I been for years and talking someone…
I been for years and talking someone and they cut her off no warning. Then few years I go kick off to many times of me trying get back on with no reason. I complain to them and it automatic saying we looking into it. Took me months to get back after I figure what true password was. My profile was still there. Now they asked for a new profile on there site saying it is being in use of course they never sent a reset to password. I am sure I am fighting a computer. I am sure they 5 million users.

Hi Jo, getting blocked before you even had the chance to leave on your own terms is a rough first impression, and I am sorry. That fast block is an automated call, and it does land on people who did nothing wrong, which is the whole reason an appeal exists. Use the appeal link on the account and it goes to a real review that can undo it. This reply is later than it should be.

Zur Frage, warum wir nicht prüfen, wer sich anmeldet, ein ehrliches Wort. Wir führen gerade eine Foto-Verifizierung ein, einen kurzen Video-Selfie-Check mit einem verifizierten Abzeichen, und man kann einstellen, dass der Erstkontakt nur von verifizierten Mitgliedern kommt. Das ist freiwillig und noch im Aufbau, ich behaupte also nicht, dass jedes Profil verifiziert ist. Zusätzlich lässt sich ein Foto gegen das Web abgleichen, um gestohlene Bilder aufzudecken, und Meldungen lösen automatisch eine Entfernung aus. Entschuldigen Sie, dass diese Antwort spät kommt.

The ban itself is an automated call that can be appealed, and the appeal on the account reaches a real review that can undo it rather than a dead inbox. The invalid operation you hit when accepting the conditions is a plain bug, not something you did, and that should not be blocking anyone from getting back in. Site banned me after 4 days of use for 'suspicious activity'
Emailed multiple times asking what's up, no response.
Like so many others, spent hours recreating profile and reconnecting with people, lost all messages.
Lots of fake profiles with AI photos

After 1.5 years, they re-enabled my account.
I HAD submitted various appeals, but they went unreplied until now.

Hi Emagin, a suspension four days in for suspicious activity, with the emails going nowhere and hours lost rebuilding what you had, is a genuinely bad run and I am sorry. New accounts get flagged by an automated pattern check that catches ordinary use more often than it should, and the appeal on the account is the one route that reaches a real review instead of the silent inbox. Had you appealed rather than rebuilt, the original account and its messages could have come back, because a removal stays reversible for about a year. On the fakes, reporting them sends each into an automated review aimed at removal. Sorry this reaches you a long time after you wrote it.

Other reviewers here were right. That site has been taken over by scammers. When I signed up I immediately got 6 responses from supposedly young pretty Asian woman that were all scammers. One even admitted it when I called them out. Sure those were not even their photos. People said on Reddit it used to be a decent penpal site many years ago. Not anymore stay away.

Hi Andy, six scam messages the moment you signed up, one of them owning up to it when you pushed, is a terrible front door and I am sorry that was the welcome. Those were not their photos, and that is exactly what a reverse-image check is for now, tracing a face back to where it was really taken from. Reporting them sets off an automated decision that can remove the account, and a verified-members-only first-contact setting keeps a lot of that flood out to begin with. The old decent version people remember is the direction the work is aimed at. Sorry this reply lands so far after you left it.
Shady ban practice
The site is filled with romance scammers and generally rude people. They never take action.
Then they suddenly ban you without telling you why, when you email to inquire which rules were broken they never even reply. Because none were actually broken and they don't admit to making a mistake. I see a lot of complaints here that they don't ban female accounts, but I am one and I was banned without even knowing why. None of the men who sexually harassed me was, though.
The accounts aren't properly deleted either, and you can't sign up with a new one even years later, even with a new email adress.
EDIT: 3 years later, they find it fit to reply here on trustpilot with an AI response, but not to my appeal email asking what happened.
Automated software apparently bans people with no human review? Then who coded the software? And why is there no automated email stating the supposed reason I got banned in the first place? The appeal option is useless when no human actually checks it, but instead sends the humans to search the internet for year old site reviews and make them copypaste AI slop.
And no, the men who sent me explicit messages never got banned, my friend sent me screenshots from the same guys the following week with hilarious comments like "wasn't he harassing you last week?".
EDIT 2: It's been 3.5 years. Do you seriously think I still remember which email adress I used?
But I found some unreplied message numbers in my inbox. However, I am not giving you my phone number.

Edit: Understood. Well, if you would consider giving us another chance after these 3 years, you know where to find us! We don't need nor want your phone number (if TrustPilot asked for that, it might be from their standard form, you can put any number, we don't care). If you want us to investigate this further, we would need an email address (or multiple you want us to check) or the username you used.
Edit 2: Thanks, found it. The deletion was absolutely a mistake on our end, very sorry about that. Your account is restored and the block is completely lifted. You should be able to log in with the same email. Thanks for bringing this to our attention and our sincerest apologies about this, we messed up.

