managed to source a few films at a lower price compared to most shops; just to clarify I no longer work for the club/corporate I used to order on behalf of which is why I keep this general without mentioning anyone’s names on either side.
Please bear in mind this is a distributor not a reseller and they used to charge a tenner for every order. If you are based locally it is a lot more efficient to place the order over the phone and collect in person from the warehouse.
However, they often run out of stuff and do not update the website immediately. My best friend confirmed this in 2022. I rang to order every time to make sure the items were in stock and asked about lead times etc.
Tetenal seemed to have a lot of items long term out of stock and when you enquire about availability you do not get any definite answers.
A lot of the items came from warehouses in Europe and sometimes it took months and months ... No wonder some UK shops did not see certain items for ages when distributors like Tetenal were unable to get them in within a few months.
I waited over three months for some items ordered in spring for which I had been charged in advance (you always pay upfront even if it is a backorder) but one has not arrived without any explanations and my receipt has not even been amended; nothing part reimbursed - no one could be bothered to make amends or get to the bottom of it ? IT glitch or someone no doing their job? until I complained -
there seemed to be some cash flow problems there (sarcastic comment - you pay your office staff too much for what they actually do) and half of the staff did not seem to know what they were doing (you need to think about your www as well as the overheads)
This may be old experience of ours from a couple of years ago; my friend however describes something rather similar to me as of 2022.
rude warehouse staff -
I have never been to the warehouse myself but whenever I or my colleague had to communicate with the warehouse staff in the past they were rude and not very helpful. Fact.

My best friend had a similar experience and I spoke to two resellers in the meantime; initially noone has any problem registering with this company on an end-user basis whatsoever; however the reality of the communications with Tetenal do not seem to reflect on the corporate culture of a well-established company in dealings with us or him.
My main problem remained the same throughout the years I kept getting contradicting reactions and responses to my queries from different company representatives at different times.

Some resellers manage to get the hard to find stock such as Fujifilm and some obscure films from all around the world while Tetenal uk seems to be out of stock long term. ‘Good’ prices most of the time but never available - How is that possible?

We’d like to take this opportunity to address the issues you raised in your review, including the points regarding our business and staff.
You mentioned that we are a distributor and not a reseller. This is correct and is reflected in both our pricing and our delivery fees. This is to discourage end users purchasing directly from us because we would prefer to direct them to our broad network of resellers.
In your case, we agreed to order these items especially for you as they were not something which is kept as a regular stock item. We were happy to do this to help with your specific requirements. As with all special orders, we insist on taking payment in advance to protect us should you find the item elsewhere.
Our stock system is directly linked to our website, so the stock should always be up to date. We are in the process of installing a new system and website so there may be the occasional teething issues. If this has happened to you on this occasion, then we apologise for the inconvenience.
You mentioned the difficulties we seem to have in obtaining film stock. This is a widely known issue in the analogue community. Film stock is in short supply worldwide. We do not manufacture film therefore we cannot be held responsible for the speed or frequency of its supply. Tetenal are one of the leading suppliers into the UK market and we use our influence to obtain stock as often as we possibly can to fulfil the demands of our regular customers. In addition, the particular film stock you referenced is manufactured overseas by a company who shuts down for the summer, making the obtaining of stock during this period even trickier.
Our warehouse is a busy area and we do not usually allow personnel who are not employees or carriers to enter this area. Once again, we decided to make an exception and try to help you with collection. Our Warehouse staff are dedicated to excellent customer service who were happy to accommodate your request for personal collection into their busy daily schedule of tasks.
Finally, your inference that Tetenal has cash flow issues is not only factually incorrect, but highly damaging to our business and the livelihood of the employees who work in the business. Tetenal is a strong, long established business and well respected as one of the leading suppliers of photographic print products into the UK market.

Errors on website
Bought a few items from the Tetenal website at a certain price only to have my invoice credited and reissued at a higher cost price with no explanation. When I asked the reason I was told there was an error on their site and I would have to pay the higher price. After a few emails and refusing to pay they reinstated the original invoice.

Excellent service and delivery times
I urgently needed a paper roll within 2 days as our old one had been damaged. All other companies offer a 3-5 day delivery service however Tetenal managed to deliver the very next day and saved me a lot of stress. Would highly recommend and will now be my go-to choice for equipment and supplies.
