Zager Guitars Omdömen 

A couple of weeks ago I purchased the Zager 900 acoustic with the Sitka Spruce top. I have been following the Zager story for some time and really was very curious about the playability and the sound of your guitars. I was able to get one at a very good price since apparently you had used it in a promotional video. I consider that an honor, so I scooped it up. As a bonus, it included a year's worth of picks and strings, a Zager strap and a tuner. The hard case is top notch and the temperature and humidity displays are a nice touch. Great deal.

Last weekend I went to Sunset Beach, North Carolina with some of my guitar playing friends to enjoy the beach and play some songs together. I didn’t tell them anything about the guitar. I just asked them to pick it up and play it and answer a few questions. Here’s how it went.....

My first friend Steve, who has been playing guitar guitars for over 40 years was the first to try it out. His guitar of choice is a high-end Taylor model. I would classify Steve as a finger style player who is very concerned with the action, the feel of the strings and the ability to bend notes. His version of Angie by the Rolling Stones is absolutely beautiful. (and sounded great on the Zager 900!) Here is how Steve answered my questions:

What do you think of the playability? The Zager is very playable. The strings are quite comfortable, the action is great and I was able to bend notes with ease.
What do you think of the sound of the guitar? I think it has a very bright sound very similar to a high-end Taylor guitar. It’s a brighter sound than you might find in the Gibson or Martin. But the quality of the sound is quite comparable.
How much do you think this guitar should cost? $2500
Any other comments? The neck is a little wider that I am used to, but very comparable to your Gibson J45.

My next friend Bill, who also has been playing guitar at a high-level for over 40 years was the next to try it out. His guitars of choice are high-end Gibson and Martin guitars. (in the $4000-$5000 range). I would classify Bill as a hard strumming rhythm guitar player and a master at picking out notes cleanly. His version of "Sweet Baby James" by James Taylor is note for note perfection. When Bill picked up the guitar, he put it through the paces: Hard strumming, finger picking, bending notes, and moving up and down the neck. Here is how Bill answered my questions:

What do you think of the playability? This guitar is very easy to play. It feels great. I mentioned to Bill that I hadn't yet fine tuned the action. Bill's response - "I don't think you need to change a thing".
What do you think of the sound of the guitar? The sound is very good - similar to your Gibson J45.
How much do you think this guitar should cost? $1900
Any other comments? This is a very playable guitar. It feels great. If I would’ve had this guitar when I started learning many years ago, I would’ve been advanced much quicker than I did.

Finally now to me. When I was much younger I was actually a drummer. I didn’t pick up guitar until I was 45 years old about 15 years ago so I am not at the level of these guys and I would consider myself a rhythm acoustic guitar player with a medium level of competence. My favorite guitar is a limited edition Gibson J45. Here are my thoughts on the guitar:

What do you think of the playability? When I took it out out of the box, I made minor trust rod adjustments to lower the action to be more in line with some of my other guitars. After I did that I could not put it down!
What do you think of the sound of the guitar? The first time I strummed that I was absolutely amazed at the sound that came out of it for the price that I paid. I also think it has a bit more brighter sound Than my J45 but it projects very well especially considering it’s right out of the box and hasn't been aged like some of my other guitars. But I would definitely say it is comparable with my five year-old Gibson. I was even MORE impressed with the sound when I was on the other side of the guitar and my friends were playing it.
How much do you think this guitar should cost? This is not really a fair question because I knew the price. But I can certainly tell you that it’s worth more than I paid for it!
Any other comments? I cannot remember the last time I played guitar for about three hours straight with no discomfort at all. It was smooth like butter. I will NOT be taking advantage of the 30 day free return policy. This guitar will stay in my collection and be handed down to my children and grandchildren.

Denny, I recently got an email that you would be retiring soon. I hope you take time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your hard work over the years. You can be very, very proud of the quality of the guitars you have built over the years. I consider them works of art, with a lot of technical design touches and years of fine tuning behind them. This guitar is everything Zager said it would be, it's now easy for me to play a 3 hour gig with no finger burn! Also, it looks amazing, this workmanship on this guitar is as good or better than any guitar I have owned.

