Everyone we dealt with at Dogs Trust Cardiff were friendly, helpful and answered all our questions. Although we never saw what we were looking for on display we were given information on 2 dogs and picked one of them. After a second visit we've brought our dog home and he's settling in brilliantly. Was so nice to be able to visit and see face to face rather than on line. All the animals were well cared for and in lovely surroundings.
The staff at Cardiff Dogs Trust were very welcoming and professional throughout the whole process of adoption. It’s nice to know that there is a big backup team ready and willing to help with any problems after adoption. I would highly recommend adopting from Dogs Trust.
Amazing support, care and attention to make sure Bella has a forever home and we can support her every step of the way. It’s been a pleasure from the start the staff have been amazing.

Erin, Michelle, Kirsty and the team at the Kenilworth Dogs Trust were amazing and they found me my perfect dog. They were really careful to make sure the dogs we viewed were suitable for our family and were as concerned with making sure my current dog was just as important as the rehoming centre dogs. I would happily recommend Kennilworth Dogs Trust and would use them again in the future.

This is the first time we have adopted a rescue from Dogs Trust. The entire experience was very smooth from start to finish. The staff were friendly, informative and helpful. They ensured the welfare of the dog we adopted was accounted for throughout the entire adoption process and now beyond with regular follow-ups and continuing offers of help when required.

Lois was a great help in pointing us in the right direction, answering any questions or worries we had. She guided us to getting Eggbert (now Teddy) who is a pomeranian and not something we were looking to get and thank God she did because he is just the sweetest, well behaved dog anyone could wish for. I would definitely recommend adopting from Dogs Trust you won't regret it.

Rehoming is not an exact science, but Dogs Trust hold your hand, and their paws, the whole way to give everyone the best chance of success. It’s a tricky job, but these guys are expert, really do care and work with you. Couldn’t ask for more. Post adoption support is all part of it, and that’s incredibly helpful, even to an experienced dog owner! Our thanks for finding our match and making that happen.

We visited Dogs Trust Glasgow wishing to adopt a dog, all of the staff were absolutely amazing and couldn't have been more pleasant, it was lovely to see so many people happy in their jobs. The centre was spotless and dogs very well cared for. Everything was explained clearly throughout the whole process, we met our new member of the family twice before taking him home. We feel totally supported during the adoption process and have been given lots of help and information, with lots of follow up support if required. I would highly recommend visiting Dogs Trust if considering adopting or fostering a dog.

Initially had a positive experience with Dog’s Trust which then turned sour. Having submitted an application some months ago, a dog was recommended to us in March. We were notified of her history (including medical factors such as allergy medication and specific diet) and proceeded to meet her in person at the Canterbury centre. Our two meetings went well and we proceeded with the adoption. As part of the meet-and-greets, we were observed playing with both our adopted dog and our existing dog, watching how they interact, shared toys and we were comforted by the centre staff saying that everything looked positive.
Four days after we brought our new dog home, both dogs were playing in the garden (observed by us at all times, and no more actively than they were playing in the centre setting), and our new dog lost footing and wobbled off balance. After initially seeming fine, later that evening she seemed in discomfort. We booked an out-of-hours vet appointment. The vet felt the dog’s spine and indicated it would likely be a spine issue, such as IVDD (our new dog is a French bulldog) and prescribed rest and medication. Two days later, after no signs of improvement our worries increased - so on a Sunday (again, out-of-hours) we went back to the vet who mentioned that the impact on her walking appeared unlikely to be due to a single event in the time she had lived with us. We were referred us to a neurologist.
The neurologist agreed that our dog did likely have IVDD/slipped discs and the recommendation, in order to preserve her longevity and reduce chances of recurrence, was to proceed with an MRI plus surgery. Wanting to do the best for our new dog, we proceeded with the surgery. The post-surgery report concluded that at least one of the discs was ‘chronic’ and had persisted for longer than 3 weeks i.e. before our adoption. On escalating this to Dog’s Trust, they responded that they saw no signs of spinal issue, and so they would accept no additional responsibility for helping with this.
When adopting through the Dog’s Trust, you get 4 weeks' insurance from PetPlan. However, this is capped. The amount incurred, trying to do the best for our new dog, has far exceeded that cap. We appreciate that we could have decided not to proceed with surgery, however, not knowing how severe the spine was until the MRI (which was taken just before the surgery as part of a ‘package'), we did not want her to be in pain when there was an alternative solution.
After the anxiety of surgery, recovery, and accepting that we would have to pay thousands of pounds that would not be covered by the insurance, we then sought to understand what insurance costs would be should we continue the Petplan coverage. Vet notes from our dog’s time with the Dog’s Trust mention what medical conditions she came into the centre with and expectations such as the need for a BOAS assessment (we are familiar with this, as our existing dog is also a flat-nosed breed). When we provided the vet notes to PetPlan, they stated these would all be permanently excluded from coverage, based on these notes (anything to do with respiratory conditions, skin, ears, regurgitation, BOAS assessment and surgery, etc). They quoted an annual fee of approx £2,700 per year, for £4,000 total annual coverage, ranging up to £4,700 per year for £12,000 annual coverage. This left us in shock.
Separately, after we raised a feedback request to Dog’s Trust about this situation (following which they confirmed they would not do anything further to help us), it felt like we were then “cut off” from any additional support. We never received our three-week check-in call nor our appointment to come back for our dog’s second vaccination.
Dog’s Trust did find us the right dog, however, we never thought that the journey to welcoming her into our home and lives would have looked like this.
