Had a horrible time here

I had a horrible time here - there was lots of systemic issues and procedural rigidity. Had I not been literally forced by my parents, I wouldn't have come here at all. The uni accepted me into Pharmacy despite being unfit for the course, as I had numerous health issues, learning difficulties and grades far below the criteria (Ds and Es). My forced application in clearing was dragged out by the admissions team for a month, causing extreme stress at home and contributing to escalating abuse.

I told staff I was forced, they initially offered support then mostly failed to follow through and a few months later they got angry I was still there and pressured me to leave as my health and attendance declined (I was struggling to do assignments due to my learning difficulties and placements/exams were coming up, but still unpleasant nonetheless).

I had to deal with manipulative flatmates (one of whom threatened to punch me if confronted), and a dispute was handled unfairly (with possible racial bias) which caused me ongoing stress living there. They offered 2 other empty rooms to move into but neither were suitable for my health needs when shown.

I felt they handled my situation very poorly, during meetings staff made multiple inaccurate (and sometimes offensive) assumptions, harshly interrogated me about my health & personal situation, and eventually I was given a 2 week deadline to leave and go back to my abusive household. This caused me acute stress including symptoms like heavy nosebleeds and dizziness.

One of them said something like 'it wasn't their problem' what happened to me after that, knowing my background. I tried to tell them I didn't feel safe due to my parents’ ongoing behaviour but the way they reacted made me think they didn't want to hear it. Except a cleaner on my flat corridor, none of the staff provided consistent support, academic or otherwise.

I had to make a really difficult decision of either going to a shelter or going home in a short time period, and chose home due to logistics. I regret coming here, it was a waste of time, money and I experienced further trauma. They never should've taken me in to begin with. Even after leaving, they’re taking their sweet time processing my refund, which reflects the same lack of organisation and care.

In sum, they took me in as an unsuitable applicant, then treated me like a liability and pushed me out. To all potential applicants, please apply somewhere else. Read the other negative reviews, and you’ll see a pattern.

Balanced Experience – Positive Support and Quality Teaching

I’ve seen some negative reviews about this university, and I wanted to share my own experience to offer a more balanced perspective.
I’m currently enrolled in the MSc Psychology programme and have completed four modules so far. Personally, I haven’t encountered any of the issues mentioned in those reviews.
The tutors have been consistently present and supportive, and I’ve received regular monthly check-in calls, which made me feel well supported throughout my studies. The educational materials are also of a good standard—clear, structured, and appropriate for the course level.

Of course, experiences can vary, but based on my journey so far, I’m satisfied with the quality of teaching and overall support provided.

Avoid! Was the most terrible experience I had.

My experience with this University was deeply disappointing.

A one-week delay in payment resulted in my entire Master’s progression being postponed by years. Despite repeated attempts to obtain clear guidance, I received inconsistent information and no meaningful flexibility.

During a documented medical issue that affected my ability to engage fully, I encountered procedural rigidity rather than understanding.

In one instance, a lecturer escalated a formal concern because I did not use her academic title correctly in an email, despite my medical circumstances at the time. The response felt disproportionate and indicative of misplaced priorities.

Overall, the academic delivery often relied heavily on reading from slides rather than engaged postgraduate-level discussion.

For the level of financial investment required, the support, communication, and academic standards fell significantly short.

I cannot recommend this institution.

Terrible admission process

I’m very disappointed with the University of Wolverhampton’s application process. Although I received some communications, none of them provided a clear or direct answer about the status of my application. After two months, I’m still left without proper clarification.

I have called numerous times and each time I was either passed around, given vague information, or told to wait, with no real follow-up. For an institution of this size, the lack of clear communication and accountability is extremely frustrating. This experience has caused unnecessary stress and reflects poorly on the university’s admissions service. Based on this experience, I would not recommend applying here.

Very Disappointing Experience with the University of Wolverhampton

I had a very frustrating experience with this university. They offered me a CAS shield and asked me to pay my tuition fee as soon as possible, which I did. After paying and applying for my UK visa through UKVI, the university suddenly withdrew my application, claiming that all seats were full even though they had confirmed my place earlier.

What’s worse, they kept my fee for over three months without processing a refund or giving clear communication. They do not reply to emails or answer calls, and it’s almost impossible to reach anyone in the admissions or finance departments.

This kind of unprofessional and careless handling of international students is extremely disappointing. I would strongly advise future students to be very cautious before making any payments until you have full written confirmation of your place.

