The worst insurance company I've ever…

The worst insurance company I've ever had to deal with, 5 to 10 business days before you get a response. Even to a something simple like policy not showing on the portal.
No help from customer services, unclear guidelines and lots of small print.
You will end up paying for your policy and your treatments with these guys, and never get a response. Good luck claiming because you'll need to use the portal, if the portal doesn't show your policy then you'll have to contact them. If you do that on a Friday they won't contact you back for around 14/15 days

I have the lowest level plan

I have the lowest level plan. What it hides away is this.
Go to dentist for a check up
Then get a clean and scale
Unum class that as a single course of treatment and you only get 27.90 back.
When it was sold to me, via work, Unum made it sound that you'd claim the NHS value back for each treatment.
Check up 1 treatment
Clean 1 treatment
Equals two separate treatments.
Unum define that as one.
For me, that's a terrible snidey way to work things. Definitely wasn't upfront about that. All the examples they gave never gave the above as one.

So bad, it is funny!

Absolutely laughable experience.
Well I can laugh about it now it’s 8 months later.
I was facing redundancy as the MD of the company I worked for. I contacted Unum for assistance as part of their helping hands package, and they eventually returned my call on the day I was made redundant. 24 days later! I 100% would not recommend Unum or any company who recommends them.

Reducing value and no interest in providing a service

I was a 'Clear Continuation' customer with the highest available level of cover for several years after my retirement.

Year on year the return from the policy has reduced in relation to the cost, to the point where a treatment cost £1500 will only result in a £600-£700 payout.

My cancellation phone call summed up the current state of UNUM. The agent didn't even ask why I was cancelling. Either he already guessed or more likely, didn't care.

Not good enough compared to competitors

The customer service is pleasant enough but honestly the portal and offerings are rubbish. My company moved us from simply health who are absolutely brilliant and UNUM isn’t in the same league. If you try and claim a prescription they make you submit a document from your pharmacist proving who the prescription is for. They won’t accept the label on the medication itself as proof. Make it make sense. The app/portal is also super clunky and making a claim is horrible compared to my previous experience. I’ll definitely be feeding back to my company and hoping they change back.
