I wish I had looked at these reviews before I booked. When I picked up the car at Zadar , the guy said there was only one piece of damage on the boot, on the initial inspection. However I spotted two inch scratch on the front bumper, which he did add to the damage log before I drove it away.
On returning the car, I had filled up before driving the short distance to the airport. the dial was 1mm off full and he said I owuld have to pay 50 euros or fill it up. I chose to drive to a local petrol station 7 ins away and fill up ( 7 euros). the man had already inspected the car before the fuel issue and said all was ok. on my return form the petrol station, he did another full check ( by which time I was worried I may miss my flight) and he spotted a 0.5 cm indentation on the door frame my the roof. I said I had not had any incident and it wasn't done during my hire. He asked if I had photos to prove it and I didn't. He charged my 600 euros as he said the roof would need o be replaced. I was very stressed, the paper work took ages and my family nearly missed our flight. The guy was rude, had no sense of urgency , even when I started to cry as I was convinced we would miss our flight. This was a total scam. I was insured and claimed it back, but I told the insurance company it was a scam. I hope they challenge the 600 euro fee for a 0.5 cm indentation. If you do use them, take pictures all over the car ( including under the sill) and take out enhanced insurance.

Attention piège à touristes manifeste.

Nous avons loué un véhicule l'aéroport de Split le 05.08.24 il était plus de 20h, jour férié en Croatie, barrière de la langue, l'équipe s'est empressée de remplir le contrat ...

Au retour de location le 15.08.24, nous avons eu l'ahurissante surprise d'une surtaxe de 600€ !!!

Et oui 600€, pour avoir franchi la frontière Bosniaque sans avoir prévenu l'agence de location ...

Malgré nos explications et nos tentatives d'éclaircissement, la société AUTOWILL nous traite tout simplement de fraudeur et d'avoir violé gravement les conditions générales de location !
Bel état d'esprit !!!

Certes, nous aurions du lire attentivement leur conditions car, à leur décharge, il est bien stipulé qu'on ne doit pas passer une frontière sans autorisation (ceci dit, nous ne savions pas en arrivant que nous irions en Bosnie).
Il aurait été tellement plus simple et commerçant d'appliquer la taxe prévue de 85€ telle qu'affichée dans leur locaux + l'éventuelle amende/pénalité de douane.
Mais 600 euros ... 600 euros ... que font-ils avec cet argent qu'ils volent aux touristes ????

Aucun geste commercial de leur part alors que nous n'avons pas souhaité faire opposition au paiement pensant gérer cela avec eux à l'amiable.

Le consulat de France en Croatie nous conseille de porter plainte auprès des autorités locales.

Nous avons fait hier, dès le lendemain du litige commercial, un courrier pour demander un geste commercial et surtout une preuve de la pénalité réelle de douane que nous ne refusons bien sur pas de payer car nous admettons notre tort ... bien évidemment, aucun papier officiel à nous présenter et ils osent nous répondre par mail que l'info des 600 euros était noté dans les conditions générales de location ... c'est FAUX, à aucun moment donné ce montant n'apparait.

Etant pressés avant hier matin car nous avions notre avion à prendre (couplé à une communication freinée par la barrière de la langue), nous avons fini par craquer et régler cette somme car ils avaient de toute façon enfermé à clefs nos affaires dans le véhicule pour nous obliger à régler … des airs de prises d’otage organisés pour touristes qui ne voudraient pas céder.

Nous allons donc entamer des procédures avec notre banque / assistance juridique / police car c'est du vol manifeste à ce stade.

Lisez les avis sur Autowill sur internet avant de réserver avec eux.

En résumé, société a fuir de part leur attitude à s'enrichir sur le dos des touristes.

Une famille déçue et un beau budget vacances bien amputé grâce à Autowill.

