Better than going to the store!
I ordered my box pre-christmas, got a box for myself and for a gift. The options were great, and the message from my giftee was absolutely overjoyed. I was going to make this a one time thing but after shopping around found that not only was truLOCAL competitive but were better in some areas plus free delivery, could not beat that.
I will keep you posted on how the saga continues!!

I love the selection and the quality of meat and seafood. So many amazing local products to try! The customer service is exceptional, and its so convenient to have everything delivered on dry ice direct to your door, without needing to be home/sign for it.

truLOCAL is better than a grocery store
There are many reasons to like truLOCAL. I love the convenience (pick items online and it arrives on my porch), the quality (the steaks are thicker now and I have never had a bad product from truLOCAL), the selection (tons of options), and their customer service is top notch.
The price is higher than low-end grocery (like Walmart) but they don't have the buying power that Walmart has, it's quality is better than grocery, and it is shipped FROZEN to my house instead of me waiting in line all day or finding empty shelves at the grocery store. Never going back to grocery.

Excellent Customer Service. Difficult Website.
The customer service is excellent but the website is a little hard to navigate when you have discount codes. I've had to contact customer service a few times but every time, they've been amazing. If there's a mistake or you don't cancel your box on time, which did happen to me once, they were very quick to cancel and credit my card back. If for some reason you miss the window though, I could see it being a problem because they ship out so quickly.
Products have been fantastic. The salmon pies in our house are a must. As are the bison burgers. Highly recommend and have been using their service since 2020 with only one price increase. That's not terrible considering the current state of inflation everywhere.

I was purchasing from Trulocal for about 3 months when I was feeling like I'm not getting my money's worth so I cut back my order so I could get a good comparison. And what I found out was crazy. They're charging me $160.00 a month for about maybe $100.00 worth of food. I cancelled right away and told them they should be ashamed of what they're doing. No reply. So please if you're thinking about using Trulocal stop now and find someone else. Please.

Our prices are definitely comparable to your boutique grocers, with the added convenience of direct-to-home delivery plus the local factor.
Given the rising costs of meat, packaging, dry ice, shipping, labour, etc - we definitely do our very best to keep our pricing competitive to other similar direct-to-home services, but we certainly appreciate any feedback we can get to work to improve as we grow.
In regards to not replying to your comment, we are so terribly sorry. It looks like you left your comments in your cancellation survey.
Those comments are filed into your account for feedback to review quarterly, but the comments don't actually get automatically sent over to our customer service team.

I would stay away ordering meat from them.
I placed my only order on Aug 13th which Novax (carrier) sent me a confirmation which was shipped on 16th. I was genuinely excited to try it out.
I get an email from truLOCAL on August 16 saying that second order has been shipped (yes 1 days later my "first" order arrived). I gave them a call 4 times to cancel and ask why they are sending me the second order for no reason and none of the time they picked up their phone. Once I get a hold of them on 17th of August via email they say that I clicked on “Get My Box Now” from my profile page on August 15th 6:48PM to trigger the second order (which I never did). I sent the email to treLOCAL on August 16th 10:13pm that I did not order or click on “Get My Box Now” and asking to be cancelled.
They sent me the exact same order without any modification and charge me the full price for something that I did not order. What a poor customer service

We are so terribly sorry about this situation - as mentioned in our email communication, we do have an account history log that logs customers' actions taken on each individual account.
It does appear that 'Get My Box Now' was selected on your account, triggering a second order to be pushed through.
It isn't uncommon for customers to receive more than one box in a given week (i.e. if they are having some extra company over or have gone through their contents quicker than originally planned) - so it's not something that we would have flagged internally as suspicious or as a possible mistake.
That being said, we always do our very best to reverse any orders that are unintentionally placed!
We can cancel & refund an order before it has been packed and shipped out - but it's unfortunately incredibly difficult to reverse an unintentional order once it has been shipped and delivered successfully.
Especially given the current situation with COVID-19, we aren't able to accept returns for food. :(
It looks like you did send us an email into marketing@mail.trulocal.ca, which is an unmonitored marketing email for newsletters - our Consumer Experience Team handles communication through our customer service inbox - info@trulocal.ca - so that explains why your email to us was missed. We are so terribly sorry, this is an all-around unfortunate situation and definitely not the experience we want you to have with us. Please feel free to email us at info@trulocal.ca when your freezer is getting low again - we would love to send you a box of your choice of contents, on us!
Great products!
We’ve had a subscription from Trulocal for a couple of years now. For the most part, the cost is comparable to grocery stores (there are some products that are slightly more expensive) but we like the idea that we’re shopping local. We also like the range of products available. The meats have always been good - we particularly like the bison and grass fed beef - and we’ve never had a problem with quality.

