They charge you $66 if you incur a fine when you had the car regardless if you are prompt paying the fine. I got a parking fine and now it’s $66 straight into the pockets of SIXT for doing f*** all.
It’s just an opportunity to take more money from customers. Greedy corporation.
Rented a car on 30th May
Rented a car on 30th May, car requested was not in stock, car given was dirty, hold on cc for deposit, to be returned in 3 days max, over 3 weeks later, still waiting for hold to be removed and have had money deducted again from my account for hire and tolls, plus a letter to pay tolls directly to linkt, not to mention the non existent customer service, when entering building, women was on her phone and didn't look up, had to wait for gate to be opened by her at Melbourne airport, surprise, on her phone again and had to wait for her to be ready, someone else noticed and had a go at her, so unprofessional, never ever again
Offered an EV, then withdrew the offer
I booked an Atto 3 from Sixt to be picked up at Brisbane Airport on 23 May and returned on 30 May. I included questions about charging cables which were not answered. On 21 May I was phoned by Sixt to say they could not provide an Atto 3 or indeed any EV. When I asked why, they said that Sixt was "selling all of the EVs in its fleet". So I cancelled the booking and managed to book an EV at short notice through Turo. At least Sixt gave me 47 hours notice, but an earlier notice would have been appreciated.
Don't use Sixt in Europe
Don't use Sixt in Europe. They're a complete rip off.
Amazing service
This refers to Sixt Port Douglas Queensland Australia.
Reasonably priced and nice car, prompt service from a lovely lady working in the office who appeared to be doing literally everything on her own. Car worked well, didn't consume much and drop off was a breeze. Thoroughly recommend this branch, in particular.

I came to SIXT in Carlton with my mum three weeks ago to hire a car while hers was getting repaired and they were so helpful and accommodating to our needs and very patient with us as we had to extend the lease for an extra two weeks. They are very professional, they helped her out a lot and I highly recommend them if you ever need to hire a car especially so last minute. They are pretty reasonable with the pricing and explained what’s included in the contract. Thank you to the team at SIXT in Carlton, if we ever need to hire a car again we will definitely be back.

Beware of the mystery car
Hobart Airport: Booked a mystery car "extraordinary coupe" and was offered a BT50 ute approaching 3 years, 90,000km, with no tray cover. Deliberately false expectation, seemingly to achieve an up sell (was offered a BMW X5 for $40 extra per day). Really, really disappointed with Sixt and parent NRMA - money isn't the issue, it is the deceptive tactic I'm annoyed about.
I understand the business preference to get vehicles moving if they haven't been used and the "vehicle determined at pickup" disclaimer, but a 4WD ute is a long stretch from a coupe. My suggestion is book what you want and avoid the mystery car in case it doesn't suit and you're left with more out-of-pocket & chance for what else they have available.
Staff member was very personable.

