I have been going to the Monopoly events cons now for a number of years and only seen them go from strength to strength. The celebs they get to come are amazing. I have attend both Manchester and Liverpool and intend to start going to ones further afield. I only went originally to meet some of the Doctors from Doctor who as I’ve always been a huge fan and since then I’ve been hooked. The staff work incredibly hard and the traders have an amazing array of items for sale.

Best comic con providers in the country. They get the biggest names. Their events are run to precision and the staff do their best to keep to busy schedules. I can imagine running events like these are a right nightmare. So monopoly pull them off very well. We pre pay for our auto and photos and get diamond passes. This helps avoid queues. Although when we haven’t had diamond passes the queues were always managed really well. Sometimes they implement virtual queues so you can go away and come back without loosing your spot.

The negative reviews on here in no way represent monopoly events. When they are good monopoly are outstanding. When things go wrong or guests cancel or things change. Monopoly are fast ar communicating it to the customers and they refund you immediately. Happy days. What more do you want from a convention organiser.

Attended the scream event at Metro Majestic in Ashton under lyne. When we arrived we were told to just go straight in even though they sold tickets in time slots which I assumed was for health and safety reasons (in case of a fire). There wasn't any sort of system and they were just letting people in when they turned up. Before we went in we discovered there was lot of crawling on hands and knees which wasn't advertised. This meant 2 of our party couldn't go in.
The others reported back that everyone was packed in and there were other people in front and other people behind - while they were crawling in the dark for at least half of the time. This was nothing more than turning the lights out and having actors grabbing at you so you could probably recreate it in your living room.

After, we went to Chute bar (also owned by Monopoly events). The CEO was there and came across responsive and said to email them and they'd 'sort something out'. I emailed but it bounced back due to a misconfigured domain. I messaged their facebook page. Nothing. I then found they'd changed their domain and email to the co.uk version so emailed that. Nothing. Messaged FB again and eventually go a reply but reluctant to give out the correct email until they eventually gave me the email for Chute Bar. I emailed that and got nothing. They're now ignoring FB messenger even through the messages are seen . Trustpilot explains why.

It's bizarre that they turned a very minor issue (from a very forgiving customer) into something bigger when this couldve been nipped in the bud.

There's a huge red flag by Monopoly events for me now and it's a concern they have also bought a venue in Stalybridge too and I think it's only going to bring trouble, rather than the positive change that the hype is suggesting.

It's like someone got themselves a stash of cash, bought expensive toys but hasn't got a clue how to look after them and plans to just keep buying more new toys.

Horrendous, staff were so rude. Gave you little information about what was expected upon signing with a guest. Cancelled a major guest last minute and had to chase up a refund (almost until the last minute for the deadline of being able to receive it). Security at the after party were horrendous, screaming in people’s faces and swearing when we were in an orderly que, queuing for merch. Got a meet and greet with Brad douriff (this was my first time ever at a signing event so I didn’t know the etiquette) I asked if I was allowed a print to be signed (whilst he was signing my pop vinyl) instead of saying “yes but it’s only one item to be signed” she said “yes” as I placed them on the table infront of him (which I would have paid more for given that you could pay for extras on the day) she snatched them from me and was like “NO, HE CANT SIGN THOSE!” Which left me feeling so deflated from the experience, and like I said… I was more than prepared to pay more, but the information was so vague and then that just ruined my experience completely.
I’m only giving two stars because the actual guests were lovely, but it’s clear that the staff are literally there for the money and after forking out £300+ for meets, autographs and merch, don’t really expect to be treated so poorly.

2023 was my first, and properly last, For the Love of Horror. We attended the Afterparty on the Saturday night following by the day event on Sunday.

The security staff at the event were rude, their language (given there were children at the event) was disgusting, and I witnessed them assault a young girl. They treat guests like animals, giving conflicting instructions and then swearing and shouting in guests faces when they were just asking for directions. I proceeded to email and direct message FTLOH on Instagram that same night with my very serious concerns and allegations. Weeks later and I’ve not had any sort of acknowledgment of my query.