This guitar is what it should be and what you are looking for. The appearance is breathtaking, but I'd play a haggard guitar that sounds good before I'd recommend a guitar just because it looks good. Where my Zager ZAD-80CE shines is in the sound it makes and the comfort I enjoy from how it feels in my hands. The neck is a little wider than my old dreadnaught and the overall string spacing is slightly wider; for me, someone with large hands, it's like a breath of fresh air. I play longer and I play more often with my Zager. Relaxing after work, attempting new songs with my kids and having a quiet Saturday strumming my guitar are everything I was looking for when I was shopping for a new guitar. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. In addition to the sound and looks of my Zager guitar, I requested a serial number search and confirmed mine was built in Lincoln, NE. These guitars check every box. Enjoy playing more than ever with your Zager.

Perfectly happy with my 21 years old Taylor 714-CE, I watched Zager promo offers for a couple years before buying a ZAD900-CE vintage sunburst in July. It's a beauty with great tone and craftsmanship and "easy to play" as advertised.

I am in my mid 70’s and have had acoustic guitars since I was 13 but shamefully cannot read music. Nevertheless, many happy hours have been had strumming on my own or entertaining others. I have a moderate guitar collection and all have been purchased from ‘high street shops’, until now. By pure fluke I was reminiscing over my 60’s days and music I liked when I happened upon one of my many ‘milestone’ record memories - In the Year 25 25, by Zager and Evans. It took little research to discover that one half of the duo had been hand crafting guitars for many years. From then on it was simple to seek advice on how to procure a gem!

I soon realized. that I was not only buying a musical instrument, but joining a family. The care and consideration I received throughout the buying process was outstanding and beyond words. I thought that was the icing on the cake, but there were cherries to follow! The quality and finish on the guitar - outstanding. My ‘favourite’ guitar to this point had been a 12 string that I have had for 17 years. The built in harmony of the strings left all my others behind. Now I have been filled with confusion as my Zager 6 string presented wonderful tones that logically, (to me), should not emanate from a six string! Mr Zager’s, or should I now say MY guitar, is s masterpiece of engineering. BUT, it has presented me with a problem.. All my other guitars display on stands in my living room. I love this one so much that I want to keep it in its case!

After many months of researching and trying to decide on the right Zager guitar for me I settled on a ZAD50CE Mahogany. I had seen the ads for Zager and what drew me to them was the easy play feature. I have had an Epiphone for forty years but would stop as soon as I started because it hurt my fingers due to an injury I had.

My guitar arrived the other day and was even better than I expected. It is a truly beautiful guitar and the workmanship Denny and his crew put into making it is evident. The details are incredible.

What a great company and family to deal with.

I purchased the 2026 ZAD900CE natural finish and it was just delivered to my Texas home today (Aug. 3rd, 2026). After close inspection I found it to be beautifully crafted and absolutely gorgeous. The first thing I noticed is the guitar nested perfectly into the case protecting it from any kind of gorillas that it might encounter during transport. The top wood was exquisite and flawlessly finished. The purfling and mother of pearl inlay is just right, eye catching but not gaudy. Same for the Rosewood back and sides. Also, very nice touch on the gold Grover Tuners.

I couldn’t wait to tune it and play for a few minutes before checking things further. I hate to use this term but "I was blown away" by the rich tones, projection and overall quality of the sound. The fret board is also immediately notable at how much easier it is to play and hit notes. I hate to say it but I think my Martin, Yamaha and Takamine guitars are going to be gathering dust or sold. Lastly, I hooked it up to my amp to check out the Aura Pro onboard electronics. I set my amp up to emulate a 12 string and I was grinning like crazy.

