J F Timber supplied us with some Canadian red cedar battens for our garden fence.

The quality of the wood was fantastic and the delivery service brilliant.

Really happy with our new fence.

I ordered over £1,300 of ThermoWood cladding from JF Timber in August 2025. Out of 61 boards, 14 were defective – missing tongues and grooves, splits through the profile, knot fall-outs mid-length leaving them unusable. Even the corner trim was damaged.

Instead of dealing with this professionally, the owner has:

• Claimed these are “characteristics” of ThermoWood (they are not – I’ve had confirmation from industry professionals and my architect).
• Contradicted himself repeatedly: first offering to replace boards, then refusing.
• Suggested I hadn’t ordered enough timber, despite me allowing wastage.
• Blamed me for storing external cladding outside (!).
• Issued a token £58.50 refund for the trim, while ignoring the main £400.19 claim.
• Even offered me £250 just to “go away” and retract reviews, rather than fix the problem.

His emails have been obstructive, contradictory, and at times personal and insulting. This has wasted hours of my time, delayed my project by weeks, and left me with no choice but to pursue chargeback and legal action.

If you value your time, your money, and your sanity — buy your cladding elsewhere.

Fantastic company what can I say. We've used them now a couple of times and every time they are insanely efficient at getting the product delivered. The western red cedar is just beautiful and wouldn't source from anywhere else now.

We were after some Cedar cladding for a garden room as a current project we are working on.
Samples we swiftly sent out to us for us to get more of an idea on finishes.
Decided on a finish and placed order.
Items arrive but not quite as ordered which really wasn’t an issue as had what we needed to get in with.
Contacted them and they were so apologetic and had the order sorted and out to us within 48 hours with no messing.
Best customer care and service I have experienced in a long time and full credit to the delivery team as the take great care with the product

Faulty goods ordered cedar battens size stated on James’s website as premium grade 38mm x 1.83 m I’ve been in the building industry for 31 years and have never seen timber like it the battens came all different sizes with broken ones and over 100 under sized . I called this man and he’s now telling me that I need to cut them to a smaller size and tells me that it’s a job lot he got from another wood yard that as gone bust and will not replace the battens
I’ve now contacted my league team and trading standers as this man clearly dose not understand the consumer act on long distance sales . I’ve also contacted my card company to get a charge
Back on the faulty goods . shocking service from this man not sure how he is still in business

Finally I told him I would leave him a bad review and he said he wasn't bothered

Amazing. Great price, great product, and one of the most friendly companies I have ever dealt with (both James on ordering, and their delivery driver).

Ordered some cedars batons from James , great personal service and the wood was top notch
Would definitely use again and gave some great advice about the oiling etc of the wood
