tried to write the machine off as “uneconomical” but refused to share the subcontractor quote despite repeated requests.
They also attempted to write off our walk-in fridge/freezer after supplying wrong seals. The bi-annual extraction cleaning was so badly done we had to call them back to redo it.
Parts pricing involves double margins (contractor quotes JLA, JLA adds another markup — e.g. £250 pump quoted to us at £620 + VAT). They also refuse to share the contractors ice machine repair quote that they used to terminate the contract saying is not viable. Which speaks for its self. As the contractor said it can be repaired.
Customer service is appalling — broken promises, generic replies, unresolved credits and invoices.
JLA have now cancelled the entire contract (they initiated termination, not me, they didn't give us a choice) while trying to keep the money paid in advance for future services (including annual gas safety checks due in October 2026). I have forwarded further emails showing invoice queries have not been actioned.
JLA replied to this review saying they are “working to reach a fair resolution”, but as of today the key issues (full refunds, the missing quote, and proper closure) remain unresolved.
The contract was completely mis-sold. Once you sign you’re stuck paying for a service they cannot deliver. We are now having to take legal action to recover our money.
Avoid JLA completely, especially for commercial kitchen, ice machines, walk-ins or extraction cleaning. One of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.
