I’ve rarely experienced such a poor first impression from an insurance company.

After deciding to take out a policy with Boom Insurance, I encountered payment issues and errors almost immediately. Mistakes can happen, but what matters is how a company deals with them — and unfortunately, this is where Boom really fell short with an AI bot to deal with.

I paid a deposit with a recognised debit card, funds left my account but that’s where it went downhill, the page went blank, no policy details, no way of getting any reference numbers etc. Not even an email confirmation. Nothing.

Trying to get proper help was incredibly frustrating. For an insurance company, the lack of accessible customer service and limited ways to actually contact someone is completely unacceptable in my opinion.

When you’re dealing with insurance, you need to know that if something goes wrong, there is a real person available who can help. Instead, I was left feeling like I was trying to navigate a system rather than dealing with a company that actually valued its customers.

The problems I experienced yesterday were enough to completely destroy my confidence in the company before I’d even properly started my policy.

And that says a lot.

I’ve now decided not to proceed with Boom Insurance. I have requested for any funds to be returned by my bank so going forward I don’t require any further support from them. I simply won’t be giving them my business.

For me, insurance is about trust, reliability and knowing someone is there when you need them. Based on my experience so far, Boom failed to provide any of those things.

If this is how customers have to deal with stuff before they even become customers, I’d hate to think what the experience would be like when you actually need to make a claim.

Needless to say, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

This company is absolutely ridiculous I have been insured with them just short of 2 weeks. Today I had a front and rear dash cam installed, I have declared it with them and they are now charging me £104 extra how ridiculous!! Most insurance companies keep your insurance the same or offer a discount of 10-15% in no way was I look for a discount but was certainly looking for my insurance to stay the same. What an absolute joke of a company stay clear and insure elsewhere. Absolutely nothing they can do they said, just money hungry fools clearly!