Very poor quality support

Very poor quality support, online distance learning has no contact at all except when they want money. Avoid at all costs distant learning with Wolverhampton. MSc Psychology, 2 months to mark course, ignored replies to my requests to confirm I’m continuing Nov 25. They said they sent emails but I had nothing until I called, the they said they sent an email but nothing arrived checked Uni emails and personal emails but nothing there after confirming this on the phone. Now I received 22/09/25 email stating I received a postgrad certificate, but I’m doing 2 modules in Nov 25 and already paid for dissertation in summer 2026. Need to contact the authority that monitor quality of university work for distance learning. This university hits the top rating for inability to even take distance learning students, their money and lack of lecturers that support them. No contact at all but by email.

I studied Illustration

I studied Illustration, graduating in 2010. Reflecting on my time there now, I realise how little actual teaching or preparation we received. Most of the course consisted of being given vague briefs and participating in group critiques. There was minimal—if any—structured teaching on illustration techniques, the industry landscape, or how to market yourself as a professional. It felt more like being left to sink or swim than being guided or taught. At the time, I didn’t fully realise how underprepared I was until I entered the real world and had to figure everything out myself.

Deeply concerning behavior

Although I'm enjoying the online course contents, the assessment procedures are deeply concerning.

They claim to have a 'marking proforma' to assess assignments but when that same proforma is entered into AI models and asked to assess assignments, the results are VERY different from the university and they're always lower. One of my assessments was ranked 50 points lower from them than it was from ChatGpt, Perplexity, DeepSeek and others.

Obviously I expect there to be SOME difference between AI and human assessments, 50 points is proof they are not following their own marking criteria.

Considering they charge for the course again if it's failed twice, this is highly suspicious behavior.

When I've reached out to them to express my concerns, I'm met with, ironically enough, AI like robotic responses that dismiss my concerns.

This University needs to be avoided at all costs and should be investigated for fraud and exploitation.

Wolverhampton Civic Hall ( David Gray Concert 2025)

We went to see David Gray in Concert here.It goes without saying that he performed the absolute best,so did his band also Tulia Gray & co brilliant.This review is about the excellent customer service in visiting here.Grace in particular was throughly amazing & she made our Concert night (as well as D G & CO)the most fantastic best experience.Much thanks Grace/Civic Hall :-))

Making a formal complaint to regulation board.

No support for SEN or disability needs. If you do get support, the uni is very hard to contact and often confusing. Their modules and lectures are just 15 minute videos, some of the videos don't event work and you have to download a transcript to read (not great if you have some SEN needs)

The academic support staff/lectures etc. are very hard to contact and very rarely respond to messages/emails/questions. It took a lecturer 2 weeks to respond to a question about an assignment.

It is self led, which works well for me and my academic ability, but you should be able to ask questions and have a response, you should be able to access the online content efficiently. A few weeks into the course, the uni was hacked and all online systems were down, we had not support for this and nobody to contact. When you're teaching online, the content should be supportive enough to assist with online academic study, the materials should be there to support. However, with the MSC in psychology of mental health and wellbeing, there is little online study materials to support you. Many of the books in the online library are inaccessible.

When taking to support teams at the uni, they have called me names and called me a liar when their own module payment system stopped working. I have been triggered in to meltdowns because of stress, my hair has started falling out, I can't sleep. The resources and materials are simply not up to standard.

At this point, I feel I've exhausted all my options and I have really lost the love for my subject. I am deeply regretful that I enrolled onto this course.

Not good at all.

You have to pay for your masters BEFORE you start BY PRIVATE MEANS

I’ve applied to do a masters with them and as we all know it takes half an hour to apply for student finance, which I’ve done. I then got an email yesterday
“In order to be part of the next cohort of students, you must pay for your first module/modules by 31/12/2024, or your offer will be withdrawn.
Please note, if paying via Student Finance, this is not released until after commencing the course, so the initial module fee for the first module for part time or two modules for full time, will need to be funded via other means”
So they expect you to pay thousands before you even start and put the phone down on you went you ring after 10 minutes.

I applied for and was accepted on the…

I applied for and was accepted on the MSc Psychology Mental Wellbeing course to start January 2025.
However, I can no longer go ahead with enrolment as my circumstances have changed. I have called and emailed several times over the last few months to inform them, but keep getting 'complete your enrolment' emails.
The lady I spoke to on the phone said the agent who'd handled my enrolment was on leave and would contact me when he returned. Is he still on leave? She also said my cancellation had been actioned on the system, yet the emails keep coming.
This is causing me a lot of concern as I don't want to be billed for a course I cancelled months ago.
I'll definitely avoid in future if this is how poorly they communicate!

I enrolled into the MSc Psychology and…

I enrolled into the MSc Psychology and Mental Health online course. It was an utter disappointment and I left after one module.