Two years of great products.
We've been ordering from them since the beginning of the pandemic. The cost is a lot cheaper than buying at grocery stores or local butchers (we're in Northern Ontario). Shipping is always fast (we get it 2 days after it being shipped which is impressive.) and it usually ships out within a few days of us ordering it. It's packed with dry ice in the summer, and with these awesome reusable ice packs in the winter that last over 24 hours on their own (we reuse them for when we need ice packs) and longer when packed with frozen items. We stick to ordering products from Ontario producers and have never been disappointed. Meats are always juicy and flavourful. I also love the add on options they have for fruits and vegetables now. The few times I've contacted customer service (about promo codes or with questions) they've always been extremely helpful.

Tru “local” sent us shrimp from china
Tru “local” sent us farmed shrimp from China. Even frozen it smelled like sewer. Absolutely horrible taste, not local and a cheap product.

Orderd a Christmas box December 19 and recived confirmation to be delivered within 7 days when contacted theu informed us we chose shipping January 5th we cancelled never again stick to costco or Omaha steaks

Our holiday gift boxes have the option to choose a shipping date upon checkout, a little calendar pops up and you can select when you would like your box to ship -- it looks like your wife had chosen January 5th as the preferred shipping date upon checkout, which is why the box didn't ship prior to that selected date :(
We do see here that our team was able to cancel and refund the order for her back in December.
We sincerely apologize once again for any inconvenience this may have caused and will certainly take this feedback into consideration for our holiday box planning for this upcoming season.

I’m seeing some negative reviews for…
I’m seeing some negative reviews for Tru Local although my experience with them has always been mostly positive and when there was an issue it was rectified immediately. It is true that it is definitely more expensive to order your meat this way however people comparing the price of a locally sourced ethically raised beef to the price of Walmart meat which by the way is mostly sourced from the States is like comparing Apples to Oranges and I realize some people aren’t concerned about sourcing or the quality of the food they consume as much as the bottom line. I will also say that there is absolutely no comparison as far as quality to what you will find in most grocery stores. As far as their competitors go without actually naming one of the most popular ones people need to understand sourcing because one in particular uses mostly American beef so this is in no way supporting local farmers as well as the fact that American farming practices in general are not as regulated as Canadian. I will finish by saying that if I was feeding a family and not just two people I couldn’t afford to use Tru Local as my main go to for meat and I do supplement with another distributor for seafood and also a local market for some meat items. I would have given this rating five stars if it were not for the fact that this last order was delivered almost one week after ordering and I did notice a difference in how some items were packaged although everything was received intact and still frozen. I expect the quality of the items to be the same and if not I’ll update this review later. I believe they are using a different delivery service now and I’ll have to see how it goes.

They cannot deliver on time
They cannot deliver on time. A 6 or more day window for delivery for a frozen product is not acceptable. I understand that they are dealing with courier services. Just won’t work for me. I ordered my first box and it came on the first day that was listed , so I signed up for the subscription, but I am still waiting for my second box to arrive On the last day of the 6 day window.

Checked out the price for ordering meat from this company months ago. It was very expensive. They popped up on a Facebook ad so clicked to check out if prices dropped. Cannot see pricing unless you give email address and name.
Went back to ad on Facebook to ask the company why, there were glowing reviews that each had a response from the company and guess what....no way to ask any questions. No up front pricing. Reviews that do not seem real. Great marketing. Deceptive.

For our subscription boxes, we have two box sizes - a Starter Box for $135 and a Family Box for $259 - and then you can customize the contents within each box size. You can check out the prices on our 'Pricing' page on the website, and play around with customizing a box on the 'Build Your Box' page.
Because we ship perishable food items, the postal code check is there to check to ensure that we can ship to you within a timely manner, before you go through the process of building a box! The email address field is there so that it can auto-populate at the end, should you choose to check out! It's also there in case you abandon the page, so that your contents stay saved if you choose to return :)
Please know that your email address is only used if you choose to proceed to checkout, or if you specifically sign up for our newsletter!
If you want to bypass that step, you can simply leave the field blank! It's optional :)
