Avoid Boots Optician
I ordered a prescription glasses at Boots store in Kingston in person with a frame on Saturday 10th Oct around 5pm and paid by credit card.
On Sunday 11th October I went back around 3pm and requested to change the frame as I didn't think the original frame was high quality enough for a £324 glasses with expensive lens.
Given that it was weekend and nothing could have been made over the last 24 hours I thought this could be a just a paperwork change. However, the manager on the day was adamant that they cannot change anything as the order was made even though it was the weekend and I informed them less than 24 hours of the original order. Not to mention that the there is 2 weeks lead time to get the glasses.
The manager at Kingston couldn't be told anything and didn't want even to try to help in any way. So much for the Boots claim of “Complete Satisfaction Guarantee” which obviously is lots of BS.

Very Disappointed
Very Disappointed. Zero score. Haven't had time to check the law but close to routine mis-selling of retinal examinations. Mid August 26 I arranged an eye test at Coventry, Daventry Road. Clerk/ Receptionist was routinely offering a 3 choices of retinal examination up to £50 (observed with other customers). I went for the £50 as had previous retinal tear went through it and waited for feedback from her...none... and later from ophthalmologist.... again none. After he'd said we were finished I reminded him I had had the retinal examination. He clearly hadn't seen/checked it and was evidently surprised I'd gone for the £50 "Ultimate". I gave me some feedback... but this was purely by chance. Not impressed, wrote late that month to Customer care at Nottingham and got a reply with link to some FAQs and a reference number! No contact back since despite my reminders and evidently no investigation. Rival Opticians nearby offer same retinal examinations at less than half price and only offer the higher examination on Ophthalmologist's recommendation.

Emily was informative and decisive.

The staff were very helpful
The staff were very helpful, polite and professional however the computer system needs upgrading as there was an issue with the frames I was ordering.

Had a booked appointment
Had a booked appointment. I am 82 years old. When I arrived I was told that they could not guarantee that NHS would pay for my eye test. I walked out. They should not have made the appointment in the first place. I had to walk there with an injured foot. I do not recommend Boots Opticians.

Poor Service from Boots Contact Lens Scheme
I have been a customer of Boots Opticians for many years now but was very disappointed with the Service provided by the Boots Contact Lens Scheme where all the lens provided for my right eye over a 9 month period had the same expiry date. Consequently I am going to throw away over £50 worth of unused lens. I took it up with them but they were just not interested so I shall be changing Opticians for my eye test which is now due.
UPDATE (16th October 2026)
Boots Opticians Southend-on-Sea have confirmed they are unable to help resolve the issue and I have now asked to be taken off their mailing list as I will be changing Opticians.

Boots Eye Drops product Not worth it
Boots itchy & watery eye drops is a very bad product and not only didn’t help to the dryness it made it worst and so red and give me burning sensation.

Non existent customer service
So at the end of June purchased a pair of glasses and over three months later still haven’t received the advantage card points. The store said go to customer services, customer services said go to the store, the email address provided doesn’t exist or no-one can be bothered to respond. Now considering trading standards - absolutely ridiculous and poor customer service. Avoid this company

My husband had an eye test today at…
My husband had an eye test today at Boots opticians in Barnsley...we were welcomed by Simon assistant manager who was one of the nicest people we have ever met !!! He explained all about the different frames ..lenses etc picked frames that would suit his face and told us facts that have never been explained to us at any of our previous opticians and we have both been wearing glasses for years !!!....also a big shout to Reena the lady who performed my husband's eye exam ...he said she was really lovely and explained everything so clearly.So we are so glad we chose Boots opticians for our eye health....both Simon and Reena are a credit to Boots opticians and the Barnsley store.Thank you !!!
