Sustainable change really works !
Before I joined Alex Neilan's sustainable change programme I had given up thinking that I would ever be able to lose weight and keep it off. Over the years my weight had increased so much that I was struggling to do all the things I had previously enjoyed. My mobility was suffering and I was completely miserable. Alex, and the team have turned my life around and set me on a journey of recovery towards a better life. Im now over 4 stone lighter and 4 dress sizes smaller. Through all the support Alex offers I'm now enjoying life to the full again. I still have a way to go to become the future me but I will get there. I can honestly say that without the support I couldn't have done it on my own. From, live sessions, mindset support, dietary advice, coaching, physio support, exercise guidance etc etc .. and a man who genuinely invests in helping you I'm so glad I took the opportunity and signed up. Sensible, honest, empowering
I have only recently joined the Sustainable Change program but my experience so far has been extremely positive. I was sceptical about the resources being free but they genuinely are. I already feel my mindset has changed and I'm confident that I can implement the simple, sensible changes that are advocated in the program which are psychological as well as physical. Any questions are answered immediately.

Life changing
I can’t remember a time when I’ve really felt happy with my weight or the way I look. Even when others said I looked great, I still felt uncomfortable in my own skin and sick of the constant yo-yo dieting. Slimming World might work short term, but for me the weight always came back on. At 56, I was starting to feel old, noticing more aches and pains, finding it hard to get up, and worrying about what the future might look like if nothing changed.
I came across Sustainable Change through Facebook and started watching Alex’s Live sessions and some YouTube videos. They really resonated with me and made me realise that this isn’t just about weight loss — it’s about mindset and long-term change. I booked a call and, although I did consider trying to do it myself using the free sessions and resources (which are great), I knew I needed more support and guidance.
What I wanted was help understanding how to eat in a healthier way, what exercise would actually work for me, and how to change my mindset. Having access to a coach and all the resources has been incredibly helpful. It’s made me aware of my blind spots and encouraged me to think about the person I want to become, not just the number on the scales.
I’m currently at week four and have already lost half a stone. More importantly, I’m already seeing benefits beyond weight loss — my balance, fitness and energy levels have improved, I’m making better choices around food and exercise, I’m never hungry, and I feel much more positive about the future.
The only reason I haven’t given 5/5 is that at the beginning it felt like a hard sell, and I felt under pressure to sign up when on the initial call and I told them I needed time to think. I asked for follow up info of what I would receive by signing up, what I got was ok, not great which made me nervous about whether I was making the right decision. That said, when I did sign up I was given access to great resources straight away and calls were set up quickly to meet my coach onboard me etc. They have also been flexible in allowing me to pay over an agreed period rather than all upfront, which I really appreciated. I would also say to read the small print on the contract if not paying upfront as the monthly processing fees I feel are high.
Aside from that, the programme has been great. I’ve learned so much already and, for the first time in a very long time, I don’t feel like I’m going to fail because I have the right support in place.

Building confidence while losing weight
I’ve battled with my weight for as long as I can remember. Years of yo‑yo dieting left me stuck in a cycle of frustration and self‑criticism. Some days I’d be utterly unkind to myself, and other days I’d put on a brave face and pretend I was fine — telling myself that maybe I was just “meant to be big.”
I’d been following Alex Neilan for a while, but on one particularly grim November day in 2025, something shifted. I decided I wanted real, lasting change. I clicked the link to learn more. After a long text conversation with Alex, I booked a one‑to‑one call to hear what The Sports Dietician could offer. Honestly, I almost backed out. Investing in myself felt unfamiliar — even uncomfortable. But something felt different this time. Alex genuinely seemed to care and really wanted to help… so I took a leap of faith and signed up.
That leap led me to my incredible coach, Siobhra. She has been my biggest cheerleader from day one. She listened — really listened — to what I wanted, what I needed, and what I could realistically commit to. Then she built a plan around me. She keeps me accountable, supports me, and gives me the push I need when I need it.
I’m now in week twelve, with Christmas/New Year and 2 holidays in that time, and I’ve still lost almost 9kg / 19.8lbs, shed a ridiculous number of centimetres — but more importantly, my confidence and wellbeing are the best they’ve been in years. My mindset has completely transformed. “Better” is now enough. I feel the fear and do it anyway. And, for the first time, I’ve learned that it’s absolutely okay to put myself first. ❤️
For once, I don’t feel like I’m “on a diet.” I’m actually enjoying my days. I started simply by increasing my steps. Then, as I got fitter, I returned to salsa classes and even joined a gym. I drink the water, eat the protein, get my steps in — and I’ve realised the gym isn’t about burning myself out. It’s about getting stronger. And that’s what makes this lifestyle sustainable. It fits into my world instead of taking over it.
If you’re struggling like I was, give this a try. Join the group. Even if you just watch from the sidelines at first, you’ll thank yourself for taking that initial step.
I’m so grateful for the support from Alex, Siobhra, Eoghan, Heidi, and so many others on the team. That’s why I’ve signed up for the EPP programme — because I owe this to myself. And I deserve it.