To be truthful, I was hesitant to put money out for a custom guitar but your claim that people with arthritis would benefit pushed me to give it a try. Bottom line is that I could not be happier with the purchase so far. I think it will likely extend my ability to play far into the future without the pain I was starting to experiencing with my other guitars.

That said, I believe that Mr. Zager’s has designed and built a superior product to his competitors and I can see now how his business model must frustrate the corporate biggies. I paid ~$2,100.00 for the ZAD900CE with all the extras (case, picks, capo, tuner, leather stape, 3 sets Zager custom strings and lifetime access to the website lessons and topics). I feel they could charge twice that (or more) and I would still feel that I got my money’s-worth. I’m going to have fun putting my guitar up against the high-dollar hand-made $5k - $9K guitars (you know the ones) and watch their faces.

Anyway, I think Mr. Zager is a guitar genius and I wish him all the best. I love the buy straight from the factory business model; it’s a win-win. And thirdly during extensive research, I read you have separate “Easy Play” brand (Not the USA Zager Custom brand) that you have made for yourself so that you can give away a million bucks worth of good playing guitars to schools and less fortunate. I admire that so much and it says volumes about your work ethic and generosity. Actions like that brings great happiness and will actually change certain people’s lives for the better.

Please keep up the quality business model and encourage your family to never change it and thank you for a great value and product.

The easiest and consequently the best sounding acoustic guitar I’ve ever played … the combination of low action and the extra string spacing makes a 4 fingered c a certainty …., rather than a hope!!!!!
An affinity is felt as being from Lincoln England…. I could not resist a guitar from Lincoln Nebraska…… so glad I did …. My main stage guitar…. Would love a dark burst cutaway to add to the stable …..
A lasting note …. Other manufacturers and vendors could learn a thing or two from Zager … after my initial contact, Denny has contacted me several times to see how I’m getting on with the guitar…etc ….. unheard of elsewhere….

The Zager guitar I received is a beautiful instrument. It plays great and sounds amazing. The company was awesome from start to finish.

I purchased a Zager parlor recently during the scratch and dent sale. The repair was so expertly done i couldn't see any sign of it even knowing where it was. the finish is flawless and the sound is unbelievable. it plays significantly better than any other acoustic guitar, and also many electrics that I've tried over nearly 25 years of playing. everything from the setup to the fret finishing and even their made in-house strings it comes equipped with is perfect. Combined with their customer service and support as well as the value for your money, I could not recommend Zager guitars more.

At the end of last year 2025 I purchased a ZAD 900 CE but when I got it, I had a problem with the pick up so I sent the guitar back and they didn't bother to just change the pick up out instead they sent me a brand new guitar which I've had since then and to tell you if your thinking about buying yourself a great Acoustic I would definitely recommend that you try a Zager right along side a Martin, Taylor of Gibson. I have played or owned them all , and of them All I recommend the ZAD 900 CE as the best playing best sounding of all I have ever played. Hands down. I absolutely love mine.

With my ZAD80CE, I can play material I could never play before! It truly is an Easy-Play instrument. The easiest to fret and chord with. I can spend hours playing without stress or pain. Ive been playing since 1978, and this world class acoustic guitar sounds better acoustically and through PA better than any guitar Ive ever owned...Its beautiful to behold and gets attention when Im on stage with it! Even the free student guitar I recieved plays better and easier than most brands.I love my Zager!! The people at Zager are responsive and the online help I get learning how to make this guitar last lifetimes is wonderful!

My 900CE is an amazing instrument. The detail and finish can not be properl;y protrayed online or in videos. It was so much better than I expected and I have played most everything at one time or another. Also it sounded much better than I expected a Fresh Guiitar to project. I won a ZAD50 in a Zager Guitar Giveaway contest, and truth be told, this is the most beautiful guitar that I have ever owned. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is excellent, and the sound is mellow and full. It's a dreadnought: lightweight and comfortable, the string action is fast, the neck is slim, and the Grover tuner knobs turn smoothly and accurately. Simply stated, it is a joy to play.
