Avoid Tbilisicars in Kutaisi!
We were given a Mitsubishi Sport Outlander with over 160,000km on it. They said there was some kind of banking problem that meant we could only pay in cash. We found this quite strange, but luckily we had enough money. The otherwise kind and helpful staff explained in broken English that according to Georgian law, tire problems are not covered by insurance, and that we can’t go to certain places by this car, or we can go, but if there is any problem, the insurance won’t cover it. Among these, he highlighted Usghuli, where we wanted to go. This is quite funny, because we rented a 4WD SUV precisely to be able to go to such places. According to their website, only sedan cars can go to Usghuli. In addition, it turned out that the new concrete road from Mestia to Ushguli and further through the Zagari pass was ready, so the ban was completely unnecessary even for sedan cars.
We had several problems with the car, the tire light came on regularly, even though there was nothing, and the service engine soon light was constantly on. If they had told us about these display problems, we would have worried a lot less.
We also had a flat tire, the tire was torn beyond repair, we had to buy another one.
When we returned the car, we had to wait at least half an hour for the police check if we had committed any violations. Then they said that the tires we bought were not good enough and they withheld 50 euros from the deposit, but they promised to send an invoice for this the next day. Of course, I have not received an invoice since.

Avoid TbilisiCars.com at all costs – absolute scam artists
This was hands down the worst car rental experience we’ve ever had, and it almost ruined our entire trip.
1. Zero communication. They gave us NO information before pickup. We had to chase them by email and WhatsApp. They ignored us until late at night (around 11 PM!) the day before, only to tell us the car we reserved was “not available.”
2. Bait and switch. We booked and paid for a 4x4 SUV. First, they tried to push some random car on us at a “discount.” Then, magically, the next day, an SUV suddenly appeared—but only if we paid full price. Convenient, right? We took it because we needed a 4x4. Guess what? Within 20 km, the car completely broke down—lights flashing everywhere, undriveable.
3. Garbage replacement. They replaced the SUV with an ancient, beat-up Toyota Prius in TERRIBLE condition. The car was unsafe: the check engine light was on from the moment we got it, and when we asked, the agent just shrugged and said, “yeah, it’s always on.” When we refueled it, the entire car started reeking of gasoline—clear sign of a leak. We reported this when we returned the car, and their response was a casual “yeah, yeah, we’ll check,” which we seriously doubt they ever will. Not only was it not an SUV, it was a dangerous wreck. This completely destroyed our travel plans, since we had booked a proper SUV to go off-road.
4. Rude, unreliable staff. The guy who showed up for pickup arrived late (we asked for 9:30, he came at 10:30), was rude, uninterested, and gave us zero explanations. Returning the car was an even bigger nightmare—we had to call FOUR different people just to find the one person who would take the car back. Nobody knew what was going on.
5. Shady practices with “speeding fines.” When returning the car, they suddenly claimed we might have speeding tickets and would need to pay them directly. We immediately told them that if there were any fines, we would go straight to the police, confirm everything officially, and we absolutely would not hand them cash. At that moment, they backtracked and magically said, “oh no, no, you don’t have any tickets.” So first we “had” fines, then—when we refused to be scammed—they disappeared. That says everything about how dishonest this company is.
6. More lies. They asked us to return the car earlier than agreed because they “already rented it out” to someone else THE SAME DAY, even though our booking was for another 24 hours.
In short: this company lies, scams, gives you broken and unsafe cars, ruins your plans, and treats customers like garbage.
⚠️ DO NOT rent from TbilisiCars.com unless you want your vacation ruined. Rent from literally anyone else—you’ll thank yourself later.
