I used Arbtech to conduct an Ecological assessment and plan to assist my planning permission which I was granted.
Booking was easy and the consultant arrived on time and report promptly followed.
Recently I have had the follow up for Habitat managing Monitoring (HMMP). This again was easy to book and the consultant Jamie Lee arrived promptly as arranged. This was a very positive visit with lots of advice and encouragement and praise for the project.
My detailed report arrived a few days later.
Jamie Lee was polite, professional and answered all my questions.

I booked a bat assessment for my house. The process for booking was fine and the ecologist who came to assess the house was very polite and nice.

But on site he said he saw mammal holes in the garden which might be badgers but would check with his manager, and most likely would need a further survey followed by a camera survey of the suspected badgers holes. In a central london garden.

Needless to say when the bat report came in it mentioned further investigation of the suspected badger holes. The quote for the badger investigation was £5800 plus VAT.

I contacted another ecology company who came and had a look at the holes and said they were almost certainly not badger holes given the size and shape but because they were mentioned in the initial survey they would need to do the cameras unless we wanted to try and negotiate that with the council. They quoted £800 for the same job, and when I said I’d been quoted £5800 they immediately said “by Arbtech?, they always do this”.

Also I booked the quick survey which is opointless as it still took them over 2 weeks to deliver the actual report.

Avoid this company.

I booked a 'rapid' service, and after 5 days (even though the email confirmation stated I would hear within 48 hours) I had to chase them several times. I left messages to which nobody replied, and when I finally managed to speak to somebody 5 days after the booking form was completed, I was told that actually, I couldn't have the rapid service after all and somebody will be in touch.

So I've lost a week in which time I could've booked another team in, and they still haven't given me a date for the survey. I have a planning meeting this afternoon with the CEO amongst others, and now I'm going to look like a real lemon, when I could have been pursuing other companies to actually provide a date and timescale for the project.

I used Arbtech (Invoice: 98141) for a Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment for £1,306.80. The surveyor found zero physical evidence of bats (no droppings, no staining) during a 3-hour daytime visit. Despite this, Arbtech used it as an opportunity to hit me with an astronomical quote of £28,726.80 for Phase 2 surveys.
To show how predatory this pricing is, I hired an independent, fully qualified ecologist to do the exact same required Phase 2 work for £3,924 inc. VAT.
I sent a formal complaint under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requesting a reasonable 50% partial refund because of this exploitative behavior. Arbtech has completely ignored my emails and past deadlines. Disgraceful bait-and-switch tactics. Avoid this company and get alternative quotes."

My experience with Arbtech has been extremely disappointing. Avoid this company!

I paid £580 for what I understood would be a comprehensive bat survey to support a planning application. After the PRA I was informed that a separate endoscope survey would be required at an additional cost of approximately £900 + VAT. This was not what was clearly written on the PRA advert or indeed the terms of booking form - ‘high powered torches and endoscopes WILL BE USED’. They will not, they will seek to charge you extra afterwards.

When I raised concerns about this and sought to dispute the charge through my credit card provider, Arbtech’s response was not to address my concerns in a constructive way, but instead to repeatedly threaten legal action, court proceedings, debt recovery and a potential CCJ, suggesting they would simply “issue a CCJ” . As a customer, I found this intimidating and wholly disproportionate, particularly given that I was simply exercising my right to challenge a payment for a service I believed had been misrepresented.

What made matters worse was the tone of the correspondence. Rather than acknowledging that there was a genuine disagreement about what had been sold and delivered, I was repeatedly told that I would face legal consequences if I continued with the dispute. The focus appeared to be on pressuring me into abandoning my complaint rather than resolving it.

I have never experienced a company react so aggressively to a customer raising a legitimate concern. Regardless of who is ultimately found to be right in the dispute process, customers should be able to question a service and pursue a chargeback without being subjected to repeated threats of litigation.

