Hands down the worst experience I have ever had buying a car.
I contacted Lee about buying the BMW 4 Series (LO17VOC) and arranged to view the car on 09/09. Test drove the car, Lee did not show me around the car or talk through it, but I was so excited by the car I did not think anything of it. Paid a deposit and agreed to buy it when my car had sold. I picked up the car on 14/09.
I did ask about the service and Lee said it was "written on the invoice", each BMW has the service history built into the infotainment system. Imagine explaining that to someone you were selling the car to? No service mate, it's just on the piece of paper I could have written myself..
The next day (15/09) the car went into limp mode, drivetrain issue and had zero power. Managed to drive it home and contacted Lee the next morning. I was met with an EXTREMELY patronising "it's fine don't worry, it's fine, we'll sort it" no apologies for the car breaking in less than 24 hours.
Took it to Lee on 16/09. He called me a few hours later to say it was the EGR valve which would be replaced Monday when the part arrives and the engineers are in.
He gave me a Fiat 500 courtesy car, "don't worry mate it's got loads of fuel in it" it only had a 1/4 of a tank and he knew I had to drive 1.5hrs home. The form for the courtesy car stipulated I have to insure myself - another way of cutting corners to save money (I've been a commercial insurance broker for almost 10 years and never seen a policy whereby customers have to insure a courtesy car)
I asked if he could pay towards the costs incurred (fuel, insurance) but was told "no, that's not something we do" after you've sold a broken car you'd think they would contribute.
They then "fixed" it and I picked up the car on 18/09. It drove like a can of spanners. Took it to Howards BMW and they confirmed that the new part Castle fitted was not coded to the car and showed the same issue and would probably go into limp mode (considering they sell high end cars, you'd think they would invest in the kit needed).
Needing the car for work, I continued to drive it with the intention of calling Lee. On 22/09, I had it diagnosed again and the EGR valve again showed as abnormal. The code was cleared, to see whether it came up again after the weekend. 26/09 it went back into limp mode.
I called Lee yet again on the same day to explain the situation and he came back with "it's fine, don't worry, bring it in and we'll sort it" in a sarcastic, patronising manner - bearing in mind he knows it's a 3hr round trip for me to bring it back. I asked if there was any way the car could be collected by them, as driving in limp mode was not advised - especially for long journeys. Lee said it's not something they do. I expressed my frustration to him as this would cause me to be further out of pocket to insure the courtesy car and 6hrs of driving to drop it off and collect it when it was "fixed", and no apologies were made and I was told "this is something that happens with old and new cars, not our fault, we didn't make the car"... Castle Motors showed no attempt to alleviate the stress and inconvenience of the situation occurring for the second time in less than two weeks.
Having lost confidence in Castle Motors and their ability to rectify the situation and fix the car to the standard expected, I suggested taking it to a well-known/trusted BMW specialist as this is what the car needed and was local to me. He declined and said "under the warranty, it needs to be fixed by us" but given the history, their engineers clearly just cleared the error on the diagnostic as opposed to actually fixing the issue. I declined and promptly asked to return the car for a full refund (a side note; on my paperwork no warranty had been selected, and I was not made aware of what I was entitled to prior to this conversation).
Lee said "you can't do that, we need to have the opportunity to fix the problem first" I explained he has had the chance and reminded him of my rights under the Consumer Act as the vehicle was faulty upon purchase. He then agreed to refund me.
Returned the car on 30/09 and was left waiting for Dale to finish a 20 minute phone call. I was passed to Dean who issued my refund. No apologies or remorse for a horrible experience. Left feeling relieved I wouldn't have to deal with them again.
2/10 looked at their website and saw the car is up for sale with an additional owner and an extra 400 miles on the clock - listed for £750 more than I paid.
Lee's customer service skills need improvement along with the level of compassion shown for those whom he has caused a huge inconvenience.
Considering the company turned over £34m last year, is it too much to ask to apologise and let me take it to a BMW specialist? Clearly they are only interested in those who purchase cars where they make a bigger profit-I wonder if I'd experience a better service if I had bought one of their Ferrari's?

I purchased a second hand Honda Jazz car from Castle Motors having seen the advertisement on the AA Cars website. Having submitted an enquiry form, via the above website on Sunday 19th March, I was telephoned later that day by Richard to advise me that the car was still available. I arranged to visit their showroom on Tuesday 21st March. The car was exactly as described and Richard spent a lot of time advising us of the car's previous history with supporting documentation about service history etc. Following a test drive, I was happy to purchase the car and am delighted with it. I would also add that, not living close to Fleet, Richard arranged for the car to be delivered to us at a very reasonable charge. The whole experience of buying from Castle Motors was a pleasure and, being of the older generation, we very much appreciated the time and trouble taken to explain everything so clearly. Would highly recommend Castle Motors to anyone wishing to purchase a second-hand car.

