The car rental Drive on holidays or Movida is pure fraud.
Their business model is to trick people into not being able to rent under the reservation with booking and they force you to buy another car rental agreement.
They ask you for two credit cards and deposit of 4000 Euro payable only by credit card. I have three golden cards, but only one credit card with lower limit. They refused to debit my debit card and refused to rent me the car. At the end they sold me a differnt car. They said that this could not be done under the original contract. So they chargem another 100 Euro for another rental.
The result was that we paid double the price than we booked for and got much worse car than we booked.
From the rental officer conduct was clear that this is their standard practise. I rent cars often and never saw this.
It is pure fraud.
I strongly object to booking.com promoting and intermediating such a fraudulent business.
Uns wurde vor Ort versucht, weitere Versicherungsleistungen anzudrehen. Alles in schlechtem und schnellen englisch. Zusatzkosten wurden immer nur ganz schnell nebenbei erwähnt, sodass man sie gut überhören konnte. Die Vertragsbedingungen wichen komplett dem ab, was wir vorher bei Check24 unterschrieben haben und die Kaution war plötzlich das 3-fache von dem vorher abgesprochenen.
Terrible experience. We arrived at the airport, and it took them a very long time to pick us up with the shuttle — which wasn’t even from the company, but from another one nearby. Then they asked us to put a 9-year-old child on an adult’s lap so they could fit more people. When we finally arrived, the check-in was quick only because there was just one person attending and a long line of people waiting. Awful service.

Recently used this company in Lisbon. It took 1 hour and 40 minutes from pick up at the airport to actually getting my car. The staff were helpful, but the system absolutely inefficient and archaic for this day and age.
On returning the car I had to pay an additional €33 for returning it before the office opens! That is one thing, which might be in the terms and conditions, but the way this was presented to me by the member of staff was without empathy, full explanation of alternatives and rude.
Staff need training in how to work professionally with people.

I was surprised to be forced to provide two credit cards at pickup — something I was never told when I booked. Because I didn’t know, I had to pay an extra “additional driver” fee so another person’s card could cover a €70 highway deposit. This felt like a hidden charge. The two-card rule is buried in the fine print and isn’t standard with other rental companies — misleading and unacceptable.

Je déconseille très vivement cette société. J’avais réservé un véhicule plusieurs semaines à l’avance, tout était payé, confirmé et en règle. À mon arrivée sur place, l’agence a refusé de me remettre la voiture sous prétexte que ma carte Visa Débit n’était pas valable pour la caution, alors qu’elle a bien servi à payer la réservation.
Le plus scandaleux : aucune solution alternative ne m’a été proposée. Ma femme et moi avons été abandonnés littéralement dans la rue, sans véhicule, dans un pays étranger. Plusieurs autres clients ont connu exactement la même mésaventure au même moment. C’est manifestement une pratique systématique et abusive.
Booking est parfaitement au courant que la carte utilisée est une carte Visa Débit – comme c’est le cas pour 99 % des Français – et rien ne précisait clairement qu’une carte de crédit physique était obligatoire. Il s’agit donc d’une publicité trompeuse et d’une arnaque déguisée.
Non seulement j’exige un remboursement intégral immédiat, mais je vais également signaler cette société aux autorités compétentes et appeler publiquement au boycott. Un service aussi irrespectueux, malhonnête et méprisant des clients ne devrait tout simplement pas avoir le droit d’exister.
Fuyez cette société si vous ne voulez pas gâcher vos vacances et vous retrouver sans voiture du jour au lendemain !
I paid for a 12-day car rental through rentalcars.com. Before traveling, I called Drive on Holidays and clearly asked what documents I needed. The manager told me very clearly: PASSPORT and DRIVER’S LICENSE (there should even be a recording of that call). I came all the way from Fernao Ferro by taxi, and then they refused to give me the car because I did not have the physical card with me.
Now I checked my account and saw that there was no refund at all. I called Drive on Holidays – they said it’s not their responsibility and told me to contact the broker. I called rentalcars.com and they said it was MY fault and that they cannot refund anything for a car I never even got to see or drive.
This is a terrible experience – misleading information, no transparency, no help, and absolutely no respect for the customer. I strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND this service!
Terrible experience at pickup. Trying to sell a extremely overpriced insurance to lower the amount of the deposit. The insurance was twice the price of the car rental itself. You need a credit card limit of 4.000€ or higher, otherwise you have to pay the insurance. The car looked like it made a 360 on the highway. The colleague forgot to give us the key during pickup and tried to gaslight us. We waited more than an hour to pick up the car. Wouldn’t recommend it at all. The shuttle service was the only positive thing.
Like everyone else is saying, huge deposit required as a 'hold' despite coverage via credit card provider. They blame the 'broker, that you book through. And they also don't do a damage all-around of vehicles. AVOID.

