Dogs left in empty flat, RSPCA not helping
I am really dismayed by the lack of help from the RSPCA over a very serious case of animal abuse and neglect.
We first contacted them a week ago about two dogs being kept in a totally unoccupied partially windowless empty flat. It has no utilities and the owner does not live in the town. Owner visits are rare and brief.
Following a fire previously at the flat (same owner, when it was occupied) the dogs were found in appalling condition - filth, masses of clutter, severe neglect.
We can now hear one dog, which cries all night and the sound is growing weaker and more pitiful.
The RSPCA initially said it no longer carries out welfare checks and we would need to prove that there is at least 24 hours between visits which we don't have the technology in place to prove.
We called again the other day and they promised an officer would call us back because one animal now can't be heard and the other is weakening. But no-one called back. I have taken temporary accomodation because the pitiful sound of the dog's suffering all night is too disturbing, and it continues literally until dawn. The RSPCA is an organisation that I respected and trusted but the animals are being badly let down and potentially left to their fate.

Pidgeon trapped
A pidgeon was stuck in the netting of a building in liverpool and we phoned the RSPCA, it took 10 minutes to get through to someone, and then was left on hold again just to get told we had to call the council and they could not help. By the time they told us we had to call someone else that pidgeon couldve died or lost its leg. Their one job is to help animals and they left it almost 30 minutes to actually tell us they couldn't, and even then by the time we finally got through to the council they also told us they wouldn't help.

If I could rate it a 0 I would. I noticed a horse deadon a field this morning. The horse next to it was chained up and clearly very distressed. I decided to call the RSPCA for help, but was met with a very rude woman on the phone. She told me I need to go over to the horse and see its condition. I told her no, it’s not safe to do so because I’m disabled and the other horse is very distressed. She told me that the field is very large (it’s not) so I need to provide her precise details. I said if they could send someone out they would very clearly see the horses condition. She then told me that they are very busy and I again need to approach the horse or call the local town council. Her attitude continued again repeating how busy they are and that the area wasn’t coming up on her system. Absolutely ridiculous advice to tell someone to approach a distressed horse. I was told “I know you’re very upset about the horse” to minimise what I was saying. Very disappointing care from the RSPCA.

Crabbing Vs boiling lobster?
Attempting to ban children from “crabbing” what about restaurants boiling lobsters alive????
Children don’t intend any pain towards crabs…
Can the same be said for chefs/cooks and patrons of restaurants?

Thanks for your message, we share your concerns about lobsters and crabs used in the food service. We absolutely do not agree with lobsters being boiled alive, and have campaigned on this specific issue alongside the team at Crustacean Compassion [https://www.crustaceancompassion.org/news]. We are pleased to see this practice is likely to be coming to an end soon.
Our recent work encouraging people to reconsider crabbing is based on a growing understanding that crabs, lobsters are sentient and have feelings too, and we are encouraging people to treat them with kindness, compassion and respect.

It all went very well
All the staff we encountered were clearly passionate about the animals they care for and made us welcome. The questions asked of us were reasonable (we have experienced a more 'aggressive' assessment process with another agency many years ago.
We were given plenty of time to ask questions, spend time with our prospective pet, introduce a grandchild time the date of adoption to suit our other commitments and engage with care staff to clarify the animal's history and needs.

Although the RSPCA is very busy, as we all know, due to all of the cases they have to deal with, they still got back to me quite quickly when I had a query. Sent me some info too, which explained what I needed to know about what supermarkets were selling RSPCA assured meat, which is very important to me. So thank you for both your advice and your time.

Supported to help a trapped animal
I called RSPCA for advice about trapped animals. The operator was very supportive, tried their best to help me and gave me realistic advice given their limited availability of resources. I was directed to local organisations one of which managed to help and resulted in the animals being freed. Thank you

Is it for the animals or just the money?
I have a great house with a nice garden. I have one dog that is super friendly and loves every animal and human. I applied for a dog. Filled in their endless form. It said, if we don't contacted you assume you have not been successful. What sort of a response is that? I did not get a response in 2 months.
Reply to their reply -
There were multiple dogs I was interested in. The form obliged me to choose one. I was looking for an older dog, so I'm sure there was not a queue. Are you there to find good homes for animals?

Some animals like puppies and 'fashionable' breeds receive a huge number of applications. So our branches can struggle to deal with demand, which is why they may give advance notice that they won’t be able to get back to everyone who applies. Much as they’d love to respond to everyone individually, sometimes their limited resources mean they must focus their time and energy on looking after animals in their care instead.

