This card charges a €3/month fee and also charges a significant fee each time that you use the card. 15% of purchase price. An absolute joke!! Never again. It also charges you about €5 to buy the card. So out of a €200 voucher the cost of both purchase and use over a 3 month period is €36!! So you effectively get 80% value and that’s if you are using it conservatively quickly

Based on the details you’ve shared, it sounds like you are referring to our reloadable chip & PIN Mastercard, but please confirm otherwise.
We’d like to clarify a few important points regarding the reloadable card:
Inactive Account Fee: The monthly fee you mentioned only applies if the card is not used (spent or topped up) for 60 days. This fee does not apply if the card is used regularly, or if there are no funds on the account.
Transaction Fees: The purchase fee is 2.95% (Min €0.75, Max €2.95) per transaction, not 15%. This is clearly outlined in our fee structure.
Card Purchase Fee in Retail: When buying a reloadable card in-store, a one-time fee is applied to cover the costs of retail stocking and immediate activation. That said, a free card can be requested by customers who create an account via our app & typically issued within 2–3 working days.
Transparency: All fees are fully disclosed in our Terms & Conditions and are clearly visible on our website to ensure transparency before and after purchase.

Terrible company to deal with
Terrible company to deal with. Bought a gift card and couldn't activate it, got onto Swirl team and showed a screenshot of my transaction and they said I purchased a card from another company....in the Netherlands!! There is no way I would have purchased it from this other company as I was in the Swirl website but somehow the company in the Netherlands got my money! Got onto them also and hit a brick wall, each company blaming the other, I gave up!! Terrible experience

Once set-up, Swirl was easy....
Once set-up the card was easy to manage and trouble-free to use in stores and outlets. It was equivalent to cash transactions or operating a standard bank card for payments. The live updated value indicator on the app was also invaluable giving constant instant account management of the card funds - meaning there were no surprises at all.

If I could give the card 0 stars I would. My son was gifted a swirl pre paid card and it can not be used online or in shops. Waste if money. We have tried multiple ways over a long period of time to sort it. Nothing has worked.

Unable to use it on holidays, very disappointing
Very disappointing when trying to use this card. I am on holidays in Lanzarote and so far it has not been accepted in any shop that I have tried ( have tried large retail shops)and also unable to pay for accommodation with it. It requests a PIN every time it is swiped. It was a gift from Employer and has been disappointing and embarrassing when it is not accepted. I would recommend employers use another type of gift card.

However, it is ultimately up to individual merchants to accept prepaid cards, and some merchants—especially outside of Ireland—may request a PIN code when processing a transaction. So simple to use
I was unsure how to use it as it had no pin like a regular credit card so I tested it out on a small purchase. I just swiped and it worked perfect. I then used it in Spain to make a large purchase and again no issue. It worked perfectly. So easy and convenient to use.