Just horrible I tried to make a new account again and after less than 2 hours only, they banned me really like a face discrimination with is illegal, of course no reply except a stupid bot answer ! And of course all fakes scams perverts islamists pedophiles snd all other crooks and 💩 are still online without any problem! A brand-new account gone in under two hours, with only a bot reply to show for it, is a bad and confusing start, and I understand the anger. That two-hour flag is automated, and on a fresh account it catches plenty of people who did nothing, which is precisely what the appeal is meant to correct. The appeal on the account reaches a real review rather than the automated response you got, so it is worth using even after the bot reply put you off. Send it from the account and your case gets a direct look. Sorry this comes to you long after you wrote it.

Please be aware. The problem with writing reviews is that we often don't check the review until we have had a bad experience. It's too late then. Something strange is going on with this site. I went to the delete profile page to delete my account. I discovered that accounts are never actually deleted. It is moreso, deactivate. You just log back in and all your information is still still there just waiting for you. Your pics, your messages, essentially all activity is as I f you never left. There should be someway to take legal action, but who knows what is in their terms of agreement. The other strange thing I notice is once I logged backed on I started getting messages from seemingly friendly females (I'm female) asking if I would want to be penpals. They were from Ukraine and Russia. One asked me what I think about the war. The other talked about how things are in Ukraine. I don't think they are real people. Various sources on the Internet stated the owner of the website is from the USA with ties to Russia. In my humble opinion my profile is being used to gauge what the average American thinks about the war. It may sound like a conspiracy, but this all was too coincidental for me. I'm going to see what I can do legally to get my account permanently removed.

When you delete your account, it remains possible to re-activate it for a period of time, after which the data is fully deleted automatically. We do this because many users do decide to re-activate their accounts. However, we also honor support and GDPR deletion requests immediately, for users who want their data fully deleted as soon as possible.
Regarding the political angle, the site is fully US based and our staff is NOT pro-Russia or pro-Putin.

This site took a complete nosedive. I was a very frequent user of interpals 6-7 years ago and back then the site was awesome and I found a lot of cool people that eventually became friends. I‘m still in touch with a lot of them today. After all these years I decided to visit Interpals again and it’s definitely not the same anymore. The site is infested with scammers and fake profiles and apparently Interpals doen’t really care anymore. It’s really hard to find genuine people on there anymore. This site used to be the perfect way of connecting with people from around the world. Nowadays I honestly would stay far far away from it. It’s a shame, but I guess that what happens when website owners do not care about their website anymore.

Hi Nick, that you are still in touch with the friends you made here six or seven years ago is the part I would hold onto, and I get why coming back to a scammer-heavy version stung. The read that nobody cares is fair given what you saw, so here is the concrete counter, a report now drives an automated removal decision instead of gathering dust, and a stolen-photo check can expose a reused picture behind a fake. It does not restore the old feel overnight, but the specific rot you describe is what that work is pointed at. Thanks for giving it another look at all, and sorry this answer is so overdue.

Ghosting and Spam Are Rife, Here...
English: No-one responds, which means either no-one is serious about corresponding, and/or the number of fake profiles is staggering... Don't get me started on the Chinese bots that keep harassing me with spam - the ONLY communication I've received, to-date.
I've communicated the spam issue to the admins, and never received a response.
Too bad... 10 years ago, I met my current friend from Argentina on here... What happened?!?

Dan, meeting the friend from Argentina you still have and then coming back to nothing but spam bots is a real before-and-after, and I am sorry the reporting you did went into silence. That silence is the old way, a report now sets off an automated decision that can act on a spam account instead of waiting on an admin who never answered. A reused profile photo can be traced back to its real source too, and blocking a bot the moment it starts is instant. I am answering in English here since that is where you led, and apologies that it is so far after your review. Ten years on, that Argentine friendship is still the whole point of the place.

Low quality service, full of scammers. Do not go there, do not fall for it. You will not find pen pals, language exchange, tourist guides. All you will find is scammers. There are no administrators and moderators to verify users, or if there are moderators and administrators, they are most incapable to sift away scammers and maintain their platform usable for meaningful purpose.

Hi KrisAlex, the honest version of your point is that there is no big moderation team sifting profiles, you are right about that, so the sifting is done by automation instead. A report now drives an automated decision that can remove a scam account, fakes and scams are set toward removal rather than a warning, and a profile photo can be checked against the web to catch a stolen one. That is a real mechanism doing the work you assumed was missing, even if it is software rather than staff. Sorry it took us this long to respond to you.

Contattata da un coreano che aveva visionato il mio profilo abbiamo cominciato a scambiarci messaggi ma facendo la ricerca attraverso Google ricerca foto ho scoperto che sia il nome e altre informazioni erano false. Quindi ho eliminato il profilo, non ne vale la pena.

