I am a seed funder of Chip and I am appalled at their practices to lock you into their Smart Cash ISA.

It’s very hard / almost impossible for the smart cash isa to be transferred, take a look at all the other 1 star reviews.

Chip contacted me to say the rate would be slashed on my existing ISA so to maintain a not fantastic return rather than the dismal return promised I would need to move into the Smart ISA.

After realising the long term rate was not good compared to alternatives I tried to transfer it to some high street names and one of them confided that they can’t accept a transfer of this particular product because it is sub invested across a number of platforms, don’t remember chip telling me that when they bullied me into an internal transfer.

Hate to say it as someone who financially backed this organisation with hard earned cash….buyer beware, there are better more open and transparent organisations offering similar services with better products and better ethics.

I notice today that Chip is now feeding competitive rates for new customers, what about the people who stayed loyal to you and even funded you.

Had the usual BS from the in app support, but now wonder how do I move this ISA without losing its ISA status.

Chip recently forced all Cash ISA customers onto their new Smart Cash ISA, which has incredibly anti-customer restrictions around being able to transfer your ISA to another provider.

For anyone trying to transfer funds in their Smart Cash ISA, Chip will claw back any unpaid interest owed to you on the day of moving.

Interest is paid monthly but what the terms don’t make explicit is that the interest is paid mid-month the following month, so you are guaranteed to lose at least two weeks’ interest when attempting to move.

Not content with this, Chip don’t provide a sort code or account number for the Smart Cash ISA so you are unable to use the expedited electronic transfer system between providers and need to submit a paper form to request a transfer. This can take over two weeks, further racking up the interest Chip will claw back and making it impossible to try and minimise your losses. All in, you could lose 6 weeks’ interest - it’s completely unacceptable.

But not monthly as I regularly get emails saying they couldn't take the monthly payments. Very time consuming to add bank details again, only for nothing to happen. Doesn't seem to be as many saving accounts on offer now either.

Hook you into a reasonable interest rate then cut it to an appalling one. Sneaky.

I’ve been saving with Chip.for awhile, the interest is good it’s always been easy to manage. When I reached out for help the response was quick and friendly, the instructions were easy to follow my issue was fix the same day.

I've been using the Chip app for several years now and I am very happy with it. Chip makes it easy to invest with already made up portfolios, depending on what amount of risk you want to take. The commission rates that they charge are pretty reasonable.
Chip also have several competitive saving products.
They have just brought out wealth tiers which give you extra benefits when you reach them.
The app is easy to follow,use and all information relating to any of their products is easy to understand instead of a load of jargon that you don't understand.
I'm definitely happy with the service that I've received from them and have no intention of moving away from them.

Always improving the app, customer service is good when needed and rates are competitive.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my year that I had with Chip. At the time of sign-up, I was given a really good rate for my savings, and the app was really simple to follow. Now what a lot of these companies may not realise is, anybody with savings, who happens to find themselves on Universal Credit at some point in their lives, the DWP, when you're inputting your finances into their system, it requires the last 4 digits of a bank account number. Some of the companies, don't give actual account numbers just in digits anymore, and use letters. This wasn't the case with Chip, so I was able to keep the DWP informed about my finances properly. It helps when it comes to your check up for proving that no fraud is involved, as these checks are stringent now by the DWP. Also, at the end of my account maturing with Chip, I was very tempted to stay, but found a deal with another company that offered me a better interest at the time, for the next 12 months. I contacted Chip about closing my account and Ryan A was brilliant. He responded within a matter of hours checking my details for security, which is vitally important, especially with all the scams going on these days, then closed my account, followed by a few days later, after the system generated them, emailing me a pdf file of my closing statement. This is also vital for DWP when closing an account. I would certainly return to Chip in the future without hesitation, should the interest rate I'm offered, ever improve again. Their rates seem good, but only for introductory period and only available to new customers. No good rates for existing customers which is a poor business model because then they lose those customers.
They seem only interested in attracting new business and no focus on retention.
