I wish I could give zero stars. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had with any medical/cosmetic service, and the way (and their “partner” My Hair Transplant Manchester) have handled my complaint has been shocking.

In October 2025, I had one in-person consultation with Joseph Primarolo in Shrewsbury. He presented the entire hair transplant procedure as one seamless service under Hair Loss Clinics. The signed contract I was given in person shows a **single total price of £3,800** (£2,300 non-refundable deposit + £1,500 balance on the day to “the surgeon”), with no mention of two separate companies or separate terms. Everything was worded as “your Hair Transplant Surgery”, “the surgical team”, “the booking process & forward planning of the surgical team” — all under his company branding. He also told me I’d return to him in Shrewsbury for follow-up PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections, which he said he would perform himself. He gave the strong impression this was one integrated operation.

I paid the £2,300 deposit to Shrewsbury Hair Loss Clinic Limited. The procedure was booked for me to go to Manchester.

The procedure was cancelled twice due to high blood pressure (newly identified during screening — confirmed as “new hypertension” by my GP). On the second attempt (18 December 2025), Dr Khawaja Masood Munir at Manchester personally instructed me to take an extra full dose of Amlodipine despite knowing I’d already taken my daily maximum — a highly dangerous move that risks overdose, acute hypotension, and shock. He then administered diazepam (Valium) without explaining risks, side effects, interactions (I have epilepsy and take high-dose Lamotrigine), or obtaining informed consent.

I was kicked out after just 15–20 minutes with no proper monitoring. Shortly after leaving, I suffered a severe adverse reaction: confusion, slurred speech, extreme drowsiness, unsteadiness, dizziness, and terrifying visual and auditory hallucinations. My mother (who witnessed everything) had to write an email on my behalf because I was too impaired to do so myself. A letter from my GP (7 Jan 2026) describes this as a “significant adverse reaction” that was “traumatic” and has left me with situational anxiety, especially in clinical settings. She states it would now be **unsafe** for me to return to that clinic due to stress-induced blood pressure spikes.

I asked for a full refund of the £3,800, plus reimbursement of extra costs (~£800 travel/accommodation, £150 GP/medication), compensation for harm, and an apology. Instead:

- Joseph Primarolo (not medically qualified — no GMC/GDC/NMC/GPhC registration) tried to forfeit my £2,300 deposit, claiming I “withheld” medical information (false — hypertension was newly diagnosed).
- He now insists the clinics are “completely separate” — despite the contract treating it as one procedure, and despite his earlier “our partner clinic” language.
- The Manchester clinic’s own T&Cs (section 5.3) state that for cancellations due to previously unknown medical conditions, a full refund minus £500 is given if rescheduling isn’t possible — which applies here.

He also attached my contemporaneous email (written by my mother while I was impaired) to question my reaction — ignoring that paradoxical reactions to diazepam can escalate over time and match exactly what I described.

I have initiated a Section 75 chargeback, reported the clinic to the CQC, Dr Munir to the GMC, and the misleading advertising/website to the ASA.

Bottom line: misrepresentation of the service as one integrated operation, unsafe medical practice causing real harm, refusal to refund despite their own policy, unqualified commentary from a non-medical consultant, and dismissive complaint handling.

Avoid this company completely. You’re not getting a professional, transparent, safe service — you’re getting high-volume, technician-led treatment with poor oversight, hidden separation of clinics when it suits them, and no accountability when things go wrong.

I suffered hair loss after being very ill and in Intensive Care. After some research, I chose to have a consultation at HLC Liverpool, where Jordan answered all my queries and concerns, while explaining thoroughly how the laser treatment works and what to expect. There was no sales pitch pressure whatsoever.
After only a few weeks, I noticed that my hair was no longer shedding, while I began to observe little spikes of regrowth within a couple of months. I’ve adhered incessantly to the program, using the given shampoo, minoxidil and taking the Saw Palmetto capsules. I was fully aware that the speed of regrowth would vary from person to person, and Jordan advised that we would continue with the treatment accordingly - something that I am more than happy to do, as my hair is continuing to regrow along with my confidence.
The atmosphere in the clinic is very relaxing, whilst Jordan is extremely professional and encouraging. I would highly recommend Laser Hair Therapy at HLC, Liverpool.