As others have said, over-selling/over-crowding and rude staff are an issue. Given, this is my first of Monopoly’s events, but it was the worst possible first impression. There is clearly no thought about the guest whatsoever, and I’d avoid purely based on the staff.

As a cosplay veteran at Comic Cons in Liverpool and the north-west of England, I've been at every Comic-con in Liverpool run by Monopoly Events since it first opened after MCM left.

When they first started up, the organisers were very friendly towards cosplayers until they changed their cosplay competitions after covid.

The first one I took part in wasn't so bad, they had experienced professional cosplayers checking costumes, backstories, and all the evidence that went into making them as your costumes had to be handmade up to 75% and by yourself.

However during the following year, in 2022, they didn't. They had their competitions run by local amateur cosplay guilds, who didn't do any checks, and allowed underaged people to enter their £500 competitions at the last minute, as well as cheats who got their costumes commissioned by other people.

This ended up with over 6 competitors who took part in that competition to complain via emails. However, what we got back was awful. All of us got gaslit, bullied, and threatened with litigation when we went public.

After spending 16 months investigating them, I found out that we weren't the only ones to have been threatened. Other cosplayers from their other venues have also been threatened, bullied, and gaslit.

Monopoly Events have also recently changed their Company Number on Companies House, (from No:09963416 to No:13788864) when they nearly got struck off 'companies house'.

CONCLUSION

Overall, I warn people to stay away from any Monopoly Events events, as they are overcrowded, their staff are always grumpy, rude, and unhelpful, the queuing system is always broken and they bully and treat cosplayers extremely badly.

I have been to four different comic con events organised by Monopoly and as much as I have enjoyed meeting the guests there are definitely more negatives than positives to come out of my experiences and the only reason I am leaving a review on here for people is because Monopoly delete all comments from their social media that they deem negative, including constructive criticism and issues so they look like the perfect company.
Two of the comic cons I have attended have been held at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester which I believe is not ideal, the venue gets rammed and it is difficult to enter/exit with bottlenecks and difficulty moving around due to the autograph lines, it was difficult enough for me and I heard several people with disabilities left as it was impossible for them to get round. I've learnt that Monopoly own this venue so are unlikely to change to something more appropriate. On both occasions the vendors were not selling any drinks - only the bar inside where the queues were huge. I have been told that Monopoly don't allow vendors to sell drinks so they can make all the profit at the bar instead! Definitely some health and safety issues.
They charge £12 to use their car park which was oversold at the last event so they refunded people last minute or crammed them in and blocked other cars.
I understand that waiting time in queues can be quite long and Monopoly have made attendees book timeslots for certain guests - but what is the point if they aren't going to police this and allow you to get your auto/photo done in your allocated time slot?
At two different comic cons I have still been stood in a queue at 6pm (closing time) waiting for a photo/auto and I have been lucky enough that the guest was nice enough to stay behind. I had a timeslot for 2.40-2.50 for one guest and was still queuing for them at nearly 6pm despite the fact staff were letting people with later slots queue in front of me.
At each event I have attended I have purchased COAs for autographs and it has always been a battle to get these registered afterwards. I am still battling to get some registered from an event two months ago but communication is absolutely shocking - I've been told they've been registered when they haven't and now I'm being ignored completely! So I've paid for a service that I haven't actually recieved yet. I've seen other people say its been a year and they've given up trying to get it sorted so what hope do I have?
The thing that has forever put me off attending another Comic Con is that we were due to attend our fifth comic con of the year in December and the only reason for going was to see Elizabeth Olsen and the guy from Blue Beetle. Both guests have cancelled and there is literally no reason for us to attend anymore. Elizabeth Olsen was rearranged to a new date in May 2024 and we agreed to have the tickets transferred HOWEVER they refuse to refund/exchange our entry tickets for the December date (which you need to purchase in order to get in and get your auto/photos with a guest) so we have now wasted our money and they expect us to shell out another £50 for entry tickets for the date in May - absolutely disgusting.
I would also like to mention that Ticket Quarter who you buy the tickets through are just as bad - if guests cancel you get a refund but they don't refund you the extortionate amount they charge you in extra fees! And charging £1 to print your tickets with your own printer, what's that all about??
Due to these issues and the issue with the COAs I feel I have been completely scammed by this company and they have no sympathy, respect or compassion for the people who pay probably £1000s at these events.
They refuse to fix ongoing issues or their lack of communication but continue to expand their business and put on more shows which to me shows they are just interested in the money. So much for 'for the fans by the fans' as they say.

