A great experience with First Flight
Nick is very professional and friendly. Communicated very well before our flight, keeping us updated as to whether we were likely to fly. On the day he and Steve were welcoming, and their friendly approach was good to settle my nerves, as I am not good with heights! The safety briefing before the flight was reassuring and Nick is obviously very experienced, which made us feel we were in good hands. The actual flight was wonderful, we saw amazing views across Bristol and the surrounding countryside with Nick pointing out interesting features. Sadly the winds were too light to carry us far, so we did not get to see further afield, but our flight was still a great experience. We also enjoyed helping pack up the balloon afterwards, and felt this just added to the experience. Also got to chat with Nick and Steve afterwards and it was interesting to find out more about them and their ballooning. This was a gift for my 60th birthday and I would highly recommend it, and the First Flight team. Thanks to you all.

Evening balloon flight
Absolutely first class experience.
Location perfect, extremely capable pilot and groundcrew who were also very friendly and funny. Great group of people to fly with, and the weather was perfect. A perfect way to spend an evening, would highly recommend Nick and Steve and First Flight balloons.

Somerset Flight over Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels - The guys had fabulous personalities which made the experience very enjoyable and the flight itself felt safe and the views were great. I had a lovely morning and really enjoyed my first UK balloon flight

First Flight from Glastonbury
We had a fantastic flight from Glastonbury across the Somerset levels towards the Mendips. Nick was a great pilot, always informative and very safety aware. The whole First Flight team were very friendly which added to a very enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely perfect experience!
Absolutely perfect experience from take off to landing. Nick and his assistant Andy’s (?) professionalism and humour really helping put us at ease, particularly considering that one of us had a fear of heights. We had a very smooth ride in perfect conditions and we hardly noticed the landing! Champagne and friendly chats with the landowner (whose field we landed in) rounded off a perfect morning. Thank you!

Whilst I completely appreciate that a cancellation is disappointing, particularly when you have travelled some distance for a flight, my primary responsibility is to ensure that every flight is conducted safely.
The screenshot you attached was taken approximately three hours before our scheduled meeting time and was from a generic weather app that links to our website. This is a guideline to the current weather and not a forecast for what will happen in due course. As I explained at the time, the concern was not the conditions at that exact moment, but the forecast deterioration during the flying period. Unfortunately, that forecast proved accurate, with black cloud, showers and gusty conditions developing in the area during the evening.
My decision was based on considerably more detailed meteorological information from multiple sources, including the Civil Aviation Authority-approved Met Office aviation forecasting service, rather than a consumer weather app. As a commercial balloon pilot, it is my responsibility to assess not only current conditions but also what is forecast to happen during the flight and landing period.
I understand that, from a passenger's perspective, it may sometimes appear that a flight could have taken place. However, ballooning decisions are made using specialist weather data, operational experience, and safety considerations that are not always obvious from the ground. You have received the photos of the black clouds and poor visibility in Bath at 7pm via WhatsApp.
You have mentioned the inconvenience of travelling to Bath and I do sympathise with that. However, when booking, it was made clear that ballooning is a completely weather-dependent activity and that cancellations are sometimes necessary. The location of our operation was also known at the time of booking and was your choice.
What I find particularly disappointing is the suggestion that the cancellation was unnecessary or dishonest. I have held a Commercial Balloon Pilot Licence for many years and have safely operated hundreds of flights. I gain absolutely nothing from cancelling a flight that I would much rather have flown. In fact, cancellations create significant disruption and cost for the business. The only reason a flight is cancelled is because I genuinely believe conditions are not suitable or safe.
This was your first booking attempt and your voucher remains fully valid until the end of December, so you have plenty of opportunity to rebook and enjoy your flight when conditions are more favourable.
I am sorry that the flight could not go ahead on this occasion, but I make no apology for putting safety first.