I started my treatment in Oct 2024, was told that in maximum 9 months I will either have my hair or my money back. Paid for everything in full, followed the instructions, never missed an appointment. After 6 months there were no results, was told to keep going, after 9 months same thing. 12 months have passed and the results are minimal, definitely nothing compared to the before/after pictures that Jordan from the Liverpool clinic showed me. Even he said multiple times that it’s not as expected and “just needs more time”. After 12 months (3 more than what the deal was), I requested a refund, since there was a “money-back guarantee”. Jordan said that it worked a bit, so that means no refund, but I can keep trying the laser treatment if I want and, if he says that it’s not working in another 3 months he will do the refund. So those 9 months turned to 15, just because he wants to. I sent an email to the hlc people and it got ignored for weeks, then I replied to their newsletter email they send and they replied immediately. After asking the same questions again, they sent a short reply saying that the questions were sent to the relevant clinic and will get a reply back. This was more than a month ago.
I do not recommend this treatment ONLY because they lied. I understand that this is a medical treatment, therefore everybody reacts differently, but to say “I am 100% sure it works, this is why you have a money back guarantee”, then to say “it worked a bit, so technically it worked, so no refund” is insulting. The customer support is non existent, because they just ignore the emails and it’s up to the accused person if you get the refund or not.
If they would have said “results vary, you might not respond to any of the treatments”, then I would have been fine with spending almost £2000. They just lie to get your money.

Edit after the reply from HLC:
I had exactly 12 months of treatment, not 8.5. Jordan offered 3 more months when I requested my refund. That would have made it 15.
First session 16/10/24, last session 15/10/25, so again, lies.
If I had 30% of improvement, does that equal to successful treatment to you? Or does it mean that I get 70% of my money back? I was told “100% of the hair or money back guarantee”, not “some, maybe 25-30%”.
I did email you twice to discuss about what can be done and you, being respectful and professional, ignored it both times.
Please do email me directly, I do wish to discuss with you, but don’t offer more sessions, because that’s not what we discussed during the initial consult.

Jordan said “minoxidil is not necessary, but it helps”. I was not told it will be absolutely imperative to be used, otherwise the treatment takes years.

Your first reply said 30% improvement, now you are changing it to 50%, so lies again.

I understand that as a business you have to protect yourself, but I hope you never run a restaurant, otherwise people will order a pizza, then the waiter shows up with 30-50% of it and they get charged in full, then they get told they have to wait a few more weeks to get the rest and it may not arrive.

Very welcoming experience they supplied me with everything I need and made it very simple I would very recommend this service to those who are balding and losing faith in looking young again Becuz it possible

I went to the Hair Loss Clinic in Morley hoping to grow my hair back after being diagnosed with androgenic alopecia. I met Lee, who acted like he knew everything about hair loss and told me his treatment would 100% regrow my hair within six months and stop any further loss. The plan included minoxidil, a clarifying shampoo, saw palmetto supplements, and laser sessions.

When I started, I wasn’t even shedding — my hair was just a bit thin around the hairline. But after starting his treatment, my hair began falling out in clumps. Every visit I told Lee and his wife Michelle how bad it was getting, but they told me it was a good sign — that it meant the minoxidil was “working” and was just “getting rid of the hair I would’ve lost anyway.”

Five months later, my hair was still coming out in handfuls. I finally stopped the treatment myself, and only then did the shedding slow down. But by that point, I had lost around 80% of the hair I had before starting. My scalp, which was never visible before, is now clearly showing.

When I confronted Lee, he said I must be a “non-responder” to minoxidil and that it was just hair I was going to lose anyway — which makes no sense, because I wasn’t losing any before I started his program.

I asked for a refund over a month ago, and they still haven’t even bothered to reply, so I’ll now be seeking legal advice.

The photos I’ve attached show the difference between the day I started and after five months — you can see exactly what this treatment did to my hair.

This place isn’t about helping people — it’s all sales talk, false promises, and zero accountability. They took my money, my hair, and my confidence. Please, stay well away

My hair is in worse condition now than it was when I started. Be careful to ask of the qualifications and efficacy of practice. I would avoid and not recommend at all costs. Seek another business if this is the route you're wishing to take.

I was previously let down by a well known hairdresser and then a dermatologist, who failed to identify my hair loss issues, so didn’t know what to expect from HLC in Guildford. However , Chelsea was brilliant. She was honest, knowledgeable, clear and empathetic. A treatment plan was devised for me and I am so happy with the results. Catching the alopecia in time has helped to slow it down and the re- growth of hair in other areas is great. Being able to see the improvements has given me so much more confidence and I am really grateful to Chelsea for all of the advice, support and guidance she has given me. Thank you!