I love the fact that so many resources, videos, diet/exercise sheets and membership of a supportive Facebook group, have been given for FREE. Alex communicates brilliantly and totally gets the difficulties and need to change mindsets, when it comes to weight loss. I am 2lbs down and already feel like I have more energy. Biggest WIN
Back in autumn 2025 I was not happy with the direction my body and mind were going. I saw on FB The Sportdietician and started following. Quotes like: "Why wait until the right moment to change things, there is no right moment except now" , "face the fear and do it anyway", "progress not perfection"resonated in my ears. I joined 1.12.2025 Thanks to Alex and my coach Scarlett on Sustainable Change Programme, I now fit back into my favourite clothes and am a happy, more motivated person. I consider myself work in progress, striving towards maintaining my independance in mind and body for many years ahead. If anyone can relate to this, don't wait for tomorrow, do it now! A genuine guy that just wants to help you for free
I discovered Alex on Facebook a few days ago and decided to join his group advertising free information for sustainable weight loss. I’ve clicked on a few videos advertising free plans before to then find out it’s a monthly subscription, but not this one. I’ve received so much information and videos to help me lose weight and all for FREE. Alex and his team are so informative, I’ve finally found someone that tells the truth about weight loss yes you have to make changes to your lifestyle but if you don’t nothing is going to change.

Don’t do it
Have been a member of this programme since Sept/Oct 25. Initially did well, so, on the high of that, signed up for their EPP, although thought at the time, this phone call seems a bit high-pressured, but thought £275 monthly is the same as I’ve just paid…..I’ll do it. It’s £6600 for a 2 year programme, and I now find that it’s to be paid at £1,100 per month for 6 months! £275 per week! Paid through a method called Go Cardless, with no cooling off period. (Beware, you cannot cancel direct debits arranged with this company except through Sustanable Change). Not the business practice of reputable companies, I’m afraid. So, trying to contact them today to cancel and it’s all gone quiet……am I surprised? No. Beginning to sound like a scam more and more. Any reputable company would contact a customer to prevent reputations damage.
UPDATE. It appears they have blocked my email address.
Well Worth the investment
I have followed Alex for a few years, thinking I would join earlier on but was skeptical, very skeptical. Just recently he posted a few words I really resonated with so decided (still skeptical) to take a step further. We chatted via text and then I went onto sign up for a free consultation. Great move. Yes, still skeptical, I signed up to the program. Overwhelmed to say the least as to the amount of immediate support from his team became apparent. I was given a personal coach to help with this process. Andy has been amazing. Patience, flexible and completely supportive. He has made this change in lifestyle feel rather easy. I am only a few weeks in but am seeing the changes not only physically but more importantly, mentally. What great support the team give. Mindset support along with everything else. They haven't missed a thing. Well worth the investment. The only reason it is 4 rather than 5 stars is that I am only a few weeks into the process.
So I am back and amending my review to 5 stars. I am now 12 weeks in and just wow. The experience has been amazing. And yes, I have lost a good amount of weight. The attention given to the support around all aspects of this journey has been spot on. From the personal coach to whom I can contact at any given moment and receive superlative support (even if it is a hard truth to hear!) to the personalised meal plans and work out sessions. They look at each individual and create the best system for them. We also have access to each other, all the women going through this process so we can cheer each other on and support each other when the going is tough. Thank you Alex, Andy, Claire and the rest of the team for making this journey possible, successful and sustainable...

Having struggled with my weight all my life and having spent so much money on surgery and medication to no avail. I would lose weight and then regain it. This was an ongoing cycle. I never addressed the mental and emotional side of the weight loss journey until I came across Sustainable Change on my Facebook feed. It was really easy to reach out to Alex and I felt listened to for the first time in my life instead of being judged for my size. Alex and Peter (my personal coach) have taught me how to look at life differently and address my relationship with food, how to implement strategies when struggling and how to lose the weight sustainably. I have lost weight and am starting to feel my old self for the first time in 20 years. My confidence is back and it has given me a new lease on life. I have stopped thinking negatively about myself and no longer talk to myself in ways to put me down for having slips and for how I deal with things on a day-to-day basis. You get access to a multi disciplinary team so you get help from all angles. It is a very supportive community and we all spur each other on. Alex is very passionate about what he does and it is this passion that has helped me turn my life around. I cannot thank him and his team enough!

