I stopped in an empty car park in Reading to pick someone up. I was there for 12 minutes and 15 seconds. I did not see the signage as it was dark.
I received a penalty notice with a fine for £60, which seemed excessive.
I appealed in the hope they would be lenient but ready to accept the decision of the appeal. They acknowledged reciept of my appeal, then I heard nothing until I recieved 2 letters, 19/04/24, from Debt Recovery Plus, saying the fine had gone up to £170 with 10 days to pay it. I managed to contact debt recovery by phone but they could do nothing, it is impossible to contact Smart parking on the phone. I have emailed them to complain and have just had an auto reply saying I will not have a reply for at least 7 days.
This company seems to operate a policy of entrapment. I am reporting them to the British Parking Association for breaching their code of conduct relating to appeals Section 23.8. anyone with similar complaints please complain.

VILE MONEY GRABBING SCUM AND THE ATTITUDE OF THE PARKING WARDEN WAS ATROCIOUS!!!

I parked at Willen Lake car park in Milton Keynes. They have cameras to show what time you enter the car park and when you leave you type in your car registration number into the ticket machine which then calculates how much you owe. I paid the requested amount and left. Two weeks later I received a parking charge notice which I appealed providing evidence from my bank that I had paid the requested amount. My appeal was rejected on the grounds that the machine does not calculate the parking charge and it is up to the motorist to ensure that the payment is for the correct amount of time. What is the point then of ANPR cameras operating the system? If I further appeal to POPLA I lose the right to a 50% reduction of the fine. Having read previous reviews here I feel that there is no point in doing so as POPLA is just as corrupt as Smart Parking. Interestingly Smart Parking does not recognise the independent ombudsman and you can’t make an appeal through them. I will avoid parking in any of their car parks in future.

i paid for a two hour slot, offered up my credit card, but the machine deducted 10p less than it should have. i did not notice this. i only parked for 1.5 hours. three weeks later they hit me with £100 PCN. i wrote a detailed explanation using the online appeals process. All their communications with me were in writing except for the Appeal Result - this was sent by email and lost in the junk mail. i have no evidence of receiving this. They now say i cannot appeal as more than 28 days have passed. When i contact Smart Parking they say it is with the Debt Collection company. when i contact the Debt Collection company they won't accept any talking - 'Pay or go to the Magistrates Court'. So i am awaiting a Magistrates Summons! This is a fraudulent dishonest company using every trick to trap and bully the innocent into paying large fines. mine is up to £170 now.

Both ticket machines were out of order and repeatedly rejected my credit card Tried to load Ringgo Parking app.but that failed. 10 minutes to pay had already ticked by. Left car park and drove half a mile to NCP

How can Smart Parking demand £100 when the fault lies with them.? An appeal has been rejected.
The price of honesty makes the whole debacle totally ridiculous. I'm so annoyed.
This company deserved to be exposed for their bullying tactics.
An Email reference "SmartParking" is winging its way to the BBC. Rip Off Britain and Panorama could have a field day.! 😭😢😂

I have been stung by Smart Parking once before so I am extra cautions when parking in there. I was last there on the 11th Feb and was out 10 mins under the hour. I received a fine from then stating that I had paid insufficient funds. Now I knew I'd paid so even if it was only 70p for the hour I was still covered by 10 mins. I knew I'd paid more so fortunately I'd paid on my card and found proof on my statement that I paid 80p for 2 hours so I was well covered. I have just sent off my appeal..How many people are getting stung by these greedy sly people? My advice to everyone is to pay by your card so you have evidence otherwise it's your word against theirs, also keep the receipt if possible

I have my parking ticket still in my possession and the time I entered the car park is clearly shown, however the time I left is not. I am scrupulous in my time keeping and I am sure I left at least 20 minutes before the allotted time was up yet the demanding letter says I was 18 minutes over the time. How can I prove otherwise other than to take smartparking at their word ! Do they not give any leeway to the deadline ? The number of dissatisfied and angry customers makes enlightened reading or does smartparking ignore these reviews ?
All this has served to do is to make me determined never to visit ANY smartparking sites in the future and to inform anybody I am in contact with to avoid this rogue setup at all cost.

AWFUL PROCESS , Help your customers! I have proof of Parking , sent this off and followed procedure and they say they will respond in 35 Days before confirming outcome.

Never replied , yet pass it onto a collectors as though I ignored the fine from the beginning , terrible terrible terrible

THIEF !!! In my opinion a scam company which is well supported by uncompetent organisation like POPLA. In their camera operated parking they calculate the time spent in the car park. They delibarately undercharge customer then penalise them for not paying enough when the customer do not have a choice but to pay what is demanded at the machine. DAY LIGHT ROBERY .... stay away from any of their parking !!!!

