I won a Hummer on auction for 6k from Richard Maze. I was at fault for not reading the terms properly as I was hit with another 39% buyers premium on the second invoice after I'd paid the first. Alway... Se mer

BEWARE — advertised warranted mileage totally false, hidden registration and a £4,096.94 demand for a vehicle plus threats of massive late penalty sent everyday to me
My experience with Richard Maze & Co has been extremely terrible, and I would strongly urge anyone considering bidding with this auction house to read the small print very carefully and do their homework before parting with a penny.
I bid on a Renault Trafic advertised with the headline “ONLY 55K MILES!!!” and “WARRANTED MILEAGE 55193.” That is a very specific representation, and it was a significant factor in how the vehicle was presented to potential buyers.
The problem? The registration number was obscured in the listing, and the photographs did not allow me to check the vehicle’s mileage independently before bidding. Once I won the auction and received the registration number on the invoice, I checked the official MOT history. This showed the van had recorded 93,201 miles at its MOT on 14 May 2025 — a substantial difference from the 55,193 miles advertised.
I contacted the auction house promptly, before paying for or collecting the vehicle, because I was not prepared to proceed without an explanation for such a significant discrepancy.
Rather than reaching a reasonable resolution, the response I received relied heavily on a reference to “Possible VOSA Mileage Discrepancy” and on the auction’s trade-only terms and conditions. In my view, a warning buried in auction notes does not sit comfortably alongside a headline proclaiming “ONLY 55K MILES” and “WARRANTED MILEAGE 55193”. Buyers should not have to guess which part of an advert they are supposed to believe.
I registered and bid in my own name, and I was buying privately. I was not aware that this was being treated as a trade-only auction. Nevertheless, the company has continued to maintain that I am bound by the sale, despite the issue being raised before I paid or collected the van.
The situation has escalated to a demand for £4,096.94, accompanied by threats involving daily late-payment charges, a statutory demand, court proceedings and further enforcement action. I find this an astonishing response to a dispute I raised promptly over the mileage information supplied in the listing.
. I found it increasingly intimidating at the payment demands and the ignorants to the underlying issue about how the vehicle was advertised.
What has particularly disappointed me is the apparent lack of willingness to acknowledge why a buyer would be concerned when a vehicle advertised at approximately 55,000 miles has an official MOT record showing more than 93,000 miles. Instead of a straightforward, fair discussion, I have been left dealing with escalating financial demands and threats of legal action.
My advice to anyone considering using Richard Maze & Co:
- Check every available detail before bidding, especially the full terms and conditions.
- Do not assume that prominent wording in an advert tells the whole story.
- Be aware that the company may rely on auction notes and trade-only terms if a dispute arises.
- Keep copies of the advert, photographs, auction notes, invoices and every email.
- Understand exactly what you could be committing yourself to before placing a bid.
This review reflects my personal experience .
I would not defiantly not recommending this auction house based on my experience. The discrepancy between the advertised mileage and the MOT history, followed by the handling of my complaint and the demand for thousands of pounds, has completely undermined my confidence.
Potential buyers: please do not use this company and if you do pls do your checks, keep your evidence and think very carefully before bidding.

These con-men would get no stars if it was possible. They got £6500 out of me for nothing and they used autobid to keep running my bid up for a vehicle. I didn’t even win the auction and then they message me saying I have 24 hours to pay a ridiculous 49% buyers premium on top. They are scammers and thieves!! Avoid at all costs before they dissolve and try to scam more people!
Superb service and professional staff.

Avoid - DON'T Buy from these
I won a EV car off Richard Maze & Co on the I-bidder auction site, the description suggested it was a fully working car with full service history.
I got an invoice what I believed was the full amount of just over £4000, including VAT once I paid that I was hit with another invoice for nearly 1/2 the cost, which I had to pay VAT on again, so in total it cost around £6000 for a car I had won for £3000
When the car arrived, it had no rear brakes, and ABS issue and wouldn't charge, and the 12V battery was knackered the service history book was missing, the passenger front tyre had to be replaced, with a 12V battery and there was a crack in the drivers side bumper.
When I checked the images, these two had been photoshopped to make it look like there was no damage.
When I queried Richard Maze & Co, they refutably denied that any images was photoshopped, I asked for proof of the service history, they sent me an image of the service history book, when I asked for a refund, they hit me with some Trade ONLY terms and conditions, which turns out to be a loophole they hide behind.
I tried several times to get the serive history book from them via email and phone, not one response from them via email and all I got was they would investigate where the book is, to this date I still haven't heard anything or received the book.
In the end I had to sell this car on at a loss, I wish I had seen these reviews, before committing to bidding on the car, I would advise you NEVER to buy or bid on anything from this company.
Most unethical auction company to deal…
Most unethical auction company to deal with. Website has no T&C’s listed, T&C’s on sites like bidspotter mention several different applicable charges and only states a range of commission %’s (15-49% + VAT) Actual charges are noted in yet another place.
They operate a 2 invoice model, the first with the hammer price and a reasonable admin charge, the second with the most ridiculous buyer premium, out on any auction site we have ever seen.
The additional charges on delayed payments and storage are also very high. Their model relies on consumers having an assumption of trust in reasonable business practices.
They profit solely by taking advantage of those who don’t read all the small print and then take great pleasure in pointing them out while simultaneously threatening legal action.
Unfortunately not doing anything ‘technically’ wrong, but i’m sure if challenged properly - their due-diligence on “only selling to trade” and “unclear charging model” could be brought into question.

