Trouble with activation, online account, AND service pin
I was having trouble activating my phone despite following all of the steps on the site. I contacted Tracfone via the chat feature. It took 2.5 hours of the agent working with me, but my service plan pin wouldn't work so they created a ticket. I tried to follow up on the ticket status a few days later and about an hour later my phone was working. ...but I received a text that my next payment was due in 30 days despite having purchased a 90 day plan. I was told to log into my account online to see if the information there was accurate, only to encounter an endless loop of issues and error messages with my online account. Overall, I spent 5 hours talking to 4 different agents and still couldn't get the issues resolved. Multiple times the agent just quit and I had to start over again with someone new. At no point was I rude to the agent. They are just doing their job, but it was really frustrating to have them unexpectedly end the chat when I was actively trying to resolve login issues. I never write reviews, but this whole experience was truly outrageous. I can't get reimbursed for the plan and also have no use for the phone when I will lose access to the number in 90 (or 30) days.

Have been a customer many years! Today I called and the lady reopense. Was horrible. Took her 5 to 10 mins to load her computer didn t talk the whole time. Then she tells me I see you are on ---- # and I m like yes. Then she wants to send me a code to verify i m on the phone # she just told me I was on. WHY?!! Then difn t want to help me bc I couldn't t get my phone to stay on the call and pull up rhe text. She was very rude and she might ve los you a long time customer! I used to buy cards on line but they started not going on my phone but going into reserve. And I d have to call every month. I refuse to deal with agents that barely speak English and get frustrated with me when I can t understand them. This company is getting terrible!
Deceptive Business Practices and Buggy App
So I had been a customer of Tracfone for about 12 years. Started having issues last month after Tracfone did a bunch of updates to their app and website. Buying a 3 GB card turned into my service being disconnected. Got that fixed. Fast forward to last week, and my data just stops working. Glitchy chatbot that pretends to he a person was useless. After being back and forth with a support agent, it turns out my issue was that my som card had been downgraded from a 4G card to a 3G on their end due to “recent upgrades to their system”. But that system doesn’t support 3G, so their solution was that I had to buy a new sim card pack. To get back to the service I had before. I’m obviously not doing that, so I switched to Mint Mobile (which switching was also difficult because Tracfone had messed up all of my account numbers, so getting the right info Mint needed was a hassle).
I don’t know which moron decided adding a bunch of bugs to the app and website and downgrading people’s service so they have to buy new sim cards was a good idea, but I’m positive I’m not the only long-term customer Tracfone is driving away with their new idiotic business practices.

Email Harassment
I needed a temporary phone with number and minimum plan.
Every 2 to 3 days I get a warning email I must renew my service or I will loose my phone number.
I started on April 10th and the plan i choose expires on May 10th.
I paid $17 for a phone number that is mine that I can use wherever i want. What gives them the right to harash me?
International calling to Germany does not work!
I have $20 on my international calling balance and I always dial the correct number. But when I call Germany I always get a busy sign. The call goes through when I call Spain and the calls to Germany used to work, but stopped working. I called Tracfone, stayed on the phone with them for hours. They finally gave me a reference number and promised to call me back. I never got a call back and when I inquired again with the reference number, the new tech knew nothing about it. Tracfone sucks! If you want reliable phone calls to Germany, choose a different cellphone provider for your own sanity. Tracfone customer service is terrible with the same line from each tech... "I am so sorry this is happening to you, I will fix it, I am a manager and know the problem". They are untrained and know nothing. At the end I was told by a technician that it was Germany's fault that the phone call would not go through and for me to contact the German phone company. I'm switching services as soon as my current air time runs out in November. Again... TRACFONE SUCKS!!!! 😠👎
Don’t get sucked into this bullshit company
My mother of 88 years of age. We worked all day to get it activated. The day ended with neither of her phones working. This is bullshit. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Customer service should be renamed customer garbage
Spent over an hour and they cannot transfer my phone number or points to a brand new Tracfone. Constantly validating me but cannot use my new phone to call or text or receive phone calls. Hard to understand representatives who are unknowledgeable.
I love TracFone
I love TracFone. I always seem to end up back at square one, with them. They are the most versatile out of all my experiences with other companies, mainly at&t. Plus customer service is very helpful, not to mention pleasant as far as I can tell. No bad experience so far.
Tracfone broke their website in 2026: AVOID
I've been a tracfone customer for more than 10 years and while they've never had especially good customer service, in general you got what you paid for - cheap service that worked in most places. However, in 2026 they "updated" their website and broke almost every function. Hours and hours on the phone with customer service trying to fix it all, ended in failure. I cannot use the website to buy data, to buy time on my plan, or to really do anything. It's been beyond frustrating.
Finally, they basically told me that it's not fixable. It's a tech problem and I'm out of luck.
I would not recommend tracfone to anyone at this point. It may be cheap, but you're throwing your money away.

Poor phone support
Poor phone support. Tracfone canceled my primary phone when service on my secondary / extra phone ended. On the phone with tech support literally for hours, trying to resolve this. They couldn't find records, and wouldn't accept my records of purchase of a year's service as proof.

My husband uses his Tracfone infrequently, and t hat's how he likes it. So, when he forgot about it, and the phone had shut down, we didn't even know for several weeks! I know. Laugh. Anywhoooo, a young Asian man, yes....Asian man, spent a looong time helping me get his phone back up and running. He went over and above what was expected, and never became frustrated with me. If you don't want bare bones, spend the big bucks. I was very pleased and relieved.

How to purchase add-ons for your plan.
I'm writing this to help people. How to purchase add-ons. Go to website, menu, refill plans, scroll down to add-ons. Pick what you want then go through the process when you get a pop- up just close it and continue to pay with PayPal check the box then confirm. I have been doing this since Verizon started making changes and has ruined tracfone as a cell provider.
Internet speed is extremely slow

Some agents are highly skilled and friendly, but others will lie just to make a sale when you contact them for technical support on an unrelated issue.

Absolutely exhausting experience with TracFone.
I’ve been helping my 79-year-old father manage his phone account, and what should have been a simple switch to Verizon Prepaid turned into a confusing, time-consuming mess.
We were instructed to call a Verizon number, but the representative kept switching between saying he was Verizon and TracFone. No clear answer. We exchanged verification codes around seven times and were told everything was complete. It wasn’t. The transfer never worked.
Then came the billing issues. Their website is poorly designed and unclear. Charges went through without any clear confirmation, simply from clicking the button multiple times.
Next, we tried to sign up for their advertised multi-line discount plan. It does NOT work as advertised. We even merged accounts thinking that was required. Still no discount.
The worst part: you cannot cancel auto-refill online. There is a button, but clicking it does nothing. No confirmation, no change.
I had to call customer service and spent 2 hours and 10 minutes on the phone. The representative didn’t even create a ticket until I pushed for it over an hour into the call. That alone took another 40 minutes. Ticket: 1339-75-7487.
At this point, we are canceling TracFone entirely and attempting to move the numbers to Verizon. Given everything we’ve experienced so far, I have serious concerns about whether that process will even go smoothly.
Biggest issues:
- Website features don’t work
- Charges go through without clear confirmation
- Auto-refill is nearly impossible to cancel
- Customer service is extremely inefficient
- Confusing overlap between Verizon and TracFone support
I would strongly recommend avoiding TracFone unless you’re prepared to spend hours fixing problems that shouldn’t exist in the first place.
Years of lousy customer service
I had service for years and their customer service had never improved, they never correct the issue and their call center is in another country, language issues. I have to lines and they separated the lines into separate accounts and I don't have access for my daughter's phone, she doesn't either
