Two big companies very different response
On Monday 29th June myself, my wife , our disabled adult daughter and two small dogs had just left home on our journey for a holiday in Norfolk . Shortly into the journey our 2024 Tiguan’s dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree (10 plus warning lights) . The car still drove ok and as we were very close to VW Vertu in Lincoln we headed there for assistance.
I was extremely disappointed that given our predicament assistance wasn’t available. We were told there was a 4 week lead time , when all we needed was a mechanic to assess the issue. So there we were, forced to wait in the VW dealership waiting for the RAC.
I sat and watch many people in suits staring at screens.
The garage bays ( I had a peek) were very quiet!!
Is this what we now call compassion and service?
After many hours of waiting my daughter getting more upset and with no sign of the RAC , ( several updates repeatedly putting back arrival time), I decided to take the short journey home where she and the dogs would be much more comfortable (especially given the present heat wave conditions).
I won’t document the appalling lack of communication (on one occasion rude) by the RAC and the countless delays as there are far too many , ( none of which would have been known had we not enquired ).
Eventually between 26 and 27 hours later a technician arrived who despite his best efforts was beaten (car not fixed).
The car was collected for repair at VW garage (Grimsby) , I manage to arrange that myself but a replacement car was not forthcoming without waiting in hope on a possible 24 hr call back .
We managed to finally get away ( to Norfolk) using alternative public transport.
The car has been rectified whilst we’re away by the installation of a software update. This is both good (our cars fixed) and bad , why would the car suddenly fail due to poorly designed software? This doesn’t inspire confidence in the brand.
So there we have it , we have lost two plus days of our holiday and had a very stressful three days . We have also a very different view on the customer service provided by two big brands . Surely VW given our circumstances could have spared a few minutes to diagnose what was obviously known as a software issue,
I have written to both RAC and VW Vertu , I had a very positive and apologetic response from the RAC but have not even an acknowledgement from VW Vertu email sent to rforrester at VW Vertu

Thank you for your feedback, Mr. Morris, I'm sorry to hear you've had cause for concern. Whilst I appreciate these instances can be stressful; I can assure you the team acted as swiftly and proactively as possible. Whilst we have a full workshop of technicians, they may not all be on ramps at the time, as they're completing road tests, and moving one out to bring another car in, which is why it may have looked sparse. Speaking with my advisors this morning, I understand that we offered you to leave the vehicle with us whilst trying to source a replacement vehicle from Motability. We plugged in your travel fridge to keep it cool whilst you waited, which may seem insignificant, however goes to show that we we're trying to remove as much stress from the situation as possible whilst you were waiting. I am glad to hear that the RAC and another main dealer managed to rectify the software issue and you're back on the road. I hope you had a great holiday!

Knowledgeable staff
The staff at Vertu were very knowledgeable and could give us the information we needed to make our decision to buy the car. They were prompt to send us the necessary paperwork and registered our new car and deregistered our old one for us, which saved us a lot of trouble. They took their time to make sure that we were familiar with the new car.

I purchased my new car from the Lincoln Volkswagen Vertu store last saturday (4.7.26). The service from start to finish was outstanding. The salesman, Roman went above and beyond to make sure i was happy with my purchase, providing me with great detail on the car itself with great demonstrations of the features. From deciding to purchase an EV the communication from Vertu and VW was excellent at no time did I get anxious about the delivery of my ID4 pro. Dan Pudney was excellent he was not pushy, very friendly and personable and importantly very knowledgeable he answered all my questions no matter how simple. I was looking for a newer car to…
I was looking for a newer car to replace the daughter’s polo. I saw one at Lincoln Vertu. I reserved the car with a £99 deposit and then contacted the garage the next day to arrange an appointment. The gentleman I spoke with was Roman Colins and he was my point of contact throughout the sale. I test drove the vehicle and then sorted out a part ex, service plan and extended warranty. Roman was fantastic, very professional, polite and attentive at all times and helped me sort everything out. I highly recommend Vertu VW Lincoln and especially Roman, it makes a refreshing change to get excellent customer service in these days.
Honestly try these guys and hopefully you will be as satisfied as I am.

Vertu VW. Very clean and pleasant showroom. Very helpful staff. When we arrived the sales team were having their weekly sales team meeting. Not a problem guys from the service department helped us out until the sales were available. The car we were interested in was unlocked for us and then taken for a test drive. Our Sales exec. (Roman) was very open and straight taking. No sales BS! He helped to put a deal together which we were happy with and included all of our requirements. A few days later we collected our “new to us” car. Handover was very easy and quickly done.
A big thanks to all at Vertu for a pleasant experience. Kept informed of what we needed to know all along.

Booked an oil service and inspection here. Check-in was straightforward, I was kept updated during the day, and given good advice on further repairs that might be needed. I can recommend Vertu Volkswagen Lincoln, and I will be using the service again.