Reported German Shepherds being kept in…
Reported German Shepherds being kept in the back of cramped vans in small cages for more than 24hrs a day in a security firm. Called RSPCA they said as long as they had food & water there's nothing they can do. I think about those 2 dog's every day. That was a year ago. 😔

When dogs are left in vehicles, conditions can become dangerous very quickly. If a dog is showing signs of heatstroke or distress, we always recommend calling 999 straight away, as the police can act immediately and have the powers of entry we don’t.
If the dog doesn’t appear to be in immediate danger, we advise monitoring them, trying to locate the owner, and contacting us for guidance. You can find clear advice on how to help a dog in a car on our website, including what to do in both urgent and non-urgent situations.
If you ever have concerns again, please do continue to contact us. We’re here to help, and we truly appreciate your support and compassion for animal welfare.

I am appalled that the RSPCA have a tv…
I am appalled that the RSPCA have a tv advert for help off the public. I rang them 3 times last month to help me re home a pregnant cat she was on her 3rd litter of kittens all within 12 months. My neighbour had abandoned her.
They said they couldn’t help even though she was heavily pregnant and I was feeding her & giving her shelter somewhere warm ! I would have kept her but I have 2 cats and a dog who thinks cats want to play all the time so I was in an impossible situation. I told the RSPCA she was ready to have her kittens and I was worried she would be on the streets when she went into labour. The lady told that happens all the time in the UK were cats are giving birth on the streets. I am disgusted with the reply she gave me.!
They do not deserve any donations. This isn’t the first time I have asked these people for help. I found a kitten in the park under a tree with a little can of cat food at the side of him and when I rang the RSPCA & also the cats protection I was told they could not help. The little kitten still lives with me 3 years on and the pregnant cat is now in a new home and very happy ready to give birth to her kittens very shortly.
I do not know how the RSPCA have got the nerve to ask any of the public for help because when the public need help from them they dismiss any help.

This funding is essential: without it, we simply couldn’t reach the animals who rely on us or sustain the frontline work our teams carry out every day.

Thank you for your review and sharing your concerns about RSPCA Assured. We truly value hearing from people who care deeply about animals.
We have been working to improve farmed animals’ lives for 200 years and we know that change in this area is difficult and it is slow, but we have made a difference to millions of animals’ lives through legislative change.
The difference between minimum UK standards for farm animals and RSPCA Assured standards is huge, and without the scheme, millions of animals on farms right now would have worse lives. However, we agree we need to fundamentally rethink our food system if we are to achieve the seismic change we all want for animals in the future.
We cannot ignore the realities of society as it is now, but we all want change to go further, faster. That is why we continue to drive up standards, why we are campaigning for a significant reduction in the number of animals farmed and the amount of meat, fish, dairy and eggs we eat. We don’t see eye to eye on how to achieve this, but we believe that by setting ourselves against each other, there are no winners.

Are you kidding me??? 250 dogs rescued from a breeder because ‘ it got out of control’ and ZERO PROSECUTION BROUGHT BY THE RSPCA?! The rspca has always been woeful but this is a new cherry on the cake, how anyone can give money to an ‘animal charity’ that takes zero action after TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY ANIMALS ( DOGs ) HAVE BEEN HORRIBLY NEGLECTED ( intentionally) can not be worth donating to.
Needs shutting down and money going to real animal charities that actually care.
RSPCA response will say they care yet the prof is overwhelmingly against their lip service.

Absolutely horrendous. I ve reported to incidents concerning ponies and both times they can't do anything about it. Awful service don't help when it's needed.

Crap charity, DO NOT DONATE TO THEM
Crap charity. DO NOT DONATE TO THEM! I've tried for 4 weeks to get an answer from their online chat reporting service to always be met with being informed of no advisors being available. When I did get an answer some months ago, they wouldn't even take dogs living within an environment full of drugs / cannabis seriously and ignored it, would you believe! DO NOT DONATE TO THEM!

Congratulations
At this point just shut your organisation down. You are no longer qualified to call yourself ‘a charity for protecting and caring animals’, doesn’t even deserved to have ‘Royal’ in your name’. Phoned the hotline wanting support regarding a sick stray and not only got bombarded by donation messages, which is the only thing spca cared about, but received the response of the year from the phone operator as quoted ‘you only called because you don’t want to pay vet money to heal the cat’. without even understanding the full story. What an answer that was, doesn’t even have the basic human decency. This organisation is a national disgrace. Branding spca a clown show would make much reasonable sense than ‘charity’.