Não dou zero porque não existe essa opção. Empresa totalmente despreocupada com os clientes, não oferece suporte nem soluções. Péssima experiência, não recomendo.
Aluguei um carro por 21 dias e tive um sinistro apenas com a perda da chave. Mesmo tendo contratado seguro contra todos os riscos, fui obrigado a pagar 750€ no balcão pela chave. Estou há 5 dias sem carro, pois a empresa afirma não ter chave reserva para disponibilizar outro veículo.
A linha de apoio não resolve nada, não dá informações e a loja também não oferece nenhuma solução. Ou seja, paguei por um serviço que não estou a receber. Situação completamente injusta e abusiva. Não recomendo esta empresa de forma alguma.
Worst car rental experience ever. The car broke down (clutch failure) less than a day after renting it, and instead of helping us, they made us pay an extra €1500 for another car. No proper inspection was done, and the expensive insurance we paid for (over €150) was useless because in the fine print it excludes exactly this kind of problem. Total scam, avoid this company at all costs! Save yourself the stress, choose another company.
Die Auto Übernahme und Rückgabe war relativ problemlos. Allerdings wurde unsere Mautzahlung offensichtlich nicht weiter gegeben an Via Verde, dem portugiesischen Autobahnbetreiber.
Von denen erhielten wir nämlich Monate später plötzlich Zahlungsaufforderungen samt Drohungen mit Inkasso Büros.
Nach Rücksprache mit einem Anwalt habe ich die Rechnung von Via Verde auch noch bezahlt. Der Verleiher sollte mir dann das Geld erstatten. Hat er aber nur teilweise gemacht, so daß ich bis heute auf das restliche Geld warte.

Je suis allé à Porto pour passer une semaine de vacances, et j’ai réservé une voiture chez drive on holidays avec mon billet d’avion Easyjet. J’arrive chez Drive on holidays pour prendre la voiture, les fonctionnaires me l’ont refusé, soit disant parce que j’avais une carte de débit et pas une carte de crédit.
Conclusion, je n’ai pas pu prendre la voiture et l’entreprise ne m’a pas remboursé l’argent de la réservation de la voiture.
Dou 1 estrela porque infelizmente 0 não há. Pior experiencia da minha vida. Para além de 7 horas para receber o carro que já estava PAGO e com SEGURO, exigiram 5000 eur de franquia, só porque o carro estava em nome do amigo que não era português. Estava indicado que o carro seria novinho em folha, e passado 7 horas vieram trazer um carro que estava amolgado por todos os lados, nem uma única peça viva. Quando tentei filmar o carro a volta, para não virem dizer que fui eu, a mulher super mal educada que estava ao serviço quase que me mandou o iphone ao chão a saltar na minha frente e dizer que não posso filmar. Para entregar o carro também foi uma complicação. O carro veio com deposito a 1/4 (devia estar cheio). Incompetência de alto nível.
They charged us an extra £250 at the desk (for a hire car costing £150), because we didn’t have a credit card. They wouldn’t let us cancel or modify the booking, they accepted no responsibility for anything and said we had to call customer services, terrible terrible customer experience.
Hired a car from drive on holidays (Movida) through Zest car rental. My car was upgraded from Renault Capture to excellent condition Dacia Duster SUV, Staff at their Faro rental office was very helpful and efficient. Hold up deposit was promptly released back on my card. Overall 5 star experience. Thank you

Absolute nightmare! Arrived on time to pick up the car that was rented on advanced and paid for.. there was no car available, no information on when it would be, or if there would be another one of the same category available anytime soon. The staff was under trained, uninformed and absolutely clueless. The guy showed up with a handwritten paper saying that the insurance that was already hired wouldn’t cover for the a potential clutch damage and so we would have to hire another one that would cost 180€ or leave a deposit fee of 100€. On top of that we had to leave a deposit fee of 2000€, that would be returned if the car was returned without any damage. Overall the worst car rental experience I have ever had.
