Avoid This Platform – A Disastrous Publishing Experience

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others considering this publishing service.

At first glance, the platform looks promising—clean website, user-friendly interface—but don’t be fooled. Behind the scenes, it’s a mess. There are major gaps in the publishing process that aren’t explained or supported, and when you reach out for help, the communication is abysmal. Weeks and even months can go by without a single reply.

In my case, they made multiple critical errors with my pre-launch file submissions, which led to misprinted proof copies. That alone cost me over $500—and I received no apology, no refund, and no accountability. I was told someone in leadership would reach out to make things right. That never happened.

I launched my book during a significant awareness campaign tied to mental health. I had charity partnerships, events, and a full launch planned. But due to their delays and silence, the paperback and hardcover editions never went live—only the Kindle version. My entire campaign fell apart, and my audience was left hanging.

To make matters worse, this company continued to sell my book for over two years without ever paying me a single cent in royalties. I had no access to sales data, no reports, and no ability to track what was happening with my own work. When I inquired, I was ignored.

This was my debut novel—a deeply personal and meaningful project. It should have been a proud moment. Instead, it’s been one of the most stressful, disheartening experiences I’ve ever had as an author.

I would never recommend this platform to anyone serious about publishing their work. There’s no real customer support, no transparency, and no care for authors. If I could speak to someone on the phone, I’d demand a refund—but unfortunately, that’s not even an option.

Save yourself the heartache. Look elsewhere.

EDIT - I have since been contacted by six other authors who saw my complaints on twitter/x and other Social Media platforms, who have reported similar experiences, including not being paid for sales going on for 3+ years.

I worked closely with Georgia who was responsive, patient, and kind. Georgia knew this was my first experience in the publishing world and made it as seamless as possible. Thank you, Georgia!

Utterly corrupt and incompetent; Tablo grossly corrupted the text of my novel and then did not respond to any of my efforts to either correct or cancel publication. 3 years later, I stumbled on their dreadful edition of my work on Amazon! It is so bad that I don't want anyone to think I had anything to do with it.
Tablo did respond to this review, after ignoring all email from me, and claims the item will be deleted. It remains to be seen if this happens.

Tablo has been integral to getting attention for my work. I have actually been writing a massive story for 12 years now but gave up on traditional publishers because they reject so many writers with potential. Self-publishing levels the playing field and gives unrecognized author's a voice. The staff at Tablo are very friendly and knowledgeable. I really appreciate their help. It's also very easy to use, and an excellent place to store your writing. Formatting chapters is very easy. I have published 13 books so far, and counting.

Tablo Publishing as a company considers the author at the forefront of what they do. That's why I decided to use them to republish my book. The traditional publishing platform for small presses failed me not because they are inherently bad. The operational costs mostly got in the way for what I wanted to do. That's where Tablo Publishing comes in their products are there to serve the author. I believe that some modern publishers not all lack care for the author. And authors are paid little to no royalties. Because of operational costs it takes a lot to keep a small press in business. I know my capital is being utilised properly.

Issues to note
- The book was published with major errors that I had already identified and raised during the review process
- My royalties remained outstanding for my entire experience – there were no quarterly royalties paid ever as promised and no communication as to why. When I would enquire, I would get a reply from Georgia telling me to expect them in 2 weeks' time. They never came.
- It was only following a very unfortunate threat of legal action did the CEO finally contacted me to arrange payment of 4 missing quarters.

I disagree with other reviewers that this is a scam, I believe it is attempting to be a legitimate business, it’s just a horribly managed business with no idea how to behave appropriately nor have they any idea how to treat people.

My review is not an attempt to discredit these people, but I am attempting to protect a future author having the same terrible experience.

I have canceled my account and moved to another publisher.

I would advise anyone to avoid these people.

This service is absolute rubbish.
Have been with Tablo for 3 years now and found them to be incredibly difficult to work with and a constant struggle.

They do not show up to their promises promoted and are impossible to get in contact with.

To add insult to injury due to an error in their finance department they automatically deducted around $450 dollars from my account after requesting well in advance to pause my subscription they took funds from my card leaving me unable to buy fuel and groceries. They then kindly gave me a free year to remedy their error but then didn’t even follow through with completing the upload and reprint of my book.
When I tried to call, text and email them for help they couldn’t even respond even after I offered to pay for the upload and reprint.
I had some difficulties with sizing and print quality of my book and after several attempts and a few thousand dollars spent getting my book redesigned and resized and when it came time to complete the project my contact attempts were left unanswered and was completely ghosted.
My few sales were not remunerated and my book price value was slashed across the platforms they promoted me on with no explanation.
Recommend to find someone else.
Disappointing.

Since publishing my book two years ago, I have been really disappointed with Tablo's service. It wasn't until after publishing the book with them that I realized how expensive they charge to print the book so your royalties are minimal and the little I did make, I still haven't received the funds.

I published my book directly with Amazon last year instead and for a year have been trying to get Tablo to remove their published version of my book from amazon and delete my book from their database but this has not been successful. Now I'm not receiving any response from them at all. At this point, I'm considering seeking legal advice regarding copyright infringement because I've tried asking them nicely to remove the book for a whole year now.

Please do not use this company to publish your book, it's not worth the stress or the time.

Tablo deserves no less than 5 stars - the whole process was easy, the order was much cheaper than other quotes I got, and the finished product arrived within 10 days looking beautiful. Amazing!

