Pratique abusive et manque total de transparence
Réservation confirmée, paiement effectué… et pourtant véhicule refusé au comptoir à Funchal.
Motif : absence de carte de crédit, alors que je disposais d’une carte de débit valide.
Cette condition essentielle n’est ni clairement ni visiblement expliquée lors de la réservation, ce qui revient à faire déplacer le client pour ensuite lui refuser le service.
Résultat : temps perdu, stress inutile, aucun véhicule, et obligation de louer ailleurs en urgence à un tarif bien plus élevé.
Ce type de fonctionnement s’apparente davantage à une pratique piégeuse qu’à un service professionnel. Une réservation confirmée devrait garantir l’accès au véhicule ou, à défaut, un remboursement immédiat.
Je déconseille fortement cette société, en particulier aux voyageurs internationaux.
It’s a total scam. They’re not open 24 hours even though some websites indicate that. Their online check-in link doesn't work and the pick-up from the airport is not reliable. A total scam. Run as fast as possible away from this scam.
Wir hatten 2 Wochen ein Auto in Faro gemietet. Nun bekommen wir unsere Versicherungs-Selbstbeteildigung und die vorab bezahlte "Autobahnmaut" nicht zurück. Ganz schreckliche Geschäftspraktiken.
My Japanese friend rented a car from this company in Lisbon and the car had a tyre puncture. They said she had to either take a taxi back to Lisbon to get a replacement car or go to the nearest garage to get the tyre changed and give them the receipt for reimbursement. She submitted the invoice and her credit card payment details and the company then told her the cost of repairs for the puncture was for the hirer to bear even though she had bought full car insurance with no excess from them. This was in July 2025 and till now they are still refusing to pay the euro 400 that they said they would refund her. They are not very trust worthy because they confirmed in writing that they would refund her costs if she did what they recommended.
We arrived to pick up the car we had reserved, but the rental company tried to give us a different vehicle — not automatic and not the same size as booked. They first asked for a credit card, which was fine, and then a €5,000 deposit, which was also acceptable. However, after that they demanded a second physical credit card, something that was never mentioned in the booking conditions.
Their staff told us they did not speak English and asked for our voucher to be translated on a mobile app. Later they claimed that Rentals.com had provided incorrect information and that we should complain to them.
From my experience, it looks like this company regularly uses such tactics to pressure customers into accepting different cars or additional charges. In my opinion, their practices are misleading and potentially fraudulent.
I consider it normal to notify all relevant authorities in this case, especially since many customer reviews confirm these misleading practices.
Absolutely fantastic service in Faro, Portugal from Movida/Drive on Holidays!
Collected and dropped off at P4 car park by their, orange van.
Spotless and very efficient depot is a 2 minute journey.
€70 refundable deposit to cover toll fees and, (reasonable) €1100 refundable deposit for damage.
Car had minor damage all over due to careless renters but nothing meriting being recorded or causing any problem.
Booked through Discover Cars and total cost was embarrassingly cheap considering the service provided.
Purchased the excess, insurance cover via the booking agents as didn’t know cost of that with Movida but got no hassle about that at the depot and no problem whatsoever at drop off where they’re looking for only sizeable damage.
Given our experience, can’t recommend this company highly enough and really don’t understand the extent of the negative reviews.
16 day car hire of a Fiat 500 for £50! 🙈
We had booked 2 cars through this company. We had told the counter staff that we did not require their excess insurance as we had purchased our own. During the checkout multiple swipes of our cards were taken for fuel, tolls, and refundable deposit. The booking process was done digitally and we were asked to sign a blank screen. The documents would be sent by email. My wifes booking form was not delived until 3 hrs after we had left the rental office. Mine never appeared at all. It was only when we returned home that we discovered they had added £265 insurance cover on each car. Which we declined in the office, and was added later once we had left. We have made complaints and received little response. Do not touch this company with a barge pole !!
Mir wurde am Schalter die Herausgabe des Mietwagens verweigert, weil ich angeblich 2 Kreditkarten auf meinen Namen hätte vorlegen müssen.
Ich hatte eine Mastercard auf meinen Namen, wie es in den Bedingungen stand.
Ich hatte weitere Karten (AmEx sowie Visa Debit), diese wurden aber nicht akzeptiert.
Der Kundenservice von Booking.com bat mit telefonisch lediglich die kostenfreie Stornierung sowie einen Rabatt für künftige Buchungen an, welcher dann aber gar nicht verwendbar war, wie sich später herausstellte.
Eine Lieferung der vereinbarten Leistungen wurde verweigert.
Ich war nun gezwungen, meinen Transport in Portugal auf eigene Faust zu organisieren.