Court proceedings starting
I signed up for the free, 3 month course, which stated if you lose 10% of your body weight you get your money back. The contract is literally entitled 'Win Back'. I did, and unfortunately, I am struggling to get my money back from them. I am having to look in to court proceedings to recover my money. It's a shame it has come to this. I became suspicious when my coach said 'the return of the money has nothing to do with me'. Alex Neilan has also traded under CWP Compliance, Edinburgh Lifestyle, TheSportsDietician. Look at all the reviews. Despite several lawyer letters he is still refraining to return my fees and it's been 2.5 months since I finished the course.
Not worth the money.
Sustainable Change describes itself as "an empathy lead self development team of Dietitians, Nutritionists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Personal Trainers and Behaviour change coaches who specialise in SUSTAINABLE weight loss"
I have just completed the 12 weeks plan. I applied for the 'free programme'. You don't need to apply for this, it is simply following the posts that are available on social media. The request leads to a telephone call from the company which is a pressure selling technique, telling you all the things mentioned above are available to you for life. The original cost is £2200, but you will be offered a £200 discount if you pay in full at the time.
The 'support' is severely lacking. You will receive a 5 day food plan. This in itself is useful, but you will get this from an internet search or a personal trainer for free or much less. Over the 12 weeks, you will be offered 1 or 2 motivational psychology calls (again, you would get this constantly from a personal trainer). The 6 of us who signed up were all given the same food plan and another one was given if asked for. This appears to be the only two plans available. There are recipes available on the site, but these are also available via internet or PT. I spoke to my 'coach' twice. On searching information the coach seemed to be a good PT, but had signed a script type contract. He would have been better had I engaged him personally.
When we tried to discuss issues in our WhatsApp group we were aggressively directed not to speak to each other, or set up another group. I think this is probably to prevent us comparing plans and support which is scripted.
I became 'disengaged' and 'finding it difficult'. I had a couple of voicemails from the coach, nothing from the man with the money. Others who had not disengaged were offered a follow up call to continue with the plan. This was again pressure selling ('what will you do without us') and no follow up price is agreed. It is designed to get as much as possible from you. Their are 'sponsorships' to be won, but because the price is not transparent, the discount is not really a discount. This can be £8,000 to £16,000.
My overall summary. Don't waste your money. You will get A LOT more support and training for A LOT less money with a PT, online or face to face.

Started to follow Alex on instagram as I appreciated his direct , no nonsense approach. Was contacted as I was interested in their drop a dress size challenge. This boys an early riser btw. So by way of an early morning text conversation Alex helped me appreciate the blocks to progress . I’m not in a position to join their program at the moment but he was really encouraging and understanding. Then went above and beyond by sending me lots of free online information . Will definitely revisit their multidisciplinary approach when it’s a better time for me. Thank you for your professionalism and understanding

Changing my mindset for a healthier life
I have never been happy with my weight, although whilst at school and college I was very active and involved in most sports, including swimming. When I left school I took up badminton, but stopped swimming as I didn't like to be seen in a swimming costume. After having my 2 children the weight slowly crept up, and for most of my working life I've had neck pain and lower back pain. I had tried various methods to lose weight over the years with some success, but none of them were sustainable. Having gone through the menopause, nothing I've tried seems to make any difference any more.
It was at a very low point last October when I was juggling supporting elderly/ill parents, and trying to also help my daughter with looking after my youngest grandson while she worked, that I came across Alex Neilan and Sustainable Change on my socials. The timing was perfect. What I read about in Sustainable Change hit a chord with me, and so I took the plunge and arranged an initial call with Gavin. Everything he said rang true and made sense, and whilst being nervous about the amount of the investment, it was just what I needed, and so signed up to a 12 week programme. Having said that, if you can't commit to the progrmme, there is a lot of free training and information available to you, including a very supportive free FB group where you will be able to read about everyone's journeys and ask questions. Alex is very animated and inspirational, and does a half hour live session Mon/Thur in that FB group. He explains that life is always full of challenges, and that if you wait until the right time to invest in yourself, you'll never get around to doing it. This made sense to my situation, as if I can be kind to myself and commit to looking after me with these challenges currently happening, I should be able to keep it up through those challenges still to come in life. It will be 'sustainable'. Reading the experiences of some of the ladies in the FB group, and looking at the before and after photos, whilst being very inspirational, also made me realise that I could do that too. As Alex says ' you may be unique, but you're not special'. I have a 1:1 coach Harry, who has put together a fitness plan for me taking into account my fitness level, hip replacement just over a year ago, and weak knees. He's also taylored my meal plan around my preferences. He is there if I have any questions or concerns. So since joining SC at the end of Oct 25, I have lost 8kg, and inches off my bust, waist and hips. I exercise 3 times a week, and generally walk over 12000 steps a day. Not bad considering the hip replacent. And not just a slow amble either. I am learning more about nutrician and macros, and I'm seeing a definite shift in my mindset. I have always been a people pleaser and as I never really liked myself much, I put everyone else 1st. I've been through a lot over my life, as have most people, but now realise that I deserve to put myself first. I want to be a role model for my grandkiddies, who learn so much at this age through observation and copying, I want to be able to play with them when I get older, and I want to be as healthy as I can into my old age.
To anyone who isn't sure and sitting on the fence, whilst it is a big financial investment, if you can afford it, sign up to Sustainable Change, and change your health/life for the better, for your future.