Die Abholung hatte gut funktioniert, über WhatsApp wurde kommuniziert, wann wir bereit sind, am Flughafen abgeholt zu werden und zum Mietwagenverleih gefahren zu werden. Das war auch schon das einzig Positive.
Der uns zugeteilte Mietwagen war allerdings schon ziemlich zerschrammt und hatte von Anfang an unzählige Macken, die wir versucht haben, mittels Fotos festzuhalten.
Bei der Abgabe am Abflugtag ging es dann los:
Zunächst wurde am Heck ein Kratzer festgestellt, der angeblich vorher noch nicht da gewesen war. Es wurde direkt gefragt, ob wir eine Versicherung haben.
Nach einigem hin und her wurde dann festgestellt, dass der Kratzer doch schon vorher da war.
Nach dieser Feststellung ging der Angestellte direkt nach vorne um uns einen weiteren Kratzer zu zeigen (vorher hatte er diesen nicht angemerkt), der unter der Frontstoßstange war und behauptete, dass dieser neu wäre und durch uns verursacht worden wäre.
Da dieser Kratzer nur zu erkennen war, wenn man sich schräg unter das Auto legt, hatten wir auch kein Foto davon.
Zumal schon vorher so viele Macken im Auto waren, dass es so gut wie unmöglich war, jede Kleinigkeit aufzunehmen.
Nach langer langer Diskussion und der Zeit im Nacken aufgrund des Anflugs, mussten wir nachgeben und 345€ vor Ort bezahlen, damit wir noch unseren Flieger erreichen.
Als Fazit kann man sagen, dass es sich hierbei um eine reine Abzocke handelt, um noch möglichst viel Geld rauszupressen. Dies sieht man auch den Bewertungen auf Trustpilot, was und leider erst nach diesem Desaster aufgefallen ist.
Alles in Allen nie wieder und ich empfehle jedem, einen Mietwagen wo anders zu buchen.

I had a reasonable experience with this company. I booked via carjet and took out fully comp insurance with them (carjet). I phoned from uk to ask for their price for fully comp which was more than twice as much as carjet at €90 for a week (not extortionate though) so didn't take it out, and any hidden extras. They phoned me back with info and were helpful. There is a charge for taking car on a ferry. There was no hard sell on their own insurance policy. The car was new, the staff member on pick up was friendly. I had good communication from them about drop off by phone and they met me on time. Slightly aggressive checking of the vehicle was slightly stressful but it was fine. If i had scatched the vehicle I'm sure i would have been charged.

I think the stress free option is to factor in the company's own fully comp insurance to the price of this car so it is a completely stress free experience.

Absolute bandits, returned car to the airport to fly home and the person meeting us was already pissed off because I estimated we would be at the airport earlier. He didn’t come to the office but I had to go back to the car where he was waiting. Same experience as everyone else 1 cm scratch below the boot which he was able to identify immediately even though the car was dirty and hadnt been cleaned in two weeks. Charged me £118 euros and gave some unbelievable story about how the cars needed to be returned to the lease company in pristine condition, even though we were given the car that already had scratches. Paid for extra insurance which appears to be with another company and when trying to claim the cost back I just get redirected to contact auto will again.

Смешанные чувства испытал после аренды автомобиля на стоянке рядом с аэропортом Сплита. Аренда автомобиля заняла буквально 15 минут, сделал несколько фотографий внутри и снаружи автомобиля,подписал бумаги, сел в машину и поехал отдыхать после тяжёлого перелёта. В этот же день с моего счёта были сняты деньги в размере 733.24 евро. В банке при закрытии банковской карты мне сказали что хотели снять всё, но не смогли. Этот осадок остался со мной до конца поездки. Я не могу утверждать 100%, но больше я эту карту никому не показывал. Вернул машину обратно на стоянку, девушка вернула мне депозит, сказала всё ОК. Отвезла меня в аэропорт, на этом и попрощались. Вывод если берёте машину в AUTOWILL - на банковской карте не должно быть много денег. В остальном остался всем доволен ! Взял чистую машину и отдал чистую машину с полным баком.

Der Autovermieter zockt Kohle systematisch ab. Am besten ein Video und Fotos aus alles Blickwinkeln machen. Die Zusatzversicherung für die Fähre kann man sich sparen, die greift nur wenn die Polizei kommt.

Eine junge Dame war bei der Abgabe sichtlich überfordert und ihr war es peinlich, weil sie diejenige war, die mir auch die Zusatzversicherung für 30€ aufgezwungen hat.

Also wir hatten eine und die hat nicht gegriffen, weil die 1mm große Stoßbeschädigung angeblich nicht von der Fähre ist.

Das AUTOWILL-Team hat dann einen Schaden von knapp 300€ festgelegt und ich habe mit der Chefin telefoniert. Keine Einsicht, nur Geld und Drohungen.