I used Driver On Holidays in Portugal Faro Airport. We had a car for the week and on arrival they advised we had to pay deposits for the car, which is fine and expected when hiring a car abroad. I was told there were 3 deposits required and all three would be refunded once car is returned. I returned the car back and was advised all was okay but only 2 out of the 3 deposits got refunded and im still £170 down. I have emailed and they have advised this was insurance which I signed for on arrival but when I spoke to the advisor he advised all deposits would be refunded. Im still waiting on a response on my latest email, but I would avoid this company!!
A FUIR... Prix annoncé très attractifs, mais les conditions pour les obtenir sont INSURMONTABLES. J'ai réservé une Peugeot 3008, et pour cette voiture, il demandaient deux cautions de 3750€, de deux cartes de CRÉDIT (attention, pas carte de Débit) à mon PROPRE NOM (même pas la carte de ma femme). Qui aujourd'hui, possède et voyage avec deux cartes de CRÉDIT? et combien ont des limites de cette valeur?
Bref... dans la plupart des cas, vous vous retrouverez pris en otage et devrez payer l'assurance "maison" très cher qui vous donne le droit de laisser une caution plus basse avec une carte de DÉBIT (ouf!).
After 3 months we suddenly got a bill from the drive on holiday/Movida in Portugal regarding a misfuelling on the car that we returned at the 31 of July. I find it very unprofessional that you do not inform me before you redraw money from my creditcard without any information.

Please think twice before hiring a car from Drive on holidays . I paid nearly £800 for a 7-seater for 10 days. On Day 2 I had a puncture, and assumed that the insurance they sold me, which covered absolutely everything, would cover this. Big mistake. They sent a recovery truck to pick up the car, but sadly the truck driver didn’t know where he was supposed to take it. I had booked the 7-seater as my daughter was getting married in Portugal and I was supposed to be taking the bridal party to the venue. They ended up having to pay for taxis to the venue at huge expense. It took Movida 3 days to sort the pucture out, charging me £269 for a new tyre. When the car was returned to me, it was quite clear that the tyre nad been repaired not changed, but they maintain that the tyre was changed. I have photos to prove that this was not the case. I asked them to reimburse the cost of the taxis and the difference between hiring a 7-seater and the 4-seater they provided me for the 3 days ( as a gesture of goodwill) but they say that I’m not entitled to any compensation. I have been hiring cars abroad for over 40 years and never experienced such shocking service. And you have to pay an additional £33 if you want to return the car before 08.00am on the day of departure!!!
Our first red flag should have been that during pickup someone else was complaining about extra charges. We had chosen them bc our travel credit card had them listed on their site (#1 we should've done our own research) and then we put the wrong gas in the car (I get that, totally our fault) but we didn't drive it anywhere. Their customer service was good in that regard (they arranged a tow truck and taxi --all covered by that pricey insurance we didn't understand but got at the time)...and we got a different car. They charged us 2,000 euros...which even then I understood bc anyone could "say" they hadn't driven the car and I thought it would be sorted once the mechanic drained the car and we would only actually be charged the amount it cost to fix (which according to google should have been $350 at most). No. They continued to charge us the 2k euros even though it was rented out to someone else the VERY next day. We disputed it with our cc company but Movida/Drive on Holiday gave them some illegible receipt. We will NEVER rent from a small company again and especially not them. We loved Portugal but they really left a sour taste for their scammy behavior.

I rented a car online for €160 for 10 days. When I booked, I didn't include insurance because I thought it would be better to get it through Movida. The day I picked up the car, they told me I had to either pay a €2,600 deposit or get insurance for €450 or €650 (approximate amounts). I found these prices completely absurd and think it must be a tourist trap. I've never paid so much for insurance when renting a car before. In my case, I'm not a tourist, so I felt quite cheated. I don't think this encourages customers to rent a car again with Movida, and I'm certainly not interested in repeating the experience.
The service was terrible. We were given a damaged car and had to come back to exchange it. We were charged for early drop off and had to call a taxi to the airport because the employee was late.
Der Verkäufer hat eine Versicherung verkauft obwohl ich das mehrfach abgelehnt habe. Er hat es dann trotzdem abgebucht ohne das ich es vor Ort gemerkt habe. Vorsichtig sein, nicht zu empfehlen.
via sunnycars moesten we in lissabon op het vliegveld bij dit bedrijf onze huurauto ophalen. in de hal waar je je moest melden stonden meer dan 30 mensen te wachten op een auto, de meeste boos. de wachttijd tot je eindelijk je auto had was, in ons geval, drie uur. wij hadden via sunnycars alle gegevens al opgegeven, maar het was hier blijkbaar toch ingewikkeld. er waren 10 service desks om de mensen te helpen, maar de meest waren niet bemand. wat een slecht begin een vakantie. ze hanteren ook de naam movida, pas op om hier te boeken!
