I have not purchased a vehicle via this website, nor would I. Here’s why.

First, there’s the “admin fee” of £250 per vehicle. The only “admin” there is to do is the registration document which is hardly 250 quid’s worth. I’ve never heard of any used car trader charging such a fee. So that immediately puts the price up.

Then there’s the “3 year free warranty”. This covers the engine and gearbox only, which “might include the NOX sensors”. Well does it or doesn’t it? Want a warranty that’s worth the paper it’s written on? That’ll be another £500. So the £5k car I was interested in is now nearer six.

Then there’s the “make an enquiry” online form. You ask a question and they phone you up and say “how can I help you?” This happened twice so I can only assume its standard procedure. Why bother asking the question on the form when you have to ask it all over again?

Then there’s “Jay”, the salesman. He’s the guy who said he’d read my question but made me ask it again any way, and if you’ve enquired about more than one car then you’d better make a note of what you’ve asked or you’ve no chance of getting any sense out of him.

I could also sense that Jay was getting more and more irritated and agitated with the awkward questions I was asking, you know, really awkward ones like “can you confirm that this car has cruise control”. If he gets irritated by that then I can only imagine how he'd behave in a dispute situation.

Want to test drive the car you’re interested in? Well you can, but it won’t have been “processed”, which as far as I can tell means it won’t have been serviced, valeted or checked for roadworthiness. Remember, the DRIVER of a vehicle is legally responsible for its roadworthiness, so if you get pulled up on your test drive and plod find something wrong with it then YOU get the fines and points, not Jay.

Then there’s the pressure on the phone to “reserve” the car that you haven’t even seen in the flesh yet, let alone test driven, or to put down a deposit on it so that they can “process” it ready for sale.

One can often get a bad feeling about traders like this just from phone conversations, and I got a very bad feeling such that I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole. 3/10 Jay, must try harder.