There seemed to be such an emphasis on meeting the accreditation requirements of the BPS that anything outside of that doesn't appear to be assessed, including most of the social psychology content we had been asked to learn. I did not feel reassured from a discussion with the faculty that this wouldn't be the same going forward.

In terms of communications, the teacher/student comms processes are chaotic. There are discussion boards on lots of pages, emails, all person emails. I contacted the teacher and student success on more than one occasion and didn't receive replies. If the processes were streamlined, then maybe this wouldn't happen.

The delivery of live skills classes was poor and the information in terms of instructions inaccurate. An example of this being where the course lecturer gave us inaccurate information about the assignment during the live class and again in response to a discussion board question after. I appreciate that mistakes happen, however, this should've been checked before making the mistake twice. I did not feel reassured that this won't happen again.

When I met with the faculty lead, I was told this was new and so also a learning experience for the course teachers, however, the faculty lead also said that 3000 people (including herself) had taken this course. I would, therefore, expect that these sorts of errors would've been addressed.

On a more general level it does seem that this course is just a lot of slides, a lot of reading and some very basic pre-recorded content. It is a lot of money for very basic and low quality teaching.

I wouldn’t recommend this course. I did complain and didn’t get my money back so I have decided to share this on here because I do not want others to find themselves in the same position as I found myself in.

Disability Support Nightmare

I went to the University of Wolverhampton in 2018 who were in partnership with the Academy of Music and Sound, I got absolutely no disability support and no support due to the fact that I was also a carer at the time for my dying dad. They were happy enough to take best part of ten thousand off me and I have got nothing in return.
I have recently tried to contact them as I supposedly did receive some accreditation for my work but six years later I am still waiting. After trying to speak with the centre manager in October and being ignored, I am now seeking legal advice.

Tried to fob me off

I studied here 2013-2017. My experience was very underwhelming. Absolutely no support was given and I ended up having to resit a year due to a combination of mental health issues and total lack of support with my studies. Because of my struggles, I ended up only getting 320 credits. I looked up their table of awards and discovered that 300-340 credits awards you with an ordinary/unclassified degree - yet they tried to fob me off with a certificate of higher education. I spent a full year fighting for what I had earned, and only when I threatened legal action did I suddenly receive my degree in the post about a week later. They have removed themselves from the university rankings for a reason - because they were consistently last place for multiple years in a row. I only went to this university because I live in the Black Country and it allowed me to stay home near my partner at the time. I was accepted to York and I wish I'd gone. Absolutely AVOID this university.

as a student of the university of…

as a student of the university of wolverhampton i can say that the support here is next to Nil. The university and their tutors to not respond to emails (apart from two i could name) , do not communicate and certainly do not help their students. the call help desk are clueless with most enquiries and do nothing to help and the technology and university portal is a disgrace in that it gets hacked to the point students lose their modules days before their exams and nothing is done about it. there is no sense of urgency for a students career.
i have been a student studying an LLB course and i got a lot of support at the beginning.
I then graduated and began a legal practice course which is self funded. Since i have joined this course which we fund, this is where i have noticed the decline in support and attitude and it is clearly monetary motivated. i have registered for exams to be told less than 24 hours that i am not sitting the exam and given no explanation. I have emailed multiple people, called help desks and have received no response via email and no information or help from the ask help desk. All i want to do as a student is graduate and get a job and it’s almost like the university don’t want me to, they just want to stop my exams and keep me for as long as possible, suffering and stressing and entering more financial difficultly. I would say it was good, but since Covid i would say avoid the univerity of wolverhampton at all costs. Don’t waste your time and money as they certainly won’t waste theirs on you.

I recently applied to do my foundation…

I recently applied to do my foundation pgce at university of Wolverhampton however under the conditions that I do my maths gcse. I was advised by my teachers advisor to ring admissions to see if I can get discount on any gcse tests. (at this point I was ready to book my maths gcse but there was no harm in asking to see if I can get it cheaper.) anyways so I rang admissions they then said no they don't have any discount however the informed me that I can just do their own equivalency test instead. so after going back and forth with them for like a month I decided to do that instead. 2 weeks ago I was emailing my tutor and told her that ive got everything ready and I'm just waiting to do my equivalency test. she then responded back saying that they don't accept this test. after this I rang admissions they said they'll sort this out and today they've told me that they can't accept the equivalency test, even though they said they can. what's worse about this I rang admissions again to complain about this and the lady over the phone said that they do accept it. so admission clearly don't communicate with the course tutors and the University admissions clearly not run well. this is ridiculous and I'm frustrated by this and I would not recommend anyone to apply and if you do, do not bother with the admissions team as they clearly don't know what they are talking about. all I'm gonna get for this is a apology which isn't really going to help me. yes I know i can apply again next year but I will not apply to Wolverhampton University.
