Excellent service replacing damaged plants

I have ordered from Ashridge about 3 times now and returned because of the good quality plants and delivery. This 3rd time there were two boxes of lavender plants. In one some of the plants had clearly shifted and toppled over, presumably in transit, and broken stems to the base as a result. Whilst maybe better packing might have helped I suspect rough handling of boxes would account for it. I sent photos of the plants requesting replacements and within half an hour I had a reply apologising and saying that replacements would be sent. They arrived in good time and condition. That was a problem quickly resolved and in a friendly manner for which I am grateful and they have retained my trust and I would order from them again.

Great communication and quality plants!

I recently bought two clematis from Ashridge Nursery but didn’t see their delivery information. I was a bit disappointed when I saw they would deliver within the month!
I contacted them and asked if the order could be expedited and was delighted to hear that they would dispatch that day and the order would be delivered within 24hours. The communication was great and plants were of the highest quality when delivered as per tracking info. Very impressed and one very happy customer.

Guarantee is worthless!

Wanted to buy 2 good size trees to commemorate an uncle and aunt. Ashridge were sadly recommended as they gave a five year guarantee. The trees arrived around January last year looking unhappy but we planted and gave them time to establish. They started to show signs of being happier but this year one is clearly dead and the other is hanging on by its fingertips. I contacted Ashridge and asked for replacement under the 5 year guarantee.
Bad News! They tell me the 5 year guarantee doesn't apply to me any more as I unsubscribed to their monthly emails in March. Punishment for not wanting their missives! They claim receiving their monthly emails was part of the terms and conditions at the time but they have offered to sell me 2 more at wholesale prices!!!!!! Why on earth would I give them more money for more poor quality trees?
Talk about sharp practice! Be warned!

Thank you for your feedback. We made it very clear on our website that we offered a 5 year guarantee for our plants to customers who subscribe to our newsletter, and remained subscribed. We can see that you unsubscribed from our newsletter prior to contacting us about your trees so they are therefore not covered by our guarantee. We do ask you to contact us prior to planting if you have any concerns regarding the trees so as we can resolve any issues at that time. We are unable to find any contact from you letting us know that your dormant, bareroot trees looked unhappy on receipt and that you had concerns during their first growing season. Had you let us know of your concerns at the time we could have resolved the issue for you. We will be pleased to help now by offering replacement trees at a discounted price as discussed or alternatively investigate further if you are happy to supply us with the additional photographs as requested.

Excellent service and would recommend

Order a few different types of mint and dahlia tubers. What can I say they've all started growing and all the mint is currently thriving in the pots! Also great to see the dahlia tubers planted have all rooted and are growing too! Just placed a second order with them and I would definitely recommend!

Prompt delivery of Cosmos Purity

Thank you so much for the prompt delivery of my order for cosmos purity. They are now all in the 4 box beds I have in the middle of my garden.
As in previous years, your plants are always a joy to savour over the summer. Well done to your team for all their hard work in producing not just my plants, but a whole range of plants and trees. Thank you!

Our 6 Salvias arrived promptly and we…

Our 6 Salvias arrived promptly and we were delighted with their size and overall health. The only challenge was fighting off the bees as we were planting them out!
We are really pleased with the service and quality of the plants and will certainly look to buy again from Ashridge.

Lavender plants

I ordered 25 lavender plants in Feb 22. Website really talked themselves up about how their plants were the best etc etc and that I needed to wait until April or May if a particularly cold year. I contacted them end of April to ask about delivery they said May. I contacted them again mid May. They said sorry, they were going to ring me, but supplier had let them down and would i accept a different product. I sais yes, and 3 boxes arrived a few days later. 2 boxes were packaged adequately, although still too small for the plants. The last box had the plants squashed in and i think some had just been repotted in to bigger pots.
Really poor service.
Daily e mails about products.
Only reason I didnt put them in spam folder was because I still had to deal with them

TREAT CUSTOMERS BADLY

My mother, over 80, was given a gift voucher and when both myself and another family member tried to buy plants online from this company, unfortunately the website is not suitable for paying by gift vouchers. I was then involved in a lot of emails back and forth because they will not deal with customers by phone, there is no number to call.
The bigger issue was on receiving the overpriced clematis bijou that cost £33.96, £9.50 of this to deliver the plant.....apparently this is to ensure the courier delivers within 24 hours. The plant was delivered upside down, in a box that was far too big for it. I took photos and sent them to the company.....
My complaint received a patronising and lengthy response from someone who thinks they are very clever, thanking me for being understanding and being willing to wait and watch for the plant to thrive. I am not of course understandable about this 'sharp practice ' and warn other potential purchasers to avoid this firm .....a lot of people are saying the same thing, we can't all be wrong or difficult customers.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry we weren't able to satisfy you on this occasion. I know that our customer services team have already been in touch with a detailed response and apology, but I'll just cover your points you've made above.

We do accept gift vouchers online and have many thousands of satisfied customers who have bought them as gifts for friends and family. Those people have enjoyed using their gift vouchers on our website. What we do make clear is that when you place your order, you quote the gift voucher reference number in the 'message for Ashridge Nurseries' section and we will adjust the pricing on your order accordingly. Payment for an order is not taken until we are ready to despatch, so pricing can easily be adjusted.

