I just found it very simple and straightforward

Renewing was easy and they gave the best cover for the cheapest price. It was over £100 cheaper when I called to renew than it was by looking on a comparison site. Customer service was great as well, very polite.

Purchased from them twice, once directly and once through money supermarket or some such. Haven't had to claim but seems good to me, and I believe they also have the option to have certain extra things covered (such as 'extreme sports') and adding this was made easy and clear.

I wanted to write a long review but I will make it very short Imy sister lost her glasses. we called to see what we get covered and to buy new one, on the spot but the guy speaking on the other line explain me a part of their terms that says, (something like) if you lose an item that you lost sight of then they don't cover. it's a bit hard to explain exactly what they wrote But in short They will never cover you for any lost property Because they have very clever terms that if you lost sight of the item Then they don't cover

How could you lose an item without losing sight of it??????

Great coverage and price. However claims are handled by a third party. As a result the claims experience is slow, impersonal, and has you dealing with systems that aren't really catered to Southdowns insurance claims. For example, my first claim was closed automatically because the agent mistyped my policy number, and there was no way to reopen it other than me manually creating a whole new claim and going through the trouble of re-entering all the information and documents, and then having to wait weeks for them to even look at it.

As a result most of my claim had to be handled by back and forths over email. With some of my queries being ghosted and having to be repeated.

The only saving grace is that my claim amount was small, otherwise I would be furious. In total, it took over 2 months just to resolve a £150 claim, I can't imagine if it was for thousands of pounds how most people would manage, let alone have the patience to deal with such poor service. Safe to say I'm not planning to renew.

Excellent customer service

I bought travel insurance for a recent holiday as it seemed reasonable and straightforward. I have medical conditions and declared them all. On holiday I had a minor accident to a finger, totally unrelated to any of my medical conditions, and had to see an urgent care centra, get an xray and get a couple of medications. That's it. (I jammed my finger in a car door by mistake) I came back before last xmas. I provided a very comprehensive set of documents, receipts for everything, medical reports etc. it consisted of 8 files in total. Each time they ask for some petty little point, which it is impossible to receive. I rang up and even the person in customer service said it was unusual to request so much information. This is through AXA, but I am totally disgusted by the ridiculous questions on such a small claim. I will never buy insurance from southdowns again.

This is the second time I have used Southdowns Insurance services . I do find the deals good and the coverage they offer is of a great variety.

It is now three years that I have been insured with them. I only ever had to put one claim through and have to say it was not handled well to start with. However, customer service and management intervened and turned things around showing understanding and a willingness to make things better. I am happy to know they can be trusted to recognise a shortfall and fix it.

Looking over some of the good reviews, these seem to be written from people who haven’t made a claim. The process was easy to buy the insurance, I’ve phoned them a couple of times and got through straight away. However, I want to make a claim. And this is where it starts going down hill. You are sent through to an AXA portal. I have entered my details and they cannot verify them. So I phoned AXA, all details correct. They are not sure why I cannot access the AXA portal. So I phoned Southdowns and they confirmed all details are correct. While I was on the phone I asked them where is the AXA call centre based. Mexico!!! There’s the problem, the line is not great, hard to understand. I had to phone them back in the hope to get someone else because I couldn't tell what he was saying. My annual insurance is due and I’m not renewing it. I have no hope for my claim after reading over reviews. I will take out my next insurance where there claims call centre is in the UK