I paid 1.95 pence instead of two pounds for 2 hours. The machine accepted the change I paid, and I thought I could stay less than 2 hours. I left the car park in 90 minutes (30 minutes short of 2 hours). I got a letter 2 weeks later. I appealed first time on 26th Oct 2023 and just got an acknowledgment email. I appealed again once in November and December. All the 3 times just an acknowledgment message and not even a single reply. Got a letter from Debt Collectors demanding 160 pounds. I cannot understand why my case was sent to the Debt team when I appealed 3 times (with no reply from them), the case is on hold. I tried to explain Debt Collectors but they were rude and did not want to listen. Finally, I paid 160 pounds to them on 3rd Jan 2024. This week finally after 3 months, I got an email and letter from Smart Parking that they will give a discount of 45 pounds and stop the debt collection even though I already paid 160 pounds to Debt Collectors. Looks like Debt collectors have not updated the Smart Parking Ltd, that I have already paid. I have been given time until the end of this month to pay again even after paying.

I am not sure what I am going to do with this. Emailed the complaints team once again but they will never reply.

Never came across such worst SCAM in my life.

My 83 year old Father in law used a Pub car park to turn his car around following a medical appointment. Later that day he had to return. On leaving his appointment he again used the Pub Car Park to turn around as the road was narrow. He was issued with a Parking Charge as they claimed he had parked for several hours and not paid. In between these appointments he was at another medical centre, proving he had not parked. We appealed to Smart Parking and they upheld the fine. We appealed with POPLA and Smart Parking withdrew the Parking Charge. If I was a business wanting to use a Parking Company I would avoid this company at all costs. Shame on you, you money making scammers.

No worthy of one star, this company are ripping people left right and centre. Will avoid these car parks at all costs. Was sent a fine for driving into a car park tried to pay to park but the machine wasn’t working and no signal for the app to work. Appealed but it was refused without us knowing so then sent a debt recovery letter so paid it just to get them off our case, then received another letter to say it hasn’t been paid. Good job I screenshot the payment confirmation. But non the less I now have the stress of providing evidence for their competence. Scammers!

Avoid this company where possible because I received a £100 fine from them after parking in Howard St car park in Belfast despite being able to prove on a credit card statement that I had paid, I appealed but it was rejected. Parking Charge Notice: TC8326468A

Really disheartening. I parked in a carpark nearby an out of hours gp for my 12 week old son on a Sunday evening (out of hours) for a bank. It was very cold and my son was very ill. I was unable to find parking elsewhere and in order to make his appointment on time and avoid walking aimlessly in the cold with my poorly newborn, I parked there. Despite my appeal, it was rejected. No compassion and understanding, especially my plea surrounding the cost of living crisis and Christmas coming. Really disappointed to say the least. Have a heart.

Would give 0 if I could. My wife had parked in a bank using smart parking regulations on a Sunday evening when the bank was closed and the car park pretty much vacant. She had parked there as it was near a medical facility as our newborn 2 month old son was very ill and needed medical attention. My wife is not from the area so didn’t want to drive around trying to find alternative parking that could be far away from the medical facility on a very cold night. We also had a very ill 2 year old at home with me and I was also ill so naturally my wife had a lot of worries. Smart parking fined her and even on appeal with these extreme circumstances upheld the appeal and the lack of empathy in the email was horrible. A scummy company who do not even operate with ombudsman- says everything about them.

Disheartening to read so many decent families in the same situation. Faceless company. Useless contact details. Appealed. No reply. Surprise. Months later debt collector letter. Demanding almost three times the amount. Erosion of society because of companies like this. What is wrong with these people and how are they allowed to do this? Best to share and spread information of what is happening with family and friends. The appeals process for legitimate cases need to be heard and processed correctly. This company is a shameful scam that just demands more and more money irrespective of appeal or no appeal. Shocking and horrendous. Utter shame.

Parked at angouleme way retail park Bury, paid fee expiry time 13.43, got a pcn saying left at 13.02, appealed and was rejected. Now found ticket.
Paid fine, these thieves have extracted money from me fraudulently and now I will take proceedings against them

STAY AWAY from anything that is managed by this company. It isn't a honest company and disrespectful with their customers. They charge you for nothing, you raise an appeal with all evidences, receipts etc, but they just ignore, don't get back to you. Afterwards they hire a third company that charges you additional 70% of the initial fine, intimidates you to pay at the same day with a "discount", give you deadline and offer to stay in the line till you decide, and if you say "no" they threaten you saying that will be take as evidence of my intent not to pay. This third company called Debt Recovery Plus lie to you as well, acuse you that the appeal response from Smart Parking has been sent, but you haven't seen because it was in your junk box. Untrue. In the end of the day, you are inducted to pay as I did, then your rights just disappear, because It means you have accepted the offense, and it is also untrue, I do not acknowledge this. Furthermore, Smart Parking doesn't pick up any call, doesn't answer your appeal, do not inform the 10 digit code to raise an appeal to POPLA. It is a proper shame. One star because there isn't negative score.

Again I have contacted Smartparking.com in respect of the mistaken identity in respect of my car,pictured in a car park in Inverness!As they are not pursuing the case, they must have realised the mistake!Do they have the courtesy to admit the mistake?NO.The directors, CEO etc. must be very proud to be associated with such a shabby ,2nd.rate company.