Hi everyone. I'm just writing this review to warn people to take extra care and think carefully about having a treatment done by HLC. After contacting HLC Reading, I had a consultation with Paige McCarthy. After talking to her, she examined my scalp, and she said that my hair follicles were still active. Therefore, the laser treatment would definitely work for me. After the consultation, I did think about it for a few days but because she was so confident and promising, I decided to go ahead with the treatment. I made a full payment of £1,700 and started my 6 months of laser treatment alongside with topical minoxidil, shampoo and some sort of vitamin. Within the 6 month period, my friends, family and I couldn't see any difference with regards to my hair growth. Last time I saw Paige, I addressed to her my concerns that I didn't see any changes. She checked my scalp and told me there's lots of new hair growth, it just needs thickening up. Not sure how that was supposed to happen 🤔 At the time, my wife was also present and Paige said if there's no further changes, then you can contact us again. She said you're welcome to come back and we can do further checks. After a few months I contacted Paige via numerous phone calls, messages, emails and guess what...no response whatsoever. Then I contacted the HLC head office and eventually they said they will look into it. After a few weeks of emails, HLC believed that their treatment had worked, no refunds but offered PRP treatment and more laser treatment. Obviously I declined their offers, why would I want to go back for treatment, that hadn't worked in the first place. I wanted my money back and they said, they stand by their "proof" of it working and the matter is now closed. And keep going on about a disclaimer, which there wasn't one. Just a crappy leaflet which tells you how to use the products. That made me really angry 😡 towards HLC and I wanted to take it further. So I took Reading HLC to a small claims court. First step was mediation and we didn't come to an agreement, because they only offered laser treatment again. So I didn't give up and took it further and end up in Slough County Court. I gathered all my evidence and showed everything to the judge. I won the case 👍💯and HLC didn't have a leg to stand on 😂 The judge ordered HLC to pay £1,700 plus expenses. Which they did within the time that was given by the judge. So everyone reading this review, please, if you're still wanting to have a treatment done from any HLC clinics, please ask for a written disclaimer and don't take their fake promises. I believe they are only after your money and don't care about your feelings about hair loss. And if you had a bad experience with HLC please don't be scared to take it further. I know it's very stressful but 💯 worth it. They shouldn't getaway with it they a bunch of 🦈.So HLC Reading please don't tell me and people this is a fake review, you know who I am.

I’ve been going to the HLC in Guildford since early this year and they’ve been very understanding and supportive throughout the whole treatment , I highly recommend trying them out.

My initial consultation was with Sophie she is very knowledgeable , friendly and took time to go over the treatment plan. I felt no pressure to make a decision. I decided to go ahead and started the following week. I’m now halfway through my treatment and had my midway check. I’m so pleased with the results so far. My hair is this and had gaps which are noticeably filling. My hair fells and looks fuller. Sophie has always been approachable and put me at ease with any concerns.

So my journey started this time last year yes a whole year of getting laser and minoxidil and sawpatemor tablets every 2 weeks I was getting laser with Lee up in the Leeds branch well let me tell you now don’t fall into the trap save your money get a hair transplant because that lasor does not work in the slightest I feel like my hair has got worse since last year it’s all a gimmick and a sales point 2k yes 2k loss and the clinic offer a hair transplant now for a further 2k because the treatment didn’t work did not receive a penny back in compensation currently seeking legal advice to try re coop some of the money I’ve wasted. Just for your information none of them are trained professionals or surgeons or doctors there just a sales man they do nothing to your hair no check ups nothing apart from take your money with no guarantee rant over very saddening writing this tbh because I had high hopes and they got crushed so thanks for nothing HLC

Here’s a update on hlc reply not been offered a refund or anything more than a thanks for the money we can’t help you no more after a year of Lazor and minoxidil! Lee guaranteed that i would grow back some hair not once did he mention it may not work for you obviously a sales pitch or I wouldn’t of gone ahead now your offering me a hairtransplant for a further 4k doesn’t make sense what your reply is about! No customer satisfaction or help or after care for that matter honestly I’m so disappointed in hlc don’t waste your money get a hairtransplant do your homework about this company

I go to the centre in Bromley. I have built a good rapour with Elisha who does my hair. I have gained so much more confidence wearing a hair system and people are always complementing me on my hair.

Great service. Appointments available at convenient times. Communication is always good.

I decided to do the Laser Hair Regrowth treatment with the hair loss clinic after finding out I had female pattern hair loss. I think this has definitely been an effective method to help regrow and strengthen my hair. There were moments when I felt really uncertain or was questioning if it was working but Chelsea was always so lovely and supportive and always kept me going, reassuring me that I was doing things right and that my hair was progressing as it should be. I've been visiting the Tunbridge Wells office for laser treatment for the past six months. Chelsea has been incredibly helpful; her communication has been outstanding from the very beginning. 6 months and £1800 (+ transport to Tun.Wells) later, I saw zero results. Laser treatment, Minoxidil twice a day + tablets and reassurances I will have new hair growth. The photos will tell more than a review - not sure how to post them here, but before and after pics are on Google reviews.
Save your money and don't not trust empty promises.

I have been coming to the Bromley salon for over a year and the quality has never dipped once. Elisha’s professionalism impressed me from day one and I will recommend this to everyone. Great service.