Proprio quel controllo ora fa parte del nostro lavoro. Una foto del profilo si può confrontare con il resto del web per scoprire se appartiene davvero a qualcun altro, che è il segnale di gran lunga più comune di un profilo falso. Le segnalazioni ora attivano un'azione automatica invece di restare in coda, e i falsi e i truffatori sono sulla via della rimozione, non di un semplice avviso. Puoi anche accettare il primo contatto solo da membri verificati. Scusa se questa risposta arriva molto dopo la tua recensione.

Hi Ryhor, being asked whether the photo was really yours and whether your location was off, and then blocked two minutes after you asked what that even meant, is a jarring welcome for a day-old account. Those photo and location checks are automated signals meant to catch stolen pictures and mismatched profiles, and on a genuine new member they can misfire exactly like this. The appeal on the account is how a real review takes a second look and clears it if the flag was wrong. Send that appeal and we can confirm the photo and location are yours. I am here on this site in and out. Joined in 2008. Initially back those years, scammers were largely on the loose. They will claim to be from the popular countries easily. Registering using the name of another country was damn easy, but reasonably under control now.
Still there are the Chinese bots, scammers who are into crypto and online investments etc. It’s their era now. There are also people who are on the look out for sponsors.
Aside all this, I have met a lot of genuine people and also in contact with a few outside the site.
However, the site is not for any language exchange and pen palling to its core. Many still use it as a dating site. Receiving responses from users are not that easy. A lot disappear after a couple of messages

Purtroppo tanta gente lo utilizza…
Purtroppo tanta gente lo utilizza solamente per truffare, controllate sempre le foto profilo( ho beccato una tizia con la foto profilo di una modella cinese) e attenti a chi spinge la conversazione verso argomenti finanziari.
Vi riporto alcune tentate truffe che ho ricevuto:
- tentativo di farmi guadagnare tantissimo con un suo metodo di investimento
- con la scusa di avere un marito violento che voleva rubargli l'eredità del padre mi ha chiesto se potevo prendere i suoi soldi e tenerli per un po'.
In conclusione l'applicazione è carina non tutti gli account sono falsi e ogni tanto è bello farsi una chiacchierata con qualcuno dall' altra parte del mondo, ma siate molto diffidenti.

Ciao roberto, hai descritto due schemi classici, la foto rubata a una modella e il discorso che scivola sugli investimenti o su storie strappalacrime per arrivare ai soldi. Sono esattamente i segnali su cui interveniamo. Una foto si può confrontare con il web per smascherare un'immagine presa da qualcun altro, le segnalazioni attivano ora un'azione automatica al posto di una coda, e i falsi e i truffatori vanno verso la rimozione, non verso un avviso. Nel momento in cui qualcuno porta il discorso sul denaro, puoi bloccarlo subito e segnalarlo, così il sistema agisce. Grazie per il consiglio di controllare sempre le foto, è quello giusto. Scusa il forte ritardo di questa risposta.

As expected, this is not a site to find penpals or anyone to have a two way conversation. It appears to be a site for scammers, bots, the strange and people looking for validation.
At best you might get to ask questions, they will answer but hardly ask you any questions. Then they don't correspond. Nobody is looking to improve their language skills, I can't see how that can work.
All are looking for something but definitely not for a Penpal.
The site is old and clunky and you have to wait a week to delete your account. I would avoid.

Hi Noddy, the one-way thing you describe, where people answer but never ask a single question back and then drift off, is a real frustration and not what a pen pal exchange should feel like. The scammers and bots feeding that impression are set toward removal, and a report now triggers an automated decision instead of going unread, so the worst of it can actually be cleared. The ghosting from ordinary people I cannot engineer away, that is just how some of them are, and you are right that the interface and the wait-a-week-to-delete friction both show their age. Stiamo introducendo una verifica con un breve video-selfie e un contrassegno di profilo verificato, e si può scegliere di ricevere il primo contatto solo da membri verificati. È facoltativa e ancora in fase di diffusione, quindi non dico che ogni profilo sia verificato, ma dà alle persone reali un modo per dimostrarlo. Inoltre una foto si può confrontare con il web per scoprire quelle rubate, e le segnalazioni attivano un'azione automatica. Scusa se rispondo così tardi.

Hi Chris, a good start that ends at a login wall is a frustrating way to lose a site, and I am sorry. If you are still locked out, a password reset from the login page is the first thing to try, and it should reach you every time. If the reset never arrives or the account itself was flagged, the appeal link on the account goes to a real review that can sort out access rather than an automated loop. A removed account also stays reversible for about a year, so it is likely still recoverable. This reply is a late one, and I did not want to leave it unanswered.