Bought a Corvette from them with a Dry Sumped 6.2 litre V8....said they had serviced it from new...their mechanic is obviously not aware that the dry sump takes 9+litres of oil not the 6.6 litres the mechanic had wrote on the service sheet....6.6 litres is for the non dry sumped engine...very poor
Purchasing my dream car has been a misery
Bought an F80 M3 at the end of January, shortly after purchase noticed very high oil consumption. Castle inspected the car, said there we no leaks and told me I'd overfilled it. Returned the next month with the same issue and reports of blue smoke from the exhaust (which I had videoed and showed the salesman), they then told me to do 500 miles and bring the car back. Completed this and they then said that the oil consumption was "within BMW limits" (which to my calculation it was not) but still had no explanation for the blue smoke the technician tried to fob the issue off as the car had and aftermarket exhaust, which anyone with basic mechanical knowledge would know does not effect the blue smoke being emitted. I showed the video of the smoke to the technician who had never seen it before, despite the salesman I spoke to telling me he would show the technician. They then took the car back again and after seeing the independent automotive engineers report I had had done; saying the turbos were more than likely leaking oil into the exhaust, finally admitted fault with the car. A week later I was called saying the car was fixed, I had no other communication about what the issue was or how it had been resolved. I asked for an invoice for the work that had been carried out and was give a receipt for a Euro Car Parts aftermarket turbo (on a very expensive, high performance car) and that was it. I have since had the car inspected by a well regarded BMW specialist who have identified multiple issues with the installation of the new turbo, along with the bad build quality of the turbo itself and to top it all off, the other turbo (that wasn't replaced) is leaking oil too. So I'm now on the 7th month of ownership and all Castle have succeed in doing is lying, wasting my time (and money), not rectifying the fault with the car they sold to me and making my dream car ownership a misery. Absolutely will not be recommending to anyone.

Wouldn’t by a wheelbarrow from them took independent engineers report to get car sort of fixed because they refused to recognise fault had car checked over after they had repaired basically it was a bodge to get me out of their hair cost me £2500 to put right after spending £30000.00 ….never again the whole experience has been a nightmare and at times very confrontational on their part buyer beware! CAREFUL MAKING A DEPOSIT
I traveled to Castle Motors on the 9th April for opening time at 8am. To view a red RS6.
It was as advertised and quite accurate.
I decided to buy it but the trade in price for my car was well below what I’d expected.
So I asked what would be the deposit needed for them to hold the car while I Tryed to sell my car myself. The deposit was £5000 under the understanding I had 2 weeks to sell my car. I signed a document which stated the deposit and the trade in for my car
Nothing was stated about the timeframe.
I put my car on Autotrader the same day. A trader called me with 2 hours and offered me £5000 MORE than Castle Motors! Gave me a deposit over the phone and collected the car the next day on Sunday. They did knock me down £500 as some paint needed correction which is exactly what Castle Motors stated. But still I got an extra £4500!!! The next day.
But once I’d sold my car I started to think of the money I’d lost on it. And the money I will loose on a newer car.
So On the Monday 11th April at 8.15am I called Castle Motors to say I’ve changed my mind (also I was worried about my job security from information at work that morning). I also stated my job was in danger.
Of course they would be entitled to the whole deposit legally .
I received a phone call back saying they would take £1000 plus vat so a total of £1200.
I was relieved I was getting most of it back but think it’s a bit harsh for just 2 days to cost me £1200!
We did have a verbal agreement I could take 2 weeks to sell my car and that’s what the large deposit was for, so since I got back within 2 days I think it’s morally wrong what happened. Maybe a £500 fee would of been plenty but just my view since it was a very short period of time.
I’ve put £500 deposit on a new motorcycle before now without paying anything else for weeks. Again just my experience.
But just be careful giving them a large deposit just incase your circumstances change or you change your mind.
I have no idea of re advertising costs for the car ( cost me £50 on autotrader for 3 weeks)
But another life lesson learned I guess.
Expensive life lesson!!!!

Excellent 10/10 very good experience good staff travelled from Nottingham down to Cornwall car was as described fair part exchange price, good price on the Land Rover I bought. Having usually brought my cars from the main dealer the hand over was excellent making it a great day all round . Will definitely be buying from castle motors again in 2/3 years if they have the right car for me again.
