Sabotage
My experience with Lindleys based on 4 visits
Visit 1. Took my import 1992 N plate Lancia Delta Evo I for mot. Failed on emissions.
Visit 2. Took Delta back to Lindleys for retest as I had freed up access to the CO adjuster on ECU tester passed it with no adjustment, second tester was inexperienced with testing and used the wrong testing profile and was not aware of the allowances for imports being allowed to not have a cat till 1995.
A few years later
Visit 3. Took the GF's Honda Civic for MOT main failure points where headlight bulb and suspension arms, the GF opted to take it to her usual garage to get these done along with some of the advisories and all that work done for less than Lindleys quote for just the bulb and arms.
Visit 4. Back to Lindleys for the free retest which should have been just the bulb and suspension arms but now they find 2 damaged CV boots very fresh. Now the MOT has expired normally people would feel obligated to get the work done at the garage that found the fault but I am knowledgeable enough to know as long as it's booked into a garage for work you can drive it straight there with no MOT so GF called and booked it with her garage and I drove it straight there.
The GF's garage inspected and found one boot punctured with a screwdriver and the other looked to have been sliced with a knife. Saved about £100 getting the work done with them and they setup an MOT locally and passed with flying colours.
Note I would have had to pay full rate for another retest at Lindleys so if I had gone with them they would have been quids in doing another "full retest" to just test the boots which would save loads on labour.
So comparing these garages side by side both got 4.8 stars on Google but after comparing the negative reviews Lindleys has negatives based on workmanship and other suspicious practices my GF's garage only got negatives for customer service related issues that could be chalked down to being run by a polish family and English being there second language like with my GF no actual complaints about the work.
Personally I've never had a car fail MOT only to fail again on a retest for something unrelated to the original fault!

We take the integrity of our MOT testing extremely seriously, and we want to be absolutely clear that we would never deliberately damage a customer’s vehicle. The suggestion of sabotage is a very serious allegation, and one we would like to investigate fully.
MOT retests can sometimes identify additional issues that may not have been visible or present at the time of the initial inspection, but we understand why this situation has caused concern.

Booked in for a mot, Lindleys wanted a minimum of £2458 for work to get it through an mot and £850 advisory’s.
I took the unsatisfactory mot document to another reputable garage and got all the work done for £1200. Wow

Had their mobile service, at my workplace. Rang when they said pre-arrival (which is very helpful) met and discussed and was told the time period, again, very helpful, was able to go back into work. Rang at the end of the work, at the time he’d stated, again very helpful. All good, will use them again.