Genau mein Humor, Finger weg und lieber 50€ beim nächsten Vermieter mehr ausgeben.

Nie wieder AUTOWILL

Short version - they are another company who offer a seemingly lower hire fee but are then going to charge you excessive 'damage' fees for even the smallest scratch. That seems to be some rental companies 'business model' these days.

Staff were not exactly very friendly on picking up late at night as if we had kept them waiting trying to get out of airport (though maybe that's just the Croatian temperament which we discovered can sometimes be a little abrupt). On returning the car, the staff member combed the car and was on his hands and knees for some time.

They found 2 small scratches on the underside of the front bumper and said this would be a total of 170 euros fee (including an 'admin' fee). The evidence was a dark photo taken at night versus one on the day of return shown to us on mobile phones.

I could see several other scratches on the car that hadn't been fixed when we rented it. Not a a problem to me as I would expect small scratches on a rental car that is heavily used - especially in Croatia where there are many roads with loose stones and gravel on the kerbside.

It makes me highly suspicious that the money is actually used to fix the car and we were supposed to just accept the fee they read out from the computer. without any further proof.

From other reviews it seems it is a very common practice these days for this company (and others) to look for these kind of very small scratches and charge inflated fees for them.

To make things worse they claimed there was an unpaid parking charge and refused to refund the deposit until this was paid.

One small positive- the rep said we could pay the parking once and back in the UK and not trying to catch a flight - then deposit would be refunded. Once back we double checked the receipt we had been given and realised the date was not even for when we were in Croatia.

Overall I am left with little confidence that they are going to refund the deposit without lots of further quarrelling over this.

Sadly, whilst I would not recommend this company i've realised their behaviour is hardly uncommon amongst car rental companies.

Clearly it takes some searching to find a reputable rental company that doesn't try to grab profits through excessive damage fees and 'admin fees'.

Reinste Abzocke! Eine Mini Delle im Kennzeichen (war die vorher da? Wissen wir nicht) 600 EUR werden uns nun von der Kaution abgezogen. Und das anhand eines Fotos und per angeblichem Telefonat mit dem Chef in Zagreb per Ferndiagnose! Hände weg von diesem Vermieter!

Avoid at all costs! This dodgy company will charge you a fortune for the smallest scratch, mark, or dent on the car. They go over your car like a fine tooth comb when you return it.

I have added the picture of the car we rented with 670 euros of damage on it. Can you see that much damage to the car? Neither can I!

Do yourself a favour and rent with one of the more reputable larger car rental companies, and you won't have this problem. It may cost a little extra to start with, but at least you won't have to deal with this garbage.

Autowill ist ein Abzockunternehmen. Ein Tropfen Harz, der auf die Tür von einer Pinie getropft ist, hat dazu geführt, dass der Verleiher die komplette Tür neu lackieren möchte. Der Schaden wurde mir mit der vollen Höhe der Selbstbeteiligung 1050 Euro berechnet.
Ich kann jeden nur vor diesem Unternehmen warnen.

Très satisfaits de notre expérience avec Autowill Zadar ! Il s’agit de la seule agence acceptant les cartes de débit en Croatie. La location n’a pas coûté très cher. Attention à prendre en compte : un dépôt de garantie DÉBITÉ est demandé à votre arrivée, de notre côté il était à hauteur de 1200€ donc ayez bien cette somme à disposition. Faites très attention à la voiture car cette somme n’est pas remboursée si la voiture est endommagée (même une petite rayure). N’oubliez pas de demander l’assurance pour le ferry à hauteur de 30€ si vous comptez en prendre un avec le véhicule lors de votre séjour. Nous avons eu des frais supplémentaires liés au paiement par carte de débit à hauteur de 50€.
L’équipe est très accueillante et à l’écoute, nous sommes ravis d’avoir effectué notre location avec cette agence ! À bientôt :)

A la prise du véhicule, notre avion a eu du retard on ma proposé de récupérer le véhicule a 21 h ou lieu de 20 h moyennant 50 € .
Au moment de rendre le véhicule,ils vérifient scrupuleusement à la recherche de dommages à nous facturer .Pas de chance pour nous , ils ont aperçu un petit impact(éclat d'un petit caillou certainement )qu'on avait même pas remarqué. Je précise un tout petit point .
Nous facturer l'impact, ce n'est pas un soucis par contre le montant facturé est plus que exorbitant 550 € Cela fait cher pour 2 jours de location .Donc à fuir , privilégiez les grandes compagnie et bien lire les conditions .une chose est sûre ,je ne louerai plus chez eux .

