Lots of information on website. Decided on the big one, only two of us but lots of veg and fruit peelings, also a big garden for grass cuttings and twigs. Ordering and delivery were faultless.

Extra top up of the wood chip ordered
Extra top up of the wood chip ordered - delivered promptly - all good. Hotbin continues to fire away. Every good garden should have one (well we have two!)

The wood chip does make a good addition to help maintain the good airflow through the heap. Fantastic both your HOTBINs are cooking away nicely, sounds like hot stuff! We definitely agree with you on your point, "Every good garden should have one!" 😉

That's good to hear, happy composting! 🙂
Everything arrived as expected; installation went smoothly
Everything arrived as expected, either on the same day, or possibly one day apart (I can't remember!). The instructions were easy to follow and installation went smoothly. The composter looks very smart, although it blends in so well I have to tell people it's there. A little early at this stage to have achieved hotbin temperatures, but I have no doubt this will happen soon.

Glad everything arrived as expected and we’ll happily take “very smart”, high praise indeed! 🙂
I remember Alys Fowler once describing HOTBIN as “hot, sleek and sexy” in The Guardian, which isn’t bad going for something designed to compost kitchen and garden waste.
Having a compost bin that blends into the garden, and doesn’t shout for attention is definitely a bonus, that is unless you want to tell everyone you know it's there.
Just keep adding waste and you'll steadily see the temperature increase, sounds like you’re off to a really good start.
Hotbin Composter review
Ordering the Hotbin from their website was a breeze, finding it easy to navigate with lots of hints and tips as to the composting process. I went for the bundle that includes the plinth, which was delivered within days and arrived well packed in cardboard boxes. The bin is well made, nice and thick to retain the necessary heat, making a great addition to my allotment. All the bundle items were there and already ticked off on a sheet, including a very useful information sheet, which I will laminate to keep in my shed for reference.

A easy breezy ordering process is what we like to hear. It sounds like you’ve got off to a really well-organised start, right down to laminating the user guide to keep in the shed. 👍
Really pleased the website helped, the HOTBIN bundle arrived safely, and that the HOTBIN is already feeling like a good fit for your allotment.

Off to a cracking start by the sound of things, 40°C plus within 24 hours!
DID YOU KNOW?
At 40°C HOTBINs compost 16 times faster than cold compost bins which typically average 10°C in the UK... if you are lucky 😉
Really glad the instructions and videos helped you get going with confidence. Sounds like your HOTBIN wasted no time getting down to business!
Very Good Information

This is brilliant to read. There are definitely cheaper options out there but HOTBIN is hard to beat on speed and efficiency, so it means a lot that the quality and performance stood out.

Took a while to get going but pleased overall
I got the Hotbin Mini last year in August for the balcony of my flat. It took a while to get it up to the right temperature to start hot composting, I think because I didn't have enough material to put in it just from my household of 2. This caused a minor problem for the first few months as the bin attracted fruit flies while it was under temperature. Now our neighbour also brings round his kitchen waste and with a bit more material and aerating the bin regularly it's been much easier to get it working. It's produced a couple of batches of compost and is working well. I find it often seems to be a bit below 40 degrees but still seems to be composting. I'd recommend getting some extra cam straps for the hatch as it easily bulges with just one.

This is really useful feedback, thank you for sharing your “real life” experience.
You’re absolutely right that HOTBIN works best when it has enough regular material going in, and a smaller household can take a little longer to build that active volume. Great solution getting your neighbour involved, community composting on a balcony is impressive!
Glad to hear it’s now producing compost and working well overall. And thank you for the note on the hatch straps too, we’ll pass that feedback on.
Delivered on time

Fab to hear the guidance helped you feel supported while getting started, especially with something that can feel a bit new at first. We’re so pleased the clear instructions and practical support made the setup feel manageable.
Loved what you said about becoming more mindful with food waste. That’s one of the most rewarding parts of HOTBIN: seeing everyday scraps turn into something useful, and feeling like you’re making a small but meaningful difference!