The communication from booking to flight was exceptional.
The pilot was excellent at keeping us informed at every stage. We felt very safe. our landing was amazingly smooth.
we had amazing visibility which increased the enjoyment of the flight.

A fantastic evening flight
I flew with Nick and the team on a beautiful Sunday evening over Chew Valley lake and beyond. It was an amazing experience and one I would recommend. If you are going to experience a balloon flight, First Flight are brilliant. The whole team were friendly and professional and Nick did a great job leading up to the flight with the updates, especially with a last minute change of launch site. Highly recommended.

Just tried to book my friends 50th…
Just tried to book my friends 50th birthday treat...flights were cancelled last year followed by a winter of bad weather...only to have to be told that it's a 12 months expiry and we should have read the small print. £400....wasted. They won't even entertain an extension.
And yes you contacted me right up until April the 26th ...with offers of flights that I was actually then unable to take.
Having purchased the tickets in September we lost 6 months of flying times...and aside for the 2 flights you cancelled I had checked on several occasions and found nothing suitable because of the weather. We were waiting for winter to be clear to be able to book again as we wanted an evening flight over cheddar very specifically.
You cannot put a 12 month expiry on a £400 voucher. Small print is simply a con. You should have printable voucher with the expiry clearly stated on it if you are going to be so specific.
I run a business with vouchers...they have no expiry...if someone pays for a voucher I would honour it.

Hi Emily, I think it is important that I add some context to the situation, as parts of your account do not reflect the records we hold, despite you editing your original review.
The vouchers were purchased on 5 September 2024 and remained valid for 12 months. During that period, you made two booking attempts, on 2 July 2025 and 14 July 2025. Unfortunately, both flights were cancelled due to unsuitable weather conditions.
As you mention, we contacted you on several occasions since, even after the voucher had expired to offer available flight spaces in an effort to help you fly. Whilst I appreciate those particular dates may not always have been convenient, there was nothing to prevent you from replying to those messages, contacting us directly, or using your booking portal to select alternative dates. Unfortunately, no response was received and no further booking attempts were made between July 2025 and your email today.
During this period we operated well in excess of 150 flights, so it is not accurate to suggest that weather prevented all opportunities to fly. We operate flights throughout the year, weather permitting, with flights scheduled morning and evening 365 days a year - so I am disappointed to hear that out of the 680 days of your voucher validity until now, that you could only find 2 to suit.
You have stated that you were unaware of the voucher expiry date. As I have explained, the 12-month validity period is clearly stated on our website at the point of purchase. Customers are then required to confirm that they have read and accepted our terms and conditions before payment is taken. In addition, a copy of those terms is sent separately with every voucher - either by email or post - which we ask passengers to read through before booking a flight date (these are printable and contain the 12 month expiry date). I therefore do not accept that the expiry date was hidden or unclear.
Whilst you are, of course, perfectly entitled to run your own business and voucher scheme as you see fit, it does not follow that every business must adopt the same model. We have been operating this system for over 35 years.
The terms also explain that vouchers may be extended free of charge where customers have made sufficient booking attempts and have been repeatedly cancelled due to weather. Unfortunately, that criteria was not met in this case.
I appreciate that you are disappointed and that losing the value of a voucher is frustrating. However, I do not believe it is reasonable to hold First Flight responsible for a voucher expiring where the validity period was clearly communicated and there was a prolonged period during which no further booking attempts were made.

Wonderful experience
I was a little nervous initially but after 10 mins of being in the air bobbing up and down it was fantastic! Nick was brilliant, light hearted to help settle all, very knowledgeable and skillful handling the balloon!
It’s worth a trip if you can! Flew over the beautiful North Somerset area out towards Weston! Beautiful morning a wonderful experience! Highly recommend first flight!!!

An excellent Pilot and a very nice evening for flying.
Pilot was very knowledgeable about the area we flew over; pointing out all the local landmarks and places of interest.
Landing was good and the after flight chat and drinks was brilliant.