Another ripoff experience.
upon checking in the car an immediate dive by the clerk of Autowill under the left front bumper revealed an invisible scratch underneath the plastic bumper.
Total cost EURO 522,62.

Be aware when renting a car at Autowill

Same issue as everyone else on here.
Straight away when we dropped the car off he went straight to both doors and found marks that we did not do but had unfortunately no way of proving it. Interesting how he did not even check the rest of the car!
We had to pay £420! There was no way we caused these marks but having 2 little ones we didn’t take the proper time to take pics when we got the car.
We also never got the damage record documents at the beginning so make sure you request these!
Very unhappy!

Lorsque nous leur avons rendu la voiture louée lors de nos vacances en Croatie, 2 salariés d’Autowill se sont mis à nettoyer la voiture avec leurs doigts, à la recherche de quelque chose à nous facturer. Ils ont fini par trouver une minuscule micro-rayure qu'ils nous ont facturée 215 €.
De retour chez nous, nous avons pris le temps de regarder attentivement les photos prises lorsque nous avions récupéré le véhicule au début de nos vacances. Et là nous avons constaté que la micro-rayure était en fait déjà présente sur le véhicule !
Nous avons donc écrit à Autowill pour obtenir le remboursement des 215€ qui nous ont été injustement facturés.
Ils n'ont même pas daigné répondre à notre réclamation. Un tel service client est A FUIR et à DECONSEILLER.

180€ für Versicherung von autowill bezahlt, da mit debit karte bezahlt. Macht aber überhaupt keinen Sinn. Wir hatten uns vorher bei der Bank informiert und diese Karte, die wir benutzt haben, funktioniert genauso wie eine normale Kreditkarte. Und das ärgelichste, wir hatten eine Versicherung über holidayautos bei AXA für 60€ abgeschlossen gehabt. Also doppelt bezahlt. Autowill ist eine reinste Abzockfirma.

Keiner hat uns im Nachhinein wirklich geholfen.

Und der Vermieter vor Ort bei autowill (Split airport - großer, breiter Mann) war sehr aggressiv, als wir nicht nachvollziehen konnten warum wir jetzt nochmal eine Versicherung zahlen müssen. Und zur Krönung war er auch nicht vor Ort, um uns abzuholen. Mussten dreimal anrufen. Obwohl auf dem Voucher stand, dass wir bei Ankunft abgeholt werden. Echt unfassbar. Standen mit baby eine Stunde am Flughafen.

Be very careful of this company ( at Pula Airport) Absolutely disgraceful customer service! Read below:

We hired online and paid extra insurance damage waiver, then picked up the car at Pula Airport. At the airport desk the company insisted that because we never used their own insurance (bought at the airport office) we needed a deposit of €1200. We didn’t have those funds available so they refused the car unless we took out there own insurance in addition (180! Euros) they would cancel the booking and wanted to charge for the whole week. We had no choice so went ahead and paid. We arranged to return the car at their office In Porec at an arranged date and time. Of the course the guy didn’t turn up at the arranged time (they are an An Opel dealership) I had a cab waiting outside, so A salesman in the office rang and spoke to the hire guy who then incredibly claimed we hadn’t taken out insurance (we had. Twice!) and threatened he would inspect the car in our absence and “send the bill even if there was a slight scuff on the wheels for €1200” !! I photographed the car, (no damage) and left the key and walked out. I was livid. On the way out, had a few choice words with the dealership manager - who it seems had heard this all before! Not the best way to start and end a holiday.

Ps they also do a 7/8 of a tank of petrol thing where I guess they know it’s hard to fill a tank back to 7/8 so most people will fill it up.

I had the same experience as everyone else. We are very honest people and would never lie if we had scratched the car. We had the car parked at the hotel all the time with no risk of having bumped it or being bumped but when we got back they charged us for a scratch that looks very old. We had to pay €460. Use this company at your peril. Lesson learned