Abysmal facilities and unprofessional service
I had an appalling experience at the SIXT Perth Domestic branch today, April 22nd. After a four-hour flight from Melbourne, my family—including two young children—was forced to endure a collection process that lasted an hour and 40 minutes. It was a failure from start to finish.
The issues were extensive:
• Extreme Wait Times & Understaffing: We arrived at 3:15 pm and were only second in the queue, yet it took one hour just to complete the paperwork. Only one staff member was working, and a queue of 11 people formed behind us during that hour.
• Logistical Failures: After finally finishing the administration, we were forced to wait an additional 40 minutes for the vehicle to actually be delivered. Incredibly, all 11 people who had been behind us in the queue received their vehicles and departed while we were still standing there. When I enquired, I was told our assigned car was 'dirty and being cleaned.' It is nonsensical to provision a car that isn't ready when other vehicles are clearly being processed.
• Unprofessional Staff Attitude: When I expressed my frustration, the staff member simply shrugged his shoulders and asked, 'What do you expect me to do?' He then further trivialized the delay by saying, 'You wait for takeaway, you wait for Ubers, so now you have to wait for this.' Comparing a professional car hire service to a fast-food transaction is insulting.
• Abysmal Facilities: The waiting conditions are a disgrace. In the Perth heat, there is absolutely nowhere to sit. While there is a water dispenser, there were no cups, leaving my children with no way to hydrate while standing in an unsheltered terminal area for over 100 minutes.
To spend nearly two hours standing in the heat with children, only to be met with dismissive and rude comments, is completely unacceptable. Avoid this branch if you value your time or expect basic professional courtesy.
As usual the hire process was seamless
As usual the hire process was seamless, the car park team did our contract on the spot to allow us to directly pick up in Cairns rather than need to go into the terminal to do this. The truck we hired was pretty clean and drove well. Condition of the truck was good and served our needs. The return process was also easy and quick. We rent from many operators and SixT have always been reasonable in costs, friendly staff and reliable vehicles.
Terrible company
Terrible company. Making false damage claims from insurance! Never to rent again with them ! Very dodgy company when it comes to claiming damage insurance. Be warn everyone and be careful with them
SCAM
SCAM
I am extremely frustrated with my experience at SIXT.
I had fully prepaid and booked this reservation 2 months in advance, yet on the day of pick-up in Nuremberg, we were told for the first time that the car could not be driven into Budapest — something that was never disclosed anywhere in the booking, emails, or prior communication. If we had known, we would never have booked this.
We were then refused the vehicle entirely, with no alternative and no real help, and simply told to contact customer service ourselves. Our entire trip depended on this booking.
With no support, we had to arrange a last-minute train to Munich, causing stress, delays, and extra costs. At the Munich branch, we were forced into a walk-in booking, paying €2,462 for 4 days for a Volvo XC60 — compared to €1,830 for 10 days originally. The financial loss is obvious.
Customer service provided no meaningful assistance.
Absolutely unacceptable — I would not trust SIXT for important travel plans.
Hidden Trap in SIXT's "Zero Excess" – They Void Insurance Over Common Mistakes
Hidden Trap in SIXT's "Zero Excess" – They Void Insurance Over Common Mistakes
If I could give zero stars, I would. I want to alert all international travelers about the deceptive practices at SIXT Toowoomba. I rented a vehicle with "No Deductible" (Zero Excess) protection, specifically paying extra for peace of mind.
I had a minor collision due to a momentary judgment error while adjusting to Australian driving conditions. Instead of providing the coverage I paid for, SIXT sent a formal notice claiming that because of this error, I had breached their terms and my entire insurance protection was VOID.
Immediately after, they issued a loss assessment demanding a staggering $14,893.90 AUD.
The issue is clear: If SIXT can void "Full Protection" for a standard traffic mistake, then the insurance they sell to tourists is a total scam. They take your premium for "protection" but abandon you and demand five-figure sums the moment an accident happens.
Wait, there's more: Their own Assessment Report initially showed a $0.00 Balance Outstanding, yet their claims department is still pursuing me for the full amount!
I am currently disputing this through the AFCA (Australian Financial Complaints Authority). Tourists, please be extremely careful—at SIXT Toowoomba, your "Full Insurance" might mean nothing when you actually need it.
Very dissatisfied with their service
The original car we hired needed to be replaced half way through our road trip south of Perth. Sixt responded well and had a vehicle shipped to our location which we appreciated. We were guaranteed that our rental agreement would be updated, however, a few days after returning the vehicle we were issued an infringement notice email which was for a period prior to taking possession of the new vehicle. Despite our efforts to contact sixt immediately to advise them of their error, we were charged the admin fee and our details were provided the the state authority to issue the fine to us. I was unable to speak to a customer service officer, the phone cut off after 5 mins wait time, so could only communicate via email. I have emailed sixt advising them of our dissatisfaction with their service with not one response provided.
Thieves plain and simple
Thieves plain and simple. I have NZ$250 owing to me and NZ$1,108.74. I have used this company twice and both these amounts are from the two separate transactions.
Neither have been returned in over 6 weeks despite the company stating it would be within days, many emails from me and phone calls.
They lie, they pass the buck and the ignore. RIP OFF, use someone else.
Friendly staff & prompt service
Be careful
Be careful, if you are booking and paying for a vehicle upfront to hire in Australia, their website might display in USD (even though you don't even live in US) despite other sites being able to automatically quote in local currency (converted for better consumer experience), and it's not clear that they are displaying in USD, which is misleading. Their customer service via email is very slow and uncooperative and they will harshly enforce not refunding the full amount if you don't cancel on their website within a 24 hour window ... emailing them to query any discrepancy first clearly doesn't count. This is not how a customer-friendly company does business.
No show in time means you lose your money
Due to delays I could not pick up the car I had rent at Perth in time. The next morning, early, I phoned Sixt what to do. They told me that if you want to pick up a car a day late they consider that as a 'no-show' and that the contract is cancelled. So I lost almost 400 euro! They advised me to go to the office at the airport, to figure out what they possibly could do for me. I went there, and they told me that the car I had hired was not available anymore. Not very likely, because only a night had passed. They only had a very big car, for 7 persons (I travelled with just 2, needed a small car). And because it was so big I had to pay 120 euro extra. I felt swindled, but had no time to look for alternatives.
I wrote a week later a review on google reviews, gave one star, because this is no way you should treat a customer. They responded, if I gave my rental number they promised to find a solution for this matter. That is already four weeks ago, and I did not hear anything from Sixt. Very bad service, no respect, too.
Very bad experience for us
Very bad experience for us. We rented a car and the staff persuaded us to take full insurance so that it will cover for all accidents. We took full insurance. Unfortunately we met with an accident. On return of the car, the Sixt staff reassured us that all repair costs will be covered. A week later we received a letter saying we have to pay the full cost. I requested for a re-review, which they declined. Do not trust Sixt. I will never recommend them to anyone.
SIXT - incompetent or malicious?
I booked a utility four-wheel drive with Sixt yesterday to pick up today (31/3/2026). I was planning to do work moving equipment as part of an urgent job.
Around an hour and a half before the pickup time, I received a call to say there were no utes available. Sorry.
How can a company not know what stock they have!! Was there another customer who they preferred or is SIXT just incompetent?
Now I need to ring to say I cannot do the job. Thanks SIXT.

Visited today to get my hire car at the paramatta road concord business. Very polite professional customer service by staff member Surina. All information was easy to understand and I would recommend getting a vehicle from there.
