Give parents back our money.

This company ceased providing services for schools at short notice and are now refusing to refund parents who have remaining balances under £10 without imposing a fee.

They have are holding onto money from parents who are trying to feed their children. Avoid at all costs, less they suddenly withdraw services from you and keep your money.

Fraudulent company

As many others, my child’s school informed us that squid would be ceasing operations in the UK and to claim back money on 6th March. With cynicism, I decided to withdraw most of my money from the account on March 2nd. This went through almost immediately with no fee. On the 6th I claimed the remaining £5 which went through with no mention of fee or that the balance was under £10. I then received an email a week later saying the withdrawal had failed and now it shows transaction fees and unable to withdraw under £10. This is clearly breaking some law and I hope someone out there takes this fraudulent company to court.

Fraudsters

Fraudsters. 10 pounds admin fee to withdraw funds and no refunds for under 10 pounds. Due to force withdrawal of services and appluing T&C changes retrospectively. I have made a formal complaint to the company. Next step will be to complain to the The Financial Ombudsman Service. Everyone should be doing the same.

Absolute disgrace of a company!!

sQuid are not allowing parents to withdraw monies under £10.
Schools had no choice but to find a new provider - because sQuid decided to no longer operate its UK Education businesss - so charging a £10 'admin fee' for each account withdrawal (by changing t&C's at the last minute) is an absolute rip off!! Should be ashamed of yourselves 😡

As well as having to agree to the terms before being able to use sQuid services for the first time our terms are completely accessible for all users at all times - the terms are always publicly available on our website www.squidcard.com and always available to view for users when logged into their account.

There have been no recent changes to the terms.

Fraudulently stealing millions

I and many parents were informed that sQuid, that is used in many schools across the UK, would be closing and that we had until the 15/03/25 to request balance refunds.
I'm still waiting, 27/02 requested, and when looking today I've seen that one request of £7 won't be processed because it is under their minimum balance of £10! After some internet investigation it seems like this amount has slowly been rising since around 2020 and conveniently is the highest amount right before they close themselves down. Apparently they also charge a £10 admin fee for withdrawal which means my other child's balance won't be received in full either and I will be out of pocket by around £17!
There are 1200 students in our school, if each child loses just £10 then they've made £12000!
These fraudsters are set to make millions.

Unfair and unreasonable T&C's / Admin fee

My child's school informed parents that a new payment system was being implemented and to withdraw/use any money before Friday 14th but then on Tuesday told it has been brought forward to that evening. Thankfully I only load up my account for the week ahead and my child decided to use most of the funds for food for them self and friends as when I went to request a refund I received an email stating no refund due as the balance was less than £10.01 and there's a £10 admin fee as per t&C's. If I wanted my child to be able to have a school dinner I had no choice but to use sQuid so no option but to accept whatever T&C's they decide. The information from our school didn't mention the limit or admin fee which makes me feel that sQuid didn't highlight this when pulling out of their contract with the school and very devious to bring the date forward from Friday to Tuesday. My child's school has over 2,000 pupils so even if only half had an account with £5 in then that's a lot of money retained under the guise of "T&C's" I would encourage anyone who has lost a lot of money to challenge sQuid for unfair and unreasonable charges ... how is a £10 admin fee justified when it's all online?! 😡

What a con!

Like many others, we have just found out about about the £10 fee. The headteacher emailed us in disbelief! Up until recently the system had all worked well so such a shame to do this to people with no warning. I hope the company is investigated and these charges are removed soon.

This is what sQuid told schools on the 24th February.

Schools should also inform parents that refunds must be requested before 14th April. After that time charges as set out in the Terms and Conditions may apply.

There all the school and parents were expecting to get there money back without charges.

Now schools are being told it was a mistake. They had 15 days to correct this but no they waited and didnt say anything.

They will make £4K out of my school alone. This company had thousands of schools signed up to them. Let’s just say 1000 schools are in a similar position to mine that £4M they are making. It’s an absolute scandal. The comments they are posting below says people knew the t&cs, its a shame they didn’t when mislead schools.

Disgusting Rip-off Merchants

Absolutely dsgraceful company who have defrauded me of £30. Our school are no longer using them but they are refusing to refund either of my children's balances, one because its less than £10, the other because they say it doesn't meet their T&Cs. They are conning parents during a cost of living crisis, absolutely disgusting.

I have £6.35 left on card as school no…

I have £6.35 left on card as school no longer using this company . Can't get a refund. Disgusting! Not our fault school is no longer using them. Everyone should get their money back. I missed the emails due to a bereavement and now they get to keep my money. I'm seeing if I can escalate this to an ombudsman or something. As on principle we should get our money back. I have tried to contact them but no response.

So our school like many others are no longer using squid school told to withdraw any money before Friday 14th I did this Monday ok was only £5 but it’s still my money got an email today saying rejected . It seems so have many other parents at the school most with more than £5
It’s not our fault squid is no longer in schools in uk so our money should be refunded regardless seems squid are gonna be making a whole lot of money today ……scam springs to mind

It's all via e-mail, which go ignored or at best get an automated response, this is so some chump in senior management thinks customers are being taken care of when in actual fact we're just getting an email saying "somebody may get back to you this year" (they won't) Avoid at all costs, companies like this deserve to get everything thats coming their way! Goodbye Squidpay, you won't last long with this "customer service"

Beyond Awful

I have literally just received an email from my child’s school, explaining that Squid will no longer be operating in the UK as from 14th March 2025. To be honest, I had forgotten about them because my daughter now uses another payment card. However, the email reminded me of the fact that the only reason I found a new payment card company was because her Squidcard was constantly being refused at the tuck shop, despite the balance being in credit!Having read other comments, I think I have gotten off lightly with a £20 loss. But it’s the lack of being informed directly by Squid themselves, that they are closing, that tells me this company doesn’t care about its customers. I tried to logon in the hope of a refund,I probably shouldn’t bother!

My son struggled to activate the card…

My son struggled to activate the card again after the second top up. I have emailed SQuid three times as advised but they have not answered at all . When we have a trouble with paying for the bus fare they told us to contact the bus company not them.
My money is trapped in pending position, my son has trouble to pay for it and was told blue won’t be able to get in the bus so we have to use another payment method.

So unreliable

I can’t tell you the amount of times I have enabled auto top up for my son to tell me there wasn’t enough in the account for him to buy lunch. It automatically stops for no reason. Today he asked me to top it up so I tried to put £30 on for it to continuously tell me there has been an error and throw me off the app. I am so pleased the school are changing to IPay in March and I won’t have to deal with squid ever again.
