Wolfburn is a multi-award-winning whisky distillery on the north coast of mainland Scotland. Building work commenced in the summer of 2012 and Wolfburn was reopened after some 150 years in early 2013. In 1821 William Smith founded a distillery on the outskirts of Thurso and named it Wolfburn after the watercourse it drew from, “burn” being the Scots word for stream or small river. The distillery was constructed from hardy local Caithness flagstone and the remains of its foundations can still be seen today. Smith invested heavily in Wolfburn and it quickly became a significant producer of malt whisky – tax records from the early 19th Century show it being the largest distillery in Caithness. In 1826 its annual production was 28,056 “Total Gallons of Proof Spirt” – roughly 125,000 litres. The new Wolfburn distillery building is just a short walk along the burn from the old site towards the sea. A mixture of ex-bourbon casks and ex-Olorosso sherry butts have been used so far in the maturation of this aromatic, mildly smokey delicious Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Our master craftsmen fashion their whisky the same way it has always been made: by hand, using only the finest ingredients, and without haste. Now available worldwide in over 38 countries.

Wir hatten eine Standardtour gebucht. Laut Wetterbericht sollte es jedoch an diesem Tag sonnig sein und am darauf folgenden Tag regnen. Per Mail wurde dann am Tag vor der Tour nachgefragt, ob wir die Tour um einen Tag verschieben könnten.
Spätabends kam die Antwort, das das kein Problem sein wird und wir am darauf folgenden Tag die Tour machen können.

Schöne Destillerie und gute Tour
Schöne Destillerie und gute Tour. Ein Glas gab es zum Abschluss nicht und der driver konnte sich eine kleine Flasche mitnehmen. Bei anderen Touren gab es kleine Flaschen zum abfüllen der Kostproben. Von den 8 Whiskys musste ich mich so für einen entscheidenden einen Überblick hab ich so nicht.

Interessante Besichtigung
Spannende Einblicke in eine kleine, familiäre Destille. Hier wird noch vieles per Hand erledigt. Die Führung war sehr informativ und gut verständlich. Vielen Dank auch an unsere nette Tour Managerin Wilma, die sich wirklich viel Zeit genommen hat!
Im Anschluss wurden fünf Whiskys verkostet.

Wonderful distillery
Great little distillery. Very modern but with a great history behind it. Turned up off-chance and Wilma was very welcoming. Good knowledge of the distillery’s history and modern day operation as well as product details.
Bought a bottle of the Anniversary 2024. Excellent whisky, nice smokiness and peaty character with a smoothness to it.
Would thoroughly recommend a visit and will buy more whiskey online once the supply runs dry.

Wolfburns lovely 10 year old
I have a fair amount of different whisky's and although I have several different bottles from Wolfburn, they were all unopened until I bought my son in law a 10 year old and was offered the first drink out of it. Well, I found it to be one of the nicest whisky's I have It was smooth, flavoursome and warming without taking the lining from your throat, it was beautiful and so much so that I immediately ordered myself a bottle which unfortunately "evaporated" rather quickly. So much so that I have had to order two more bottles.
I am no whisky connoisseur but this was beautiful and would definitely recommend it.