The way this matter has been handled has completely destroyed my confidence in the company. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise anyone considering Arbtech to read every document carefully, ensure they fully understand exactly what is and is not included in the service, and be prepared for a very confrontational response if any disagreement arises.

I very much look forward to seeing this matter through in Court, if that’s what Arbtech so wish, as they don’t have a leg to stand on, as per my legal advice. The only person who can’t see this is their ‘Finance Director’.

I have never dealt with such a rude and ignorant man, an employee who is supposed to be representing a company!
I’ve never known a company to provide such bad customer service, and not be prepared to put things right in regard to a genuine complaint from a customer.
This could have all been resolved with mutual agreement to re-attend and conduct the endoscope survey free of charge as per their terms, but I have had to go to an alternative firm and pay another fee.

Not a good way to run a business.

16/06/26 - In response to your reply:
A endoscope could not be used because your ecologist was ONLY LEVEL 1 qualified, so she couldn’t use an endoscope even if she wanted to and saw it ‘appropriate’!
Perhaps if you would like to give me a call, we can discuss the matter and come to an agreement. I doubt you will though given your customer service thus far.
I also don’t know how you can say you provided the survey ‘as described’ when I’ve sent you your advert in black and white that says ENDOSCOPES WILL BE USED!!!!!

Your further reply is an invalid argument.
Your ecologist was not suitably trained/licensed to use an endoscope. For all she knew in the void could have been expanding foam, for example.
I’ve since had an endoscope survey done by another firm. Took 5 minutes. The boards were removed at the same time as the survey. The suitably trained level 2 ecologist also said it should have been done during the PRA.

Arbtech have emailed again dated 29/06/26 - from the finance director following successful chargeback claim, arbitrated by VISA who have seen evidence from both sides.
This finance director has accused me of fraud, threatening to send my case to their solicitors immediately with interest, claiming they are now contacting the LPA to withdraw the report and accusing me of copyright should I use the report.
Their finance director has gotten himself so upset and taken this personally. He must be on commission, that is the only reason I can think of that would make him behave the way he has, in such an unprofessional way towards a customer. This company do not care about their customers - do not even consider using them.

The whole experience with Arbtech was smooth from start to finish, they were friendly, very helpful and informative .

I recently had a very disappointing experience with Arbtech. What should have been a straightforward interaction became unnecessarily stressful due to consistently poor communication. I found myself repeatedly chasing basic information that should have been clear from the outset.

I even highlighted an error on their website where they incorrectly referenced NPPF wording under the section “Why do I need an ecologist?”. It cites NPPF p.174–188, yet the NPPF only contains 82 pages. Despite pointing this out, I was met with dismissiveness rather than accountability.

By the end of the process, I was left with the strong impression that my time and concerns weren’t taken seriously. The overall attitude felt inflexible and overly self-assured, which made the experience even more frustrating. There was also a noticeable push toward upselling at every stage, which did not inspire confidence.

Based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable returning, nor would I recommend Arbtech services.

I have contacted this company twice for 2 surveys, both times they said we will be in contact to move forward, both times they haven’t responded to move forward.
So much for it being a highly rated company!

Understanding the need of the project and suggesting viable solutions.

It started well, they were responsive and did initial survey relatively quickly. Ended up having to do multiple additional surveys which they came out to do as requested.
It all went wrong a few months later when we needed the report to be updated to support a new planning application. They just didnt respond to the architects contact attempts. It took them over a month to respond by which time we were approaching the end of the year so were told to expect updated report in the new year. This was eventually completed in the new year (looks to me like a few lines were reworded - so not a major rewrite). Then we were told the report would be released upon payment. Even after payment it took another week to actually send the report. Overall the poor communication added around 1.5 months to our project which is disappointing and costly.

Arbetch were really competitive on price and provide a very quick turn around on reports.
I was most impressed by the communication I was able to have with the consultant as the report was being produced. Charlie Radiven was very helpful in helping me make decisions upon my planning progress as well as pre-construction decisions - thank you.