Another auctioneer conman praying on people who don't read the fine print! If you buy on their site or on Bidspotter etc READ THE ADDITIONAL CHARGES as you will be liable for over 50% of the bid price in fees! And crazy cancellation charges. AVOID!!

Worst company auction ever to deal with robbing people of there hard earned money
This company is nothing but scammers, they sold me a car at a price and then added these fees on after I paid the invoice and then said I have anther invoice to pay which I had no acknowledgment off until I paid what I bought the car for, secondly I asked the boys at the auction was car driving and all ok yes car perfect, then I had to get the money to pay for second invoice of xtra £4k nearly, and then got car home on lorry and car was pushed off the lorry wouldn’t start wouldn’t turn over put new battery in her and had to get recovery to mechanics and now the engine has be blown, and not one description off the car was non runner r engines problems cause if they had of said that I wouldn’t of bid on car and the fees also put extra £4k on top of price, pure scandalous what this company is doing to people and I’m a victim of this also, the sooner these people are held accountable the better cause they can’t keep getting away with this.

To be honest in Uk and this company is…
To be honest in Uk and this company is allowed to scam people openly. Same as everyone I never read reviews on after l had paid first invoice. Got first invoice and told once I pay I would get details to collect car next day. Quickly paid and after 10 minutes got another invoice for 4600£ for 39% charges and tax. I was told to cancel I would loose 4700£. Daylight robbery. I got threats to pay by 5pm or I get more charges. They have my 7800£ and threatening more charges. They have cancelled my membership.
I wish i read all these reviews before…
If I could give them 0 stars i would. I wish i read all these reviews before buying anything from these scammers. I won a car on ibidder they called me telling me that i had won the car for 4000 with vat it came to 4834 wich i was happy to pay I sent them the money and tried to arrange delivery thats when i got hit with a second invoice for 2600 ehich i protested but they hit me with the terms and conditions on their site which are waaaay waaay at the bottom i chose to cancel and i only got back 2300 out of mh initial 4800 i paid this is the scummiest scams i have yet encountered in my life and for it to happen on Christmas eve today my family’s Christmas is ruined.
Most shocking auction experience ever
Charges are on the bidding page, one set of charges are in the fees tab but a devious second set of charges are hidden behind a grey button. They will send an invoice for the first set of charges and once that's paid a second invoice for the hidden fees arrives. All facilitated by Bidspotter and i-bidder. The car had a gearbox issue not mentioned in the description. I'd recommend to stay away from these scammers.
“I recently bought a vehicle from…
“I recently bought a vehicle from Richard Maze Car Auction and had a very disappointing experience. The car/van I purchased had multiple faults that were not disclosed at the time of sale, and I was later hit with hidden charges that were never explained upfront.
The lack of transparency and honesty is unacceptable. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company and would advise others to avoid buying from them.”
How to turn a £1100 auction win into…
How to turn a £1100 auction win into over a £2600 spend....
Just buy from this bunch and be held hostage by their 2 invoice policy and bank transfer only payment.
Luckily and thankfully i checked the reviews for this bunch.... Strangely no google reviews anywhere online for them ... But good to see their on trustpilot.
They don't make their charges very clear.... I've used auction houses for decades and never seen this type of thing ever.... Don't get caught out by it on bidspotter.
Every other review is 100% accurate.... Send WhatsApp for an initial 500 etc...
I pulled the purchase and now their threatening legal action already via a phone call with Patrick.
Good luck with that👍
They are a bunch of crooks
Just to update you on my previous review,
The Peugeot Expert i bought at the auction i repaired the water leak as i said for £800 only to find now i have driven it for 30 miles it overheats and the garage tell me the head gasket needs replacing, which im told will be between £2600-£3000. The advised option s to have a reconditioned engine for£4000. As you can see this company is one that you should not touch with a barge pole. My advice is don't bid because even if the reserve is not met they ring and say your bid has been accepted and that is when your problems start. vehicle had no paperwork one key no spare not original wheels no jack or wheel brace no tyre inflator everything from the van had been, removed not even the owner manual. STAY AWAY
Do not buy! Richard maze!!
They advertise very cleverly, they say read description for fees. In my case 785+vat. Then recieved another invoice for buyers premium of 39% and then the 20% overall vat. £8000 to £12600. Advert states that it runs and drives, doesn’t state with 1 turbo blown, and harsh jumping gearbox. Lucky to get home!!! Now looking at £5000 in repairs!! There attitude stinks, they threat with courts! Yet they are the ones having us over!! Do not buy! I repeat do not buy! They use I-bidder and another platform. Between them they are majorly out of order. When I buy from bca or copart, they tell you, runs and drives but!! They don’t hide anything! This company however will take the eyes out of your head for £5
