Requested a refund and responded quicky and efficiently. I did this via email and they were very fast to answer and followed up.

I completed the free trial and tried a couple of recipes and they were great, but I realised I wouldn’t use the app enough to make it a worthwhile commitment for me. Had an issue cancelling my subscription but staff were extremely quick to respond and resolve this.

Max was a superstar. I emailed early in the morning (like 5AM) and he responded promptly throughout the rest of the day to get my enquiry sorted.

OK, so I'm writing about my own experience here, but it might help someone else who has bumped up against Mob's "no refund" policy after inadvertently subscribing after a free trial.

I requested a refund after thinking that my trial was 7 days when it turned out to be only 5. The refund was refused on the basis that "When you started your trial, you agreed to your subscription renewing automatically"

Having been charged for a whole year, this seemed unfair and disproportionate, so I did some googling. I would like to point out that I'm no expert on consumer law, but I did learn some interesting things which I will share. Folks will obviously need to do their own research based on their particular circumstances.

Firstly I found out that the part of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 relating to subscriptions has been delayed to spring 2027, so unfortunately couldn't help me, however after a bit more research, I found that the existing consumer laws were actually sufficient.

Mob subscriptions fall under the distance selling regulations in consumer law which means that by default, I have an automatic right to a cooling off period of 14 days and a refund if I request it within this window.

But there is a catch...which is that if I consented to immediate access to the digital content during the trial, I have technically waived my right to a cooling off period. Mob appears to rely on this for it's no refund policy.

However, I learned that for the waiving of this right to stand in law, it requires explicit consent, meaning that they would have needed to draw my attention to it when signing up. Burying it in the Ts&Cs alone is not enough, especially when once you've signed you lose sight of them forever so are unable to refer back to or check what you agreed to.

Which brings me to my final point. There is also supposed to be confirmation of all of the conditions on "durable media", i.e., something that you get to keep. The only email I received was more like a marketing email. It contained no mention of the right to cancel, no model cancellation form or instructions, no acknowledgement that the cancellation right would be lost by accessing content immediately, no price, no trial end date, no statement that it converts to a paid annual subscription, no geographic address for the trader and no contract duration or cancellation conditions.

I should also add that the consequence of a trader failing to give the required information about the right to cancel, is that the cancellation period extends by up to 12 months. Happy days!

Armed with this knowledge, (although condensed to a few short sentences), I re-requested my refund which has now been offered and I'm waiting for it to arrive.

ps. when reading other reviews, I noticed that the person who responds to them is very fond of pointing out that folk are aware that they will be charged after the trial period ends. Maybe, but what they're failing to make clear is how long the trial period is and how much will be charged (I thought mine was 7 days, turned out to be 5). I only found this out by digging out the invoices in the app and calculating the number of days from the start and end date.

Dodgy, they don’t remind you that your free subscription is ending and even then you go on the app to cancel it tells you to go to Apple subscriptions. You go there and it tells you to go to them. Great concept but has left sour taste in my mouth.

Family have all enjoyed using the app to choose meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Recipes are easy enough for the teens to follow and cook. Shopping list is really useful. It has definitely removed the boredom of thinking what to cook. So far every recipe has been a hit, especially the marry me chicken orzo!!
Is a little pricey, but will definitely use for a few months and see if we continue to be inspired.
