- Why do I have a workplace pension?
- The government’s auto enrolment laws mean all employers must put eligible employees into a workplace pension and contribute to their pension savings. NOW: Pensions provides workplace pensions for millions of members on behalf of tens of thousands of employers.
- Can I stop paying into my pension?
- Yes, you can stop paying in at any time. After being auto enrolled for one month, the pension savings you’ve saved will be invested until you retire or transfer to another pension provider. You’ll be able to see your account at nowgateway.com. If you stop paying into your pension, you’ll miss out on your employer’s contributions – at least 3% of your earnings; tax relief; and building up pension savings. Please note charges will still apply.
- Can I opt out?
- You can opt out within a month of being auto enrolled and get back any money you’ve paid in. If you opt out after a month, your pension savings will be invested until you retire or transfer to another pension provider.
- Can I have my money now?
- Pension laws mean if you don’t opt out within one month of being auto enrolled, your pension savings will be invested until you retire or transfer your savings to another pension provider. You can start to take your pension savings any time after you reach age 55.
- Why can’t I cash in my pension savings?
- After you’re auto enrolled in a workplace pension, pension laws give you one month to opt out. After a month, your pension savings will be invested until you retire or transfer your savings to another provider.
- How long does it take to transfer out?
- Once we’ve received everything we need to carry out your transfer request, payment can take up to 25 working days.
- How do I check the progress of my request?

This is the second time my account has been blocked for security reasons. Which means that since the first time I have not actually had access to my account. It has been more than 4 months.It's unbelievable! It's about people money and trust.

Avoid, avoid, avoid! I have been trying to access my account since November 2025. 3 months! It is ‘flagged for review’ and I ‘won’t be able to access for the next few weeks’. Despite several attempts I cannot get into my account. I’m sure it’s just purely a coincidence that I want to draw some money down ;) Unfortunately it’s through my employer. This pension provider definitely wouldn’t be my personal choice.

Worst Pensions ever
I have now called three separate times to request something as basic as my account number. Each time I was told it would be sent by post. Nothing has arrived. I was then advised to “call back if it doesn’t come.” I have done exactly that. After more than two hours spent on calls, I am still in the same position.
During these calls, I found the communication deeply frustrating. Rather than receiving clear answers, I experienced interruptions, vague reassurances, and repeated statements that it would “be sent out,” without any confirmation of dispatch dates or tracking. Being spoken over while trying to ask a straightforward question is not acceptable customer service.
I was also told that my email address is not on the system, despite my employer confirming it was provided. No one has been able to explain this discrepancy or offer a clear solution to update it.
At this point, it feels like a simple request has turned into an unnecessary obstacle course. For a financial provider handling long term savings, the lack of clarity, follow through, and accountability is extremely concerning.

Poor investment plus poor customer service…
I have been beyond frustrated with my experience with NOW Pensions.
Terrible Investment Performance: My pension has been poorly invested from the start. While other funds are growing, my pension value has actually decreased, leaving me worse off than when I began.
A Protracted Transfer Process: Trying to move my money to another provider has been a long, protracted nightmare (which I haven't had with other providers). At times I honestly felt like they were creating obstacles to hold my funds hostage.
Incompetent Communication: Their customer service is slow and ineffective. Getting a straight answer is very difficult, and the constant delays and frustrations have made a simple transfer feel like a full-time job.
General Incompetence: Staff who don't seem to know their own processes made the whole process time consuming and incredibly frustrating.
Bottom line: Avoid this provider at all costs (if you can). They are quick to take your money but make it an absolute battle to get it back out. I feel like the only winner here has been Now Pensions.

The worst Company I have dealt with. Told the call handler several times My Mum couldn’t talk as she is dying of COPD the calll handler kept making my Mum repeat herself even hearing her coughing and struggling to breathe!! And I explained clearly the situation she was Cold and heartless no empathy or understanding what so ever! The call handler had a foreign accent which lead to my Mum having to keep repeating herself! I asked more than 6 times to speak to a manager or superior!! Was told No! Disgusting heartless company

What a hard work they are
What a hard work they are. I just want to transfer my pension from Now to the Scottish widows. Taking a loan is easier than get my money transferred somewhere else. Didn't had problem from other company but these ones asking to much stuff and it's still not enough. First asking prove that my new pension company are not scammers and that im contributing there which is shouldn't even be their business, after sending what they need instead of confirming that, they magically found my another account with them and sending emails like "are we saying hello again?" No im not saying hello i just want you stop pretending that you are scammers yourselves.

Awful company. i have been consolidating several pension this is the only company that has made the process painful and am still awiting response to e mails.
Ask for forms to be completed uneccessarily (no other comapny has dome this) Not at all user friendly and you end uo chasing your tail

After some difficulties at first logging in and navigating the site, and thinking I was going to have problems with the company, which to be fair I think was mostly my own confusion, I cashed my (very small) pension and only waited just over a week, so I can't really report any issues of significance with my experience.

I registered with their portal last year but was unable to access it in January when I wanted to request the release of my pension.
I have been asking for my retirement fund to be released to me for over a month.
The portal is “glitchy” apparently but. What that means is it doesn’t hold your registration so everytime you need to access your pension you have to phone “customer services “ who tell you to register on the portal and give you No help whatsoever. So frustrating that such a poor company is withholding my pension and providing zero customer service.

Over a month now, I’m trying to log in to my account and the temporary password doesn’t works. Called them every week and the only thing they said is “I’ll pass the case to the team and back to you for the end of the week, maximum next week.” Emailed them but nothing solved. Ridiculous

I was told that I need to fill in a…
I was told that I need to fill in a form went into my account and there is no link to the form. So I tried to close my account down put in my account number and NI number and then got told I need to log in again and so the every circle goes on and on . I was then informed I have two pensions and I need to merge them even though one had nothing in it . Done that. And waited for my money only for the company to tell me that I had to tell them I want to cash my pension. No one told me this at all.AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Primitive
A more fitting name might be “Primitive Pensions.” The online portal does not allow users to update their postal address, which is a basic functionality I would expect from any modern financial services provider.
When I contacted customer support via live chat, I was directed to complete a paper form and submit it by post. This process feels unnecessarily outdated and inconvenient.
Fortunately, I have less than £100 invested with this provider. My primary pension is held elsewhere, which gives me reassurance. Based on the volume of similar feedback reflected in other reviews, my experience does not appear to be an isolated one.
