Fell for this also like the rest of the people. Sold my phone to we buy any phone and 3 weeks later a direct debit of £7 comes out !!!! Not aware of anything I’ve signed up to

Fell into the same scam through webuyanyphone - a tiny tick box that means this company start charging after a "free trial" in which they never email you or send you any details about how to redeem the "free trial". Be very, very careful when dealing with these people

Similar to others, I sold my phone to WeBuyAnyPhone and they appeared to have passed my account information to CyberSentry Global without my consent! They then set up DD in my account and took £6.95 which fortunately I have noticed, cancelled and recalled! I will never use this company again!

Automatically and unexpectedly signed up after selling a phone on WeBuyAnyPhone. I realised after I saw a payment of £6.95 to Cybersentry, which it turns out was the 4th such payment that was taken from my account. I have not once used the Cybersentry service or was remotely aware I had signup up for it. Sure enough buried on the 19th page of the terms and conditions of WeBuyAnyPhone, there it is:
“10. Anti-Virus and VPN Software Free Trial
We will provide you with a free trial of anti-virus and VPN software on completion of your online trade. The free trial will be provided by our partner CyberSentry Ltd within 10 days of your online trade request being completed.
The free trial will last for 30 days from the date you opt into the free trial. Full details are available here: www cybersentry com. This includes the terms for CyberSentry Ltd who act as agent for the anti-virus and VPN software provider and the CyberSentry Ltd Privacy Policy which outlines how they will use your data.
You can cancel the anti-virus software at any time from the date you accept the free trial by visiting https portal.cybersentry.com cancel
Please note that if you do not cancel the software before the end of the free trial period, you will be liable to pay CyberSentry Ltd. After the free trial, the cost of the antivirus and VPN software will be £6.95/month for the first 6 months, and then £14.95/month thereafter. These sums will be collected via direct debit. When you consent to receive the free trial, you authorise WeBuyAnyPhone.com to pass your bank details for the purposes of the direct debit to CyberSentry Ltd.”

When I contacted WeBuyAnyPhone they said to me:
“ Thank you for your email. In relation to your recent trade-in with us, you opted in for a 30-day free trial of McAfee Multi-Access + Unlimited VPN. CyberSentry on copy will be able to assist with your query.
When you completed at the checkout on the WeBuyAnyPhone.com website you agreed to their terms https webuyanyphone.com terms which includes signing into a direct debit agreement with CyberSentry for the McAfee product following the 30-day trial period.
Our terms are fully compliant with UK law, and by clicking the opt-in box you automatically enrolled in our program.”.
Ok…. fully compliant with UK law. That might be the case but it seems to rely on a certain amount of trickery to get people to signup without realising, since it’s completely unrelated to the original transaction of selling a phone.

Absolutely shocking! I have no recollection of signing up to this company but looking at the other reviews I did get a mobile phone around the time the direct debit started to this company. Definitely not made clear that I would have money stolen and receive nothing for it every month. Unfortunately I haven’t noticed the direct debit and have had over £100 taken. My bank said they can’t help as apparently they have a signed direct debit request!!! Emailed the company several times and heard nothing back.

If I could, I would give -5 stars. I sold my phone in February 2023 with this company. I recently discovered that since then every month an amount of first £ 4.95 and a few months later an amount £ 9.95 from a company called Cybersentry with a McAfee reference was taken out of my bank account via direct debit. After becoming suspicious and some digging, I found out that this was in connection with the sale of my phone via We Buy Any Phone. It turns out that as soon as you sign up to them and provide them with your bank account details, they automatically sign you up for a subscription for a VPN and Anti Virus with Cybersentry without informing you. They pass your details to Cybersentry and they start taking money out of your account. Even though on the very bottom of their T&Cs it is mentioned that they subscribe you to Cybersentry, they break trading standards. Strangely enough, the CEO of We Buy Any Phone (Alex Berthonneau) also is the CEO of Cybersentry. And even more strange, when I've cancelled the subscription with Cybersentry, I was sent a one time passcode and at the same time, I received an email from We Buy Any Phone with a one time passcode although I have not requested it. This company is scamming you and are fraudulent. I will report them to Trading Standards and I also will file a DDIC with my bank. @We Buy Any Phone, don't even dare to reply with a copy and paste answer. The Trade in ID #A-T-4K2RB and I want the money back that you have stolen from me. You obviously have my details which you illegally have used. I also found out, that even if you do not sell your phone with We Buy Any Phone and just sign up, they automatically pass your details including bank details to Cybersentry and the subscription with Cybersentry starts.

Looking at other reviews. Same happened to me. DD set up on my account. Cancelled before collecting anything. Disgusting. Never use we buy anyphone again.

Would give zero stars if I could. This is a we buy any phone scam. They give ur bank details to this company to setup a direct debit. Disgusting behaviour and I don’t know how this hasn’t been stopped already!

Another customer stung by the automatic sharing of bank account details between WeBuyAnyPhone and CyberSentry. By agreeing to the T&Cs of WBAP you agree to your bank details being shared with CyberSentry and the payments to be taken.
To make matters worse I didn't even proceed with the sale to WBAP as they low balled the offer.

Absolute scam. Will never use either company again as a result.

Total we buy any phone scan merchants, gave my details and this appeared not opted in or anything! Reported to bank and deleted

Scam artists.
Call your bank right away. Report we by any phone to trading standards as being complicit in the con.

SCAM

Spotted this direct debit today on my account, had no idea what it was from, a random 6.95 leaving my account for last 6 months. I went to sell a mobile a while back and added my sort code and account number so can only assume its a scam company on behalf of them. Fortunately, funds claimed back via DD indemnity claim.

As with other people, I sold a phone to we buy any phone and somehow this DD appeared. I never signed up to this and have reported to bank.

Absolute thieves as everybody has written below scammed into a mystery subscription that I didn’t agree to . Only fount out when money started leaving my account , some how connected to we buy any phone , steer

Huge scam! Sold a phone via webuyanyphone. Suddenly saw payments for this I never agreed to. Avoid the company!

It’s a scam! I sold my phone to we buy any phone and then saw direct debits coming out of my account which I never authorised! I’ve now cancelled the direct debit. Absolutely disgusting how many people they have victimised! Definitely will not be using we buy any phone again nor will I recommend them

Was mislead into a subscription bywebuyany phone.com. Suddenly money £6.95 starts to be taken from my account, be careful. It’s definitely not clear that you are entering into any subscription. However easy to cancel, luckily I check my current account outgoings daily and caught it early enough