We have a very friendly and dedicated customer service team who took lots of time to respond to your issues, but unfortunately to no avail in this instance.

As I have seen from the correspondence, our team has apologised for the packing error and as we said to you, we have used this mistake to help train the packing team to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again.

I disagree with your comment that our correspondence to you was patronising. At all times the messaging was polite and apologetic. I hope in review you can see that.

I'm also not sure what you mean by 'sharp practice'? We are a family run business since 1949 and we pride ourselves on providing high quality plants and trees to many thousands of people each year. We price our plants competitively and are bound by the pricing structures of the courier companies. There is no sharp practice anywhere at Ashridge.

As with all companies, we sometimes get things wrong and unfortunately can't keep everyone happy. We do however have a 4.7 out of 5 top level review rating on Feefo, so we must be doing something right!

I'm truly sorry that we got things wrong for you in this instance. We tried to fix the issues and we apologise that it didn't work out. Sometimes you can try everything and it just doesn't work.

More than pleased

With all the negative feedback I decided to write mine.
Smooth transaction , yes I had to wait for part of my order but I understood why, some plants are better lifted and delivered during spring months when ordered in the winter.
Plants arrived in two batches absolutely fabulous plants and a guarantee to replace if they don’t take .You don’t get better than that from any nursery.
I can’t wait to order again from this company.

Gone Bad

As many other customers have found, something has gone dreadfully wrong with Ashridge just recently. I have spend hundreds of pounds with them over the last few years, but will not be using them again - their website simply isn't fit for purpoise, I am no longer able to log in and check orders, and worst of all they no longer deign to accept phone calls from loyal customers. You can only email them to ask about your order, or anything else, and of course they never reply to this. I have emailed them several times and ... absolute silence. And yes, I have checked my spam box. Very sad, they used to be an excellent supplier of trees, but their customer service is now terrible. The fact that they have 48% ratings of just One Star on this website demonstrates how bad. AVOID. There are plenty of other great suppliers out there.

Waited ages for delivery of bare root…

Waited ages for delivery of bare root order. Have ordered from other websites and planted them in February/March and they are growing well.

However after chasing the blue spruce arrived, very small with a few needles. Planted it, watered it and it lost all its needles and was definitely dead. Emailed them and some time later they replied to say leave till end of June !! Dead stick in the middle of the lawn didn't look good, so bought one somewhere else and threw away the dead one.

From their monthly informative newsletter containing guidance for the coming weeks - written with a tremendous sense of humour! - to the clear and full details of the various plants and miscellany that they offer for sale - through to the most efficient way my order was handled, prepared and despatched, I have nothing but praise!

I ordered dahlia tubers on 23rd March…

I ordered dahlia tubers on 23rd March with delivery within 7 - 10 days or earlier. I'm still waiting and, like others, find the inability to communicate other than through a robot frustrating and inadequate customer service.

Very good quality

The quality of the plants have been very good.
They sent the wrong size sycamore trees in one of my orders which I informed them off, their customer service was excellent they apologised and replaced the trees with quality specimens immediately, they kept me informed when they would arrive.
I would definitely recommend Ashridge nurseries

Did not deliver the whole order, resulting in high delivery charge and no empathy

Did not delivery the whole of the order, delayed and delayed, confusing emails, charged £15 for delivery of a £30 tree, as the order trees in the order were eventually not available, contacted customer services, didn't care. Not on my list to by from this supplier again, really very poor understanding or effort re customer service.

Something appears to have gone…

Something appears to have gone drastically wrong this season with supplying bareroot trees and hedging. I have waited months only to be told that some of the trees are unavailable (not leaving me enough time to place orders elsewhere) & have only now in mid Feb received a part order. As a professional gardener, ordering plants on clients' behalf, it is incredibly frustrating that I'm unable to phone the nursery to find out what is going on. The range of trees supposedly available is excellent but sadly after using Ashridge for many years, I feel compelled to take my business elsewhere.

I am impressed by this company

I am impressed by this company. They have a fantastic grasp of fundamental capitalist ideals; a classic model indeed: lure and secure customer with an all singing and dancing website promising the world. Once payment is secured ignore customer to the extent that they send an ever so slightly concerned missive to customer services pondering whether company is even legitimate. Enlist the services of a third party courier to deliver the goods (at their convenience)(and duly ignoring any orientation or handling instructions clearly marked on the packaging)( because at the end of the day who can say who’s at fault when the plants are transported upside down and smashed about…?). Finally - don’t worry if on the website you proclaim the amazing products you will bestow, simply put a big red stamp on the delivery docket saying ‘sorry, we couldn’t fulfill your order’ and that’s just fine.
Dear Ashbridge, please try to display some duty of care towards the plant world you claim to represent and kindly retract those clawing green fingers that have ‘I promise to pay the bearer’ so proudly home-tattooed across them.
I look forward to your response, which I have no doubt will gently assure me that I am overreacting and that you are trying really hard and really no one is really to blame and that one day really there will be world peace.
