Experian are helping me with a issue with the bank they have been really helpful and are advising me what to do it’s still on going but there staff are brilliant

Turned down due to incorrect info

Got turned down for finance due to the company using Experian for their credit checks. I have great credit and pay everything on time, so was curious as to why I was turned down. I created an experience account to see what the issue was only to discover that I needed to sign up to an account that would charge me after 30 days if I didn't cancel. Why should I have to pay to discover why their check had meant I got turned down. After signing up to this account , it turns out they have incorrect information saying I've missed payments on an account that isn't anything to do with me. So not only has this gone down as a failed hard check against me, it's with incorrect information that I've got to challenge and I've been told it can take over a month.

I’m really sorry to hear that you have incorrect information on your credit report and I understand how upsetting it must have been to see this impact your credit score.

When something appears on your report, it’s owned and managed by the company that created the account. Because of that, Experian can’t change or remove the entry unless the lender confirms it’s incorrect.

In the meantime, you can add a short Notice of Correction to explain what happened. Lenders will see this note when they review your report, and it allows you to give important context in your own words.

Experian have not resolved my recent…

Experian have not resolved my recent complaint or been able to help with the misleading reporting of my credit file which has resulted in not being able to get a mortgage. Very unhappy.

Thankyou for your response Stefan. Whilst I understand that the data is owned and managed by the company, you only report on it, it is your misrepresentation of the data that is causing problems. Other credit reference agencies such as Equifax and TransUnion have received the same data as yourselves but reported accurately.
I have always had an excellent credit score and still do now, but your reporting of some data from almost 2 years ago is the difference between able to get a mortgage and buy a house, and becoming homeless after the sale of my home. So it doesn’t ‘feel’ like this impacts my life, it ‘has’ impacted mine and my children’s lives and well being. And all because of a flag on a system somewhere, and I’ve paid a subscription fee every month for over a year all for the pleasure.
If you reported the data the same way as Equifax and TransUnion I would have this devastating impact on my life.

You couldn’t ask for a more supportive company. Christopher has been absolutely fantastic in advising and helping me and has been so friendly and supportive. Staff kind & very helpful BUT it seems Experian are actively working towards or facilitiating a communist style social credit system designed to force you to comply to the powers that be. For example, using their BOOST function, could result in your credit score DROPPING if you have say a Netflix subscription and you cancel it....I kid you not....shocking

Experian Boost is entirely optional and is designed to include certain regular payments if you choose to connect them. It does not penalise you for cancelling everyday subscriptions like streaming services. If a connected account changes or is removed, Boost simply reassesses with the remaining information. It is not intended to force behaviour or reduce scores as a form of compliance.
Your core credit record and score are always based on credit accounts reported by lenders, not lifestyle choices. Boost can be turned off at any time, and your main credit history remains unchanged.
I understand why the way this was presented may have felt worrying, and I appreciate you taking the time to raise it.