When I signed up with Tablo in June of 2021, I was excited. They could help with cover art and provide not only an ebook but a POD option. Everything seemed to be moving forward. Then from late August til mid December 2021 Tablo went dark. They did not answer emails or provide any customer support. Ultimately I had to file a complaint with my credit card company to get my money back.

Though I have been writing for a while, I am officially a first time author; this was my first publication. I am absolutely delighted with the quality of service I received. I was thrilled upon receipt of author copies of my book.
It was an absolute pleasure doing business with Team Tablo, especially Georgia and Damien. I have nothing but profound thanks and appreciation for these guys. They make publishing look so easy.
I must say that the customer service is on par with the best and I am thrilled to have had this team holding my hands through my first publication. I wish them every blessing for the future and I look forward to a long-lasting relationship.

From starting out with a 5 start review to dropping back to 2 stars, it appears Tablo have got their house in order and the new Dashboard is great to track my Royalties and to have control when it pays into my Paypal account. I am happy to say I will be keeping my book #effinmoments with Tablo and look forward to growing my library with them. Seamless and Transparent Royalties = Happy author I also like how we can order author copies seamlessly.

Within a month of approaching Tablo I have author copies in hand, and the title can be ordered through bookshops and online platforms. It's an outstanding, digital-age publishing model, and the friendly young team at Tablo could not be more helpful. A great first experience with them!

Story telling brings us together, revealing ourselves to ourselves and to others. It is one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. That said, traditional publishing is frustrating, cumbersome and expensive, so costly in fact that no doubt thousands of writers over time have simply stopped trying.

And along comes Tablo.

The platform's vision statement is aspirational and ambitious with the stated goal of democratizing publishing. As a technical platform it is well conceived and brilliantly executed. I have published my first book and have three more on the platform in various stages of development. If I do have questions (and I have had many) they are immediately answered with responses from live support, in my case it is Georgia. She is encouraging and extremely competent and has knocked down any barrier that I have stumbled across. I don't know Georgia but I would not be surprised to learn that she is also an author. Her love of writing and appreciation for the writer's experience are real. I have used other platforms and not had any experience remotely matching the one I have had on Tablo. Writing, illustration, front and back imagery, formatting and layout are all made push button simple.

And then the costs. If you have tried to navigate other publishing platforms you already know that this is where many jump off, it is simply too expensive. Tablo's fee structure makes it far and away the most affordable publishing platform I have been able to find (and I have searched far and wide). There is no cost, not one dollar, until you send your book to be published and there is no printing costs to front because the format provides for printing on demand at the point of purchase. As a writer your costs are minimal. One of my books has been written for an intimate family audience and that goal is accomodated in the fee structure. I would like to illustrate a children's novel which I have already published and have just learned there is a modest fee to republish with illustrations. The dashboard embedded on the platform enable you to track sales both by country and numbers.

The developers of Tablo are mindful of the writing and publishing experience every step along the way and have freed me to do what I want to do which is simply to write and tell stories.

As I reread this review I realize it may appear to be a wee bit over the top and raise some suspicions. That said, I'm not changing a word. These comments are authentic and sincere and have come from my experience on Tablo.

Over the past couple years, I've published two books through Tablo.
I usually do the paperback plan and I have to say, it is a legit high quality product!
I did have an issue with my 1st book...it wasn't Tablo's fault, but that of the printing company. I contacted Tablo, they got on it right away and everything was made right!
They are easy to get in contact with which is wonderful! I do have to say, that I am in America and Tablo is based in Australia. Quite the time difference. Depending on the time of day I send a message, I may not get a response right away, because I realize it might be the middle of the night there, but I know I'll have a response within 12 hours usually.
I would HIGHLY recommend this publishing company! Well worth it!

I don’t know what’s wrong with these people, but they don’t follow through. They don’t respond to e-mails after you’ve signed up. Or if they do, it’s intermittent and much delayed, and nothing happens. There is no correction of a problem. I’m not sure why they would expect a client to renew and pay the fee after the first year. So I'm a new author and decided to self publish with Tablo.

Everything was relatively straight forwards, and the few things that were not were easily solvable with a convenient direct chat with staff with minimal response times.
For example, I was having difficulty formatting my book cover to the required specifications, but when asked the staff were happily able to direct me to a guide document, and even double check my work before going to print.

Best of all, until the actual publishing stage it was entirely free, allowing me to explore my options at my own pace without needing to be committed.

I would also like to also point out that publishing with Tablo is non-exclusive, allowing me to retain control of my work - very important for a new author to consider.

Overall this was a good experience, with the few confusing aspects or less clear questions of mine quickly cleared up when talking with the staff.

I do recommend the Tablo experience.

Tablo Publishing is the best. I am a first-time writer, and Tablo took my manuscript and turned it into a book. They have a way of breaking down the manuscript into chapters of a length that allows one to edit his or her work much more easily. They provided me with great cover art. They are very professional. Ash and Georgia were so great at keeping in touch and making the process manageable, even for a novice such as I. Thank you guys for all of you help.

Tablo is a great writing platform for beginners but also for people ready to publish. The team is professional and efficient. I like writing on tablo very much.

From start to finish these guys are absolute professionals, nothing is a problem and they are so quick at getting back to you. I dealt with one person the whole time which was so helpful so they knew exactly what was going on. Such a smooth process and I really loved the experience with Tablo!
