Very prompt responses to draft submissions as well as all subsequent correspondence, all with friendly courtesy and professional expertise. The Book Guild team could not be more helpful and encouraging.

We connected the Book Guild by email in reg to a publishing book that is due to be launches at the end of May. We were brushed off with an email telling us to go to the author, the book is another vanity chasing author happy to expose all of our families closes moments without any discussion with family members. The family issue is there I agree, we wanted to ensure you were aware of the incorrect items within the book that are both factually incorrect and were never experienced by the author.

I am currently in the process of having my third book published by The Book Guild and couldn’t be happier. Although this process is still underway, I have no doubt that it will proceed as smoothly as the production of my first two books. This involved efficient commissioning, helpful editing, designing eye-catching covers, expert typesetting, timely printing and, last but not least, ensuring that the finished books looked superb. Moreover, post-production marketing was thorough and the despatch of the printed books prompt. It doesn’t get much better than that! And what has spurred me to write this review now – after the completion of the copy edit of my third book – is my gratitude to the Copy Editor, who made some excellent suggestions for improvement. Having followed these suggestions to the letter, I can see that my book has greatly benefitted and am very grateful. What is more, since the start of my involvement with The Book Guild, all its staff with whom I have had dealings have been courteous, prompt, responsive, accommodating and helpful – in short, a delight to work with. I am overjoyed to have found my dream publisher!

From Day One up until delivering advance copies of my book, The Book Guild have quickly and scrupulously answered my queries. Throughout the entire process of getting my first book printed I have mainly liaised with the same person, Carolina Santos (taking Holly’s place after she left the company), and she has provided not only continuity but has been an absolute pleasure. All the staff have been uniformly excellent. I’m full of admiration for the company. Their attention to detail is to be admired and the process of copy-editing, proof-reading and typesetting my manuscript was an excellent example of this as (alongside all the usual cross-checking) it had some 15 pages of unconventional text layout and we worked hard together to get this right. I’m very happy with the end result. The book was beautifully laid out, with good quality paper and the cover’s sumptuous colours and debossing (embossing in reverse) made it a very impressive object in its own right. As someone who is very pernickety about book production this had been an ongoing concern: what if it looked a bit cheap or naff? Well it didn’t, I’m very happy to report. So kudos to The Book Guild, my publisher.

Star Quest Academy is my debut middle-grade novel, and The Book Guild has been exemplary as its publisher. I am a member of the Society of Authors, whose legal team checked the contract, and it passed with flying colours after only a couple of queries that were answered immediately to their complete satisfaction.
I felt supported and involved throughout the process by professionals who are experts in their fields. In fact, high levels of professionalism, expertise, efficiency and friendliness were consistent throughout the company. Whenever I had a query, no matter how trivial, or needed support, someone was always readily available to help.
I always felt respected as the author and a part of the team.

The Book Guild has published my two novels. On both occasions the various departments worked cohesively to produced a beautiful book and were very easy to deal with. All of their communication was clear and prompt, and their friendly and courteous service meant the whole process was enjoyable and stress-free. Obviously I would prefer a deal involving a huge advance with a big publishing house, but I'm realistic and will very happily turn to The Book Guild again when I have completed my next novel.

I made the right decision publishing with The Book Guild. My novel The Loneliness Trap had a beautiful look, with a stylish cover and page design. I was also happy to have media coverage on the BBC. My book has sold better than I expected. I would be happy to publish my next book with them.

This company is a Vanity Press. It makes it's money from authors not from selling their books. I know someone who submitted a manuscript to them. The flattery was layed on with a trowel, and they were assured that by working with them 'in partnership' the book had a good chance of being a commercial success. It went nowhere.

When my previous publisher decided to stop publishing fiction I was in real despair! But then I made contact with the Book Guild and my experience of publishing with them has been all I could wish for. Everyone I have dealt with at the Book Guild has been responsive friendly and supportive, and also very patient. I needed my second novel, Fortune’s Price, closely to resemble my first and the cover designer at the Book Guild really did a great job in achieving this. The editorial process went as smoothly as possible for a historical novel with lots of strange names, titles etc. and marketing support has been consistent. I have much appreciated the transparency of the process, and I would have no hesitation in recommending The Book Guild to other writers. I hope to be able to work with them again.

I published my debut children's novel, The White Phoenix, with the Book Guild in a partnership publishing model in 2020, and I have been extremely happy with the experience, including the quality of the product, the professionalism and responsiveness of the staff, and the overall service.
I am a former book editor so was very concerned that the finished product should look good, and it really does - well designed, lovely paper and a striking jacket. I was also thrilled with the time-scale in which they published it. I'd already had the MS professionally edited while I was in the process of submitting to publishers and agents, so that probably helped, but nevertheless I was so impressed and grateful that their whole process was so streamlined, efficient and thorough. (And enjoyable and exciting for me!)
Something you don't think much about before you are published is distribution, but, apart from a blip right at the beginning when the book needed reprinting much more quickly than anyone had imagined, the ease with which my book has been available through all bookshops and online stores has been a huge plus, and they have always contacted me to discuss a reprint when stocks are running low.
As my book has happily kept selling (it's a children's book, so I've worked hard to publicise it in schools), the Book Guild have been happy to keep it in stock.
The initial marketing was great - as someone else has commented, pro-active marketing and publicity is only for a limited period, but that is completely standard among all publishing houses, and if you find ways to publicise the book yourself later, then the Book Guild are very supportive and will absolutely help you do that.
The staff, as well as being very friendly, are very efficient and - crucially - responsive to emails, something that is not a given in the publishing industry. They take the time to reassure you and explain things to you.
The financial picture will be different for every book, of course, and you have to decide if the numbers work for you, but if they do, I would absolutely and whole-heartedly recommend publishing with The Book Guild.

Are the Book Guild proud to publish vanity projects as long as they get their £4000? Such as Ian J Hey's No Lift No Stairs? Did you read it before publishing it? I doubt it.. What a load of old tosh yet you allowed it. Not paid for by the author of course but his partner at the expense of her grandaughter. An easy way for a conman to go around calling himself a 'published author' and living off others in perpetuity. Disgraceful providing a platform for legitimising misappropriation of funds to the detriment of others. And all the tributes to the book on Amazon who strangely have the sane initials as other Book Guild £4000 authors. What a swindle

It's a huge thing when you write a book and then look around for a publisher. You're taking a massive leap of faith that you and your book will be in safe hands.
