Melitta Colombian Supreme pre-ground coffee.
This is a review of Melitta Colombian Supreme pre ground coffee. I received this coffee as a gift. It came in an 11oz metal can. According to the Melitta USA website a 11 oz can is $7.46 which works out to be approximately 68 cents/ounce. At 68 cents per ounce it puts it in the middle/lower end of the coffee spectrum. The metal can it came packaged in was stout, came with a plastic lid and the coffee inside was vacuum packaged. It had a use by date of one year in advance and if done correctly the vacuum packaging should keep the coffee fresh inside the can for several years and drinkable for many year into the future. The can had some Melitta history on it, recommended brewing instructions and little else about the coffee inside the can other than 100% coffee. No other information was available, no information about Arabica or Robusta beans just 100% coffee. This coffee claims to be a medium roast and a extra fine grind.
Unfortunately when I went to use this coffee the can had lost its vacuum seal and upon opening the can the coffee had no aroma.
I was afraid this coffee was doomed from the start. To keep the review to a minimum I tried three 1.2 liter pots.
One 30 gram, one 35 gram and one 40 gram and my suspicions were correct. This can of coffee because it lost its vacuum seal was brewed up just nasty. Stale metallic brown water with a lingering after taste of boiled vegetables and straw.
It is a shame because I think it could have had potential. I had no way to tell exactly how long this can had been without its vacuum seal but I thought from my last experience with canned Melitta coffee I should at least give it a chance. Hence the two star rating. I can't even say I do or do not recommend it. All I can say is I tried and failed.
