Recent rehome of older dog.
They arranged 2 meets with my dog before I made the decision to rehome her. I was given lots of information and advice on how to settle the dog in and there is ongoing support too, particularly to help with any behaviour problems.

From the moment we first went to Dogs Trust you can see how well loved and cared for the dogs are. All the staff and volunteers do such a wonderful job.

We applied to adopt a dog
We applied to adopt a dog, and within a few days we were contacted. Unfortunately missed the call and the dog was offered to another family
During the process the other family decided he wasn't the right dog for them, so we were contacted again.
The process was smooth and obviously well established. We visited the first time for an initial meet, and took the pup for a walk around the field. We weren't asked to take control of the dog, which I think would have been a good opportunity for us to get to know him.
We visited the second time a few days later, and brought him home that same day.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and their passion for the animals shone through.
They followed up after two days, and the behaviour helpline were able to give some advice around cat reactivity.
Overall a good service, and centred around the animals, as it should be.

Perfect Rehoming
The staff at the Evesham branch were incredible, very accommodating! The entire adoption process was quick and smooth sailing right from our initial enquiry, the pre-adoption 1-on-1s were very handy in regards to meeting the expectations of Marley. He has settled in nicely, and I would highly recommend the Evesham branch to anyone looking to rehome a dog in the future.

Easy to adopt
Applied to adopt was actually rung back. The staff and premises were lovely, I went to Bridgend the wanted us to meet the dog twice and were really accommodating on times so that we just stayed the night and met the dog again next morning.
Process was really easy, had lots of support throughout and it's ongoing.
Wouldn't hesitate to use Dogs Trust again if I wanted another dog.
We adopted Bear and he's slotted right in to the family.

We applied to rescue a dog via the dogs trust website, to which a couple of weeks later we received a phone call that had matched us with a puppy.
Ernie is honestly the most perfect dog for us, and the team at Dogs Trust Cardiff matched us perfectly. The support that was offered before the adoption, and post adoption - has been incredible.
The frequent first meets before adopting were also good, and we liked that we were able to go for a walk rather than just playing with him in a contained environment. The little goodie bag on adoption day is also fab, and had everything that we would need for the first couple of days.
As a couple who work full time, we were unsure about the possibility of being able to rescue a puppy - however, Dogs Trust viewed us as being suitable, and matched us with a dog who really fits our lifestyle.

Open and honest
Dogs Trust were welcoming and happy to happy to be flexible with appointments.
They gave us the opportunity to meet our new dog in a number of situations including those he finds difficult so we fully understood the dog we would be adopting.
They provided training and aftercare to help us settle our dog into his new home.

Exceptional experience
Me and partner adopted Hilda from dogs trust Kenilworth and the staff there was amazing. As we are first time dog parents they were so patient with us when having behaviour sessions. Haven’t got one bad thing to say, despite the on going works to their shelter, they still ran everything so smoothly. They look after the dogs exceptionally well and you can tell every single staff who works there enjoys their job and loves what they do. Couldn’t recommend them enough if you are looking to give a dog their forever home.

The very pleasant staff at Roden.
The staff at Roden were extremely polite and helpful. They helped me fill in the application forms. Each time I visited my new dog the young ladies were polite very kind and helpful. The staff at Roden all smiled all the time. Very nice atmosphere. Thank you.

Poor adoption process
Been looking to adopt a dog from them for ages they keep telling me I have an application but they are doing nothing with it. Keeping dogs in the kennels and not even contacting me about adopting one. I keep contacting them but no use.
How is this supposed to work? poor work.

Thank you for your review, although we are so sorry to hear that you have found your experience applying to adopt so disheartening.
We changed our rehoming process in November 2023 from an application for a specific dog to a general application, as we found that some dogs were receiving hundreds of applications whilst other lovely dogs weren't receiving any.
Our rehoming team regularly review your application in the background, looking closely at the details you provided about your home, lifestyle and preferences, alongside each dog's behaviours, needs and requirements. Every dog has different requirements, so we look at everything on a case-by-case basis, and the team take time to check potential matches thoroughly.
We are currently working through a large volume of applications, so while each application is reviewed frequently, the team aren’t able to reach out unless they’ve identified a dog they feel could be suitable.
We keep every application open for three months. Many people find a match sooner, but it does depend on each person’s circumstances and preferences, and the kinds of dogs coming into our care. Sometimes it can be quick; for others, it may take several weeks or, occasionally, a little longer. If we haven’t been able to make a match within the three-month period, we’ll contact you to invite you to reapply so we can keep your details up to date.
Our Training & Behaviour teams work extremely hard to get to know each dog and their requirements and work with them whilst they are in our care, so we ultimately trust them to make the best decisions possible.

A lovely experience
The staff at Dogs Trust made the adoption very simple plenty of advice on what the first few days for a dog in new surroundings may be like and what we should look out for but for us all when well and Lasy settled in from day one,this was the second dog we have rescued from the Dogs Trust and we would recommend it if you feel you want to own a dog.

I am so happy that Coco adopted me for her Mum, she is a great companion for me, I got her neutered 2 weeks ago and she has been really good.

I have just adopted my first dog (Athena). The staff at Newbury were very welcoming and friendly. They offer lots of advise and are very supportive. They are very knowledgeable and give lots of advice. They made the process very easy. It’s also nice to know that you can get ongoing support if needed once you get your new pet home.

Absolutely wonderful charity who clearly love the dogs in their care.
It was the second time i have adopted a dog from the dogs trust the first time about 11 years ago and when i sadly lost my dog through old age i went back to them this year and got my pup border collie, my experience, and i am sure others that have chosen to adopt this way, from the very beginning to the after care the team were fantastic, clearly loving the dogs in their care.
They provide so much info about the dogs when you visit to meet your chosen dog and are able to do this because of the one to one work they do with each dog in their care.
When you go to pick your dog up you are given a folder with lots of information which includes health check report, flea and worming treatment received and so much more and with enough food to get you started when you get home.
The follow up phone calls you receive to make sure things are going ok are great, they give you advice when needed.
I would highly recommend using the dogs trust and am so pleased with my experience.

My experience of DT is Not good. More interested in making money than helping the dogs they rehome. No support given once the dog is got fid of!

You also referenced previously that your reviews were in relation to how friends of yours have been treated. Once more we would ask they get in touch with us directly so we can look into and seek a resolution for any concerns they may have.
Sadly, leaving multiple 1-star reviews without providing us further information to allow us to investigate, which we are keen to do, does not give us anything we can seek to improve on if we have indeed failed at any step.
Our teams work tirelessly to ensure all adopters and dogs are supported before, during and after the adoption process and we are sorry to hear you do not feel this way.

Quick and clear adoption process
Quick and clear adoption process. Lots of information available for those adopting for the first time. Everything explained clearly regarding dogs history, the process and suitability. We now have a new member of the family, he is much loved already and we are loved back in bucketloads ❤️ We all couldn't be happier with our new dog as he is with us ☺️
