Ben was very helpful and patient whilst I chose the right vehicle, it took quite a long time for me to decide especially because I was changing to a different brand of car, he always welcomed me to MG Chesterfield with a hand shake and s smile.

As someone recently retired from a long career in the automotive industry—having worked in roles from MD and Group Operations Director to business owner—I feel uniquely positioned to recognise both exceptionally good and catastrophically bad customer service. My recent experience provided a stark example of both.

I purchased a used MG HS from Quality Cars and Commercials in Birmingham. On day one, I discovered it had serious safety faults: it needed new brake discs and pads all around and two new tyres.

The supplying dealer was reluctant to accept responsibility. To get an impartial diagnosis, I contacted MG Chesterfield and was assisted by Mark Taylor, a Senior Service Advisor. He booked the car in, confirmed all the faults, and even proactively arranged for two important software updates to be applied.

What followed was a three-week arm wrestle with the supplying dealer. Whenever they pushed back, Mark was a pillar of support. When they demanded evidence, he provided a definitive video diagnosis from the technician, which left them with no recourse but to approve the repairs.

Throughout this entire process, Mark was a consummate professional. He was patient, informative, and understanding, even when having to deliver difficult news. He understood the gravity of the situation from the start, and I felt I could trust his advice completely.

The role of a Service Advisor is one of the most high-pressure in a dealership, often having to deliver expensive news to emotionally invested customers. Mark navigated this perfectly. He is one of those unsung heroes who delivers "good service"—which isn't something you can buy, but a feeling you get when you are dealt with honestly and professionally.

I was also very impressed by the technician who took the time to come out and explain the issues to me clearly.

Mark was unaware of my background until the very end. This feedback is based purely on the outstanding customer experience he provided. It’s my hope that Robert Forster gets to see this review—incidentally, Robert, on the day you joined Reg Vardy, I was the GM working for Sir Peter in Salford who picked you up from Trafford Park. You should be incredibly proud of the standard of service Mark represents.