In August this year I attended comic con Wales at the ICC Centre in Newport. I'm pleased to say this is the best convention I've ever been to!

The queues were so well managed, the venue was spacious and the organisers seem have the fan's enjoyment in mind. Autographs too were very well managed and organised, the tables weren't overcrowded and there was plenty of space for each interaction.

The lineup was incredible! With mix of actos from Doctor Who, Marvel, Back to the Future and the Vampire Diaries.
So I attended the event to meet Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Ioan Gruffudd, and within an hour I'd met all three. Fantastic! Plus each guest had their schedule listed at the tables, detailing times for photos and autos, which as so helpful. I had time to go around the space, I met several more people there including Alec Utgoff, Paul McGann and Peter Davison. Ultimately, Monopoly events seem to have the fan's best interests in mind, and are focused on delivering the best possible experience for them. In short;great lineup, well managed and very well organised. Highly recommended.

I paid a total of £468.75 to meet Elizabeth Olsen, just received a email informing me that she wont be attending and that i'll be refunded £185 (the price of getting a photo with her) but as for the remaining £283.75 (entrance tickets) I wont be given a refund. I only bought the entrance tickets IN ORDER TO GET IN AND MEET HER!!! Makes me wonder if she was ever gonna be there in the first place or they just said she was in order to get people to buy there overpriced entrance tickets. An absolute joke and they should be ashamed of themselves for this clear scam especially during the cost of living crisis. They offered a transfer to meet her in May next year but outlined i'd have to buy ANOTHER TWO entrance tickets despite not being refunded for the two i already bought. Absolutely disgusting company.

We were both hugely disappointed with the ‘For the Love of Horror’ event this weekend. The event’s website & socials stipulate the set prices the guests charge for autographs. We were surprised to see that numerous guests had increased their prices by scribbling out the original ones on the display signs & writing in higher prices. It looked messy & was clearly compelled by greed. If the prices are altered, this should be reflected in the corresponding marketing or website. We also felt there were serious problems with health & safety. Too many people that the venue could realistically occupy. Goodness knows how they’d conduct an evacuation in the event of an emergency. We shall be reporting this organiser to their local Trading Standards Department & will also be raising a complaint with the venue itself.

Myself and my husband Attended for the love of horror sat 11th November. We have both been before and experienced how busy it can be but this year was ridiculous,The event was clearly over sold.we both have disabilities and previous years we were given a coloured band to identify that, they didn't bother this year and there were alot of people who should of had them. There was one disabled toilet for the whole venue. The layout was stupid with massive queues everywhere, no one could walk around without having to cut through people queueing for autographs. The venue its self is very warm inside and they had fans on blowing blow8ng hot air inside the autograph area and the seating was a joke throught the whole venue(inside and outside). Clearly they don't care about the needs of their customers with disabilities regardless of how small they might be despite how much people pay to be there. We both left early and saw alot of others leaving early as well. We love the event but if it continues going as it did this weekend we won't go again, it ruined the experience we had paid for and had looked forward to for the past year.

Absolutely disgusting business, with poor business practices. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

were running late the DUO meet was cancelled and apparently they were having to change to single meets with no autographs or photos, we refused this as it is obviously not what we paid for. after numerous emails with the events company and being fobbed off i've had no choice but to Make people aware of these scammers

They will rip you off with pre purchased tickets if a guest cancels.
Never pay for an autograph or photograph before the event. If the guest cancels you won’t get a full refund. Both monopoly and ticketquarter are running a scam on you.
