Staff are great but customer service is terrible. Looked to cancel no easy cancellation option online only freeze , direct debit canceled this triggers response and was told it has to be in writing and would need to pay another months fee argued the case and was given the company line ITS IN THE T&Cs no help whatsoever, i would have signed back up when I was able, but absolutely not now i wil go elsewhere, to another gym who value their customers.

Had an induction with Chloe Pearce, she is very friendly and easy to talk to. I found her very interesting and informative.
Chloe advised me what areas I needed to concentrate on, as I told her how I wanted to better myself.
She showed me some exercises using the machines at the gym which would benefit me.
I also take a class with her which I look forward to going to. I do sometimes find it hard work but no pain no gain. She walks between the class to make sure we are doing it right and is very professional. The actual class is always full and you have to book early.

I received a voucher for a 30-minute spa treatment for two, which included an afternoon tea-style lunch. However, after redeeming the voucher, it stated that the treatment duration was only 20 minutes—this is misleading and not what was originally advertised.

On the day of my booking, my dad was admitted to hospital, meaning I was unable to attend due to circumstances entirely outwith my control. While I appreciate there are cancellation policies in place, I reasonably expected some level of understanding or flexibility given the situation, at the very least the option to reschedule.

Unfortunately, the response I received from your staff was extremely disappointing. The individual I spoke to showed no empathy whatsoever and made no effort to assist or explore any possible resolution. The lack of compassion and unwillingness to help in what was already a distressing situation is unacceptable and falls well below the level of customer service I would expect.

Bannatyne's is not somewhere I'd be looking to rebook.

Very helpful reception staff. Had issues with the app but IT support was fabulous. Only used the swimming and spa facilities which are excellent and one class which was circuit. The staff were brilliant. Explanations and support throughout the class. So far a great experience 🥰

Overall the gym is great, clean and the staff are polite.
What annoys me is people not putting their weights back after use and leaving them on the machines, dumbbells not in the right place for their weight (even first thing in the AM which means gym staff didn’t check) and people coming into the changing room from the pool without drying so making the floor wet.

Joined here years ago just after it opened. Left when they did away with classes and tried to do classes via video.
Rejoined when they got rid of this. Had to cancel due to cancer treatment 2021 still charged for a months fees. Then after two years treatment re-joined was fine for a few months but from 2 years chemo have been left with a number of problems and needed a number of times put membership on hold due to a number of falls from chemo treatment. Left wristband with them over year before, then Nov 25 decided to give notice but said put on hold and if my condition improved I might try again. Unfortunately that was not an option and I cancelled direct debit. Finance dept get in touch and I message then twice start of May. Now I am getting messages from Lorraine saying as my message was not worded correctly for their cancellation policy I still owe money. I call and another manager Chantelle refused to speak with me.
Don’t get sick while a member with this bunch not used gym since dec 2024 still paid for it and they still expect payment despite giving six months notice.
When I gave the notice back in 4/11/25 they never said the wording was incorrect for their policy, so how am I meant to know?

I find the gym very poor and tired for the money the not at all happy with it at all.

Overall the centre has good facilities. Unfortunately it is not the cleanest place. The pool water is very cloudy and the steam room is filthy. The changing room toilets had urine on the floor.

I've only been signed up for a couple of weeks. Was a bit disappointed when I arrived for my first visit. Was told I would be shown around- I assumed this would include being shown how to use the machines in the gymnasium however, I was taken through the turnstiles to the bottom of the stairs and the member of staff vaguely pointed in different directions to tell me where things were and left me to it. As it stands I can only use a few of the machines because some of them - rowing machine for example I don't know to get the screen to come on.

Very welcoming from entering through to signing up, being shown around the complex. Clear informative information regarding joining fees and sign up obligations. Helpful staff. A nice feeling in the building overall.

Good water temperature, clean environment & good facilities. The only disappointment was the spa pool. It was cold!

Swimming pool is great. Changing rooms need a refresh as they are tired and many lockers do not work.

I have only been a member for a month but this is what I have experienced so far. I have not used the gym but have been to classes and swimming.
All staff and instructors and very friendly and helpful, so are other members, which makes a welcoming atmosphere. There are people of all ages and abilities enjoying the classes I have attended, obviously all feel welcome. Everywhere is clean and looks well kept. I like having a wristband to enter and use the lockers, no cards or padlocks necessary!
The downside; unfortunately booking is not the easiest, you have to use the app and can only book four days ahead. When I first downloaded it two other ‘health’ apps popped up too which was confusing.
Popular classes are booked up immediately so I was a member for two weeks before I managed to get in a Pilates class. I’ve been to three Pilates now and each has a different instructor, but none walk around checking everyone has the correct posture and position which I thought was important to get the benefit from the exercises in Pilates. The aqua class instructor is an older lady who is clearly well liked, but unfortunately she seems unable to demonstrate or describe the moves very well. I guess when you are used to her you can work it out and it isn’t a class where posture or technique matters so much.
The big negative is that ever since I joined there has been no hot water, only cold showers and no indication of when the problem will be fixed!
This does not sound good but really, overall I do like this club. If you know what to do and have been to classes before it helps, but the friendliness and welcoming atmosphere goes a long way.

Bannatyne health club at Darlington is really amazing, and a great space to relax and enjoy yourself, i totally recommend it over and over again😊.

Reception staff were very friendly and so we're a few of the customers... clean, tidy and very well kitted out... you get what you pay for.

Bannatyne is absolutely great facilities, people and has all I need to stay fit.

A great gym with plenty of machines and a pool, what’s not to like!

Brilliant gym and staff, can’t fault either of them. My main issue is, for at least the last 3 weeks there’s been no hot water in the showers and there’s been constant issues with the swimming pool. The changing rooms look like they need a major refurb.

Classes on gym floor at peak time take up a lot of the equipment/space at peak time, cold showers, cold pool, water fountain doesn't work and hasn't for weeks, and no matter how much you try to opt out of marketing emails they just keep spamming the hell out of you. Very much regret joining
